To think the amount of people we know who have died or are dying from CV is proportionately high?

Between DP and I, we know 3 people who have died and one who is very likely to due in the next 24 hours from/with Covid-19. We live in Yorkshire.

My old hairdresser who was 38 Sad DP's workmates husband who was a 60 year old GP (she is a nurse) and my workmates Mum who was in her 80's and lived in a care home but was very well on mothers day. My sisters FIL has early onset alzheimer's and is 58, currently in hospital but they had to complete a DNR for him this morning and they are refusing to admit him to critical care or for ventilation.

DP thinks this is probably an average amount that most people will see in this pandemic (he is frontline NHS so quite fatalistic) whereas I didn't think we would know this many people who would die, in what is essentially a month long period.

AIBU to think this is quite high or are you all seeing similar? It is very much adding to my long list of worries.

I don’t know anyone in person, but CEO of my company said 12 employees across UK and US died of it.

HRH2020 · 20/04/2020 06:05

Elderly relative caught it in hospital and died.

I work for nhs and about 16 colleagues have had symptoms and felt unwell.

Me,DP and ds all had symptoms as did the babysitter.

(Premise: We all know statistics are unreliable and in some cases detrimental to the truth but I do trust the Italian figures.)
According to the official statistics my Province has a 0.2% tested positive rate. That means I need to know 500 people in the area before one of them has been tested positive. There’s a BBC website that gives UK figures according to post code but with the current level of testing it’s basically useless...

Sgtmajormummy · 20/04/2020 08:02

My Province has a population lower than 320,000 if that helps.

I know one person who list his life to it, late 70s. He didn't have the obvious symptoms, just sickness and nausea until he was in hospital. His wife had had the same symptoms a few days before, so chances are she had it.

A friend had it, early 50s, and was in hospital for a week.

I know two others who had a high temp and/ircough, but not confirmed cases.

YoYoYumYum · 20/04/2020 08:08

Zone 2 London. Don't know anyone personally who's had it much less died from it.

FromZeroToHero · 20/04/2020 08:10

Dont know anyone who has it or died of it!

Lady1576 · 20/04/2020 08:12

I don’t know anyone who has definitely had it. My brother lives in London and two of his friends have had it. His wife was tested for it (pregnant) but test was negative. For some reason they aren’t sure about the validity of that test...

Frouby · 20/04/2020 08:20

My fil died from it last week.

His 75 year old partner hasn't had it, or if she has, had no symptoms.

Dhs workmates sister also had it.

And am pretty sure dh had it. He's still coughing 3 weeks later. Never had a temperature but a bad cough for 3 weeks. He's calling the doctors later to see if he needs ABs. His symptoms tie in with when his dad would have had it and dh spent approximately 20 mins with him, just before lockdown. So 1 death from confirmed CV, 1 case (also confirmed by hospital), 1 suspected case.

Known loads of people test negative. One positive and recovered quickly despite serious underlying conditions.

Scruffyoak · 20/04/2020 08:43

I don't know anyone who has had it or died from it. Hope that's how it stays :(

CookieBlue · 20/04/2020 09:12

South East here and a lovely colleague has very sadly passed away. Two friends have also lost grandparents.

BMW6 · 20/04/2020 09:23

Odd isn't it. I have 5 siblings all in different locations in England. None of us know anyone who has had it for sure (not tested) and certainly none who have died.

Baaaahhhhh · 20/04/2020 17:01

It's actually surprising how many know of deaths, but actually not surprising for those who don't. With only 0.26 deaths per 1,000, it is actually a very small number of people in total population terms.

Littlemissdaredevil · 20/04/2020 17:10

I know one person who’s most likely had it but her trust wouldn’t test her. She’s a paramedic so had been exposed to lots of people who had it. Otherwise I don’t know anyone who’s has it.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/04/2020 18:00

My friend's mother in law died on Friday.

I found out today that there have been 8 deaths in the care home at the other end of the main street where I live.

It is feeling very close, suddenly. Live in suburb of North West city.

chocolicious · 20/04/2020 19:25

My friend's husband tested positive for Covid 19 whilst he was in hospital for another illness. I don't know anyone who has died.

Realitea · 22/04/2020 10:57

I now know five who have died Sad
I’m in the south west, where cases are supposed to be low!

kingis · 22/04/2020 11:36

I don't personally know anybody who has had it. Friend of a friend had illness after coming back from Lombardy before lockdown. She called 111 but they didn't test her then.

Notgoingouttoday · 22/04/2020 11:58

I'm in the South East. A neighbour died prior to lockdown and a young relative with no underlying issues has recently been hospitalised and confirmed positive. I think I had it early on but not tested as I recovered at home, although it took weeks to recover. I know a few others who think they have had it too. We all have indirect connections (through shared schools and local facilities) to a few early confirmed cases so quite possible.
