To think the amount of people we know who have died or are dying from CV is proportionately high?

Between DP and I, we know 3 people who have died and one who is very likely to due in the next 24 hours from/with Covid-19. We live in Yorkshire.

My old hairdresser who was 38 Sad DP's workmates husband who was a 60 year old GP (she is a nurse) and my workmates Mum who was in her 80's and lived in a care home but was very well on mothers day. My sisters FIL has early onset alzheimer's and is 58, currently in hospital but they had to complete a DNR for him this morning and they are refusing to admit him to critical care or for ventilation.

DP thinks this is probably an average amount that most people will see in this pandemic (he is frontline NHS so quite fatalistic) whereas I didn't think we would know this many people who would die, in what is essentially a month long period.

AIBU to think this is quite high or are you all seeing similar? It is very much adding to my long list of worries.

I know a lot of people who work in the NHS through my job, so I know quite a few people who have tested positive. None seriously ill last I heard, but it's worrying.

Devlesko · 19/04/2020 18:37

A midwife who was on duty when my dd has died.
We have an increase in Greater Manchester, atm.
I'm beginning to hear of more cases of people I know losing friends and family.
This has practically been over night, that's how quickly it can change.
When this thread first started I'd heard of one person.
Even though I only know of them, when you see their names in print/on a screen it does bring it home to you.

Stellamboscha · 19/04/2020 18:46

I live in London and know many people who have had it (including me) with varying degrees of severity (mostly mild) and no-be who had been hospitalised, let alone died.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/04/2020 18:51

I know one person who has died from it. Confirmed case, they were in their 60s, no underlying conditions.

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/04/2020 18:53

I know 3, only one personally, my dad’s great aunt who was 94 and died in a care home. I know more who have had it or assume they have based on the symptoms. West Yorkshire.

Mummadeeze · 19/04/2020 18:57

I have two different friends whose uncles have died from it. One was very old but not ill and the other lives in Italy. Another friend’s Mother passed away a few days ago, she was in a care home with Alzheimer’s, am not 100% sure whether hers was Covid related but I think it may have been. I know lots of people who have had it more mildly including myself. I don’t think sadly that does sound disproportionately high.

ItsNotEasyIsIt · 19/04/2020 19:07

I don't know anyobdy who has it, has had it or died from it, North West of England. My ex works in a large supermarket in Ireland and also does not know anyone.

Popuppippa · 19/04/2020 19:09

I know several people who have had it (London) and I think I have had it, but earlier in the year.

I know two people who have died - my beloved Father-in-Law (78) and the lady who rented my Mum's house who died far too young (56). I think when I return to work I will hear of more.

I do think you know of a higher than average number of people who have died though OP.

PorpoisefullyObtuse · 19/04/2020 19:34

I know no one who has had it but can I just mention I hate all this underlying health condition stuff. I’m early forties, slim, eat well and pretty fit. I have a minor heart condition. It doesn’t stop me walking miles, doing workout DVDs daily, being a bloody good mum, wife, daughter and employee. And yet if I die from this I feel like I will be a lesser person. A statistic. Really I shouldn’t have expected any more.

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 19/04/2020 20:11

It was the funeral on Friday of a dog walker lady that died of it. 2 neighbours also had it but have/ are recovering.

wantmorenow · 19/04/2020 20:31

BBC has an updated Corona virus map by region. Can't post link as on phone and can't figure out how to.

I'm in South Wales and know of 3 people who tested positive. All died. One was elderly but fit and healthy, one a nurse and one her husband. Both relatively young.

Wales is like a village, news travels fast.

dementedma · 19/04/2020 20:33

Central Scotland. don’t know anyone who has it. Long may that last

SusieOwl4 · 19/04/2020 20:53

I have just lost my auntie and uncle within a week . They were tested . One of my husbands colleagues has just lost his father .

I know two people I work with who were very ill with symptoms on and off for a month ( not tested )

My daughter had a colleague who has been very ill tested positive and that persons neighbour died of it .

maria860 · 19/04/2020 21:37

I'm in Birmingham high rate here I don't know anyone who's had it personally which is quite shocking really I work in Walsall but no one I work with has it either yet.

woodlandwalker · 19/04/2020 21:44

I'm in a London borough with a high rate of infection but only know one person who has had it and that was a mild case.

Realitea · 19/04/2020 22:12

I’m in Gloucestershire and know 4 people who have died, one friend was in ICU for three weeks but now home and getting better. Three friends who work in hospitals have had it. I think we must be a hotspot and I can only think it’s due to a rather large sporting event that happened not too long ago.

Mrhodgeymaheg · 19/04/2020 22:32

The only person I know who has tested positive is a family member in their 50's who has sadly died. They had underlying health conditions and picked it up while in hospital, but I am still in shock and struggling to get my head around it as they were so young and died way before their time.

I am in a place where cases are quite low, which is surprising as the area I live had a fair number of cases early on and I thought the numbers would be much higher.

I have come to the conclusion that most countries are just putting out the numbers that they want now. Each country has just done their own thing, the reporting has been a total mess and we will never know the true number of deaths.

PerspicaciaTick · 19/04/2020 22:39

We have a friend who lost her adult son and her husband last week. Her son had tested positive but her husband died too quickly after being admitted to hospital to be tested.

40somethingJBJ · 19/04/2020 22:55

I’m East Midlands and only know of one person who’s been confirmed as having it - my 62yo neighbour who has sadly died. A lot of people have had some of the symptoms, but I know of nobody else personally who has been really ill.

Tumbleweed101 · 19/04/2020 23:17

I don't know anyone whose had it (aside from suspecting it could be it after being a bit poorly). It still seems a bit surreal to me really and simply a news story rather than something that could cause a problem directly. I guess that is dangerous because if it does hit close to home I won't be mentally prepared.

bathsh3ba · 19/04/2020 23:22

I know one person who died with it (in her 80s, had terminal cancer so unclear if the cancer or COVID19 killed her but she tested positive before she died) and I know of one person who has it and has recovered (dad of a friend, 80s, pre-existing heart condition). I live in the SW, so a low risk area.

Miriel · 19/04/2020 23:36

I'm in London. One elderly relative of mine has it - she was very ill in hospital for a while but seems to be past the worst and recovering now. I know plenty of people with suspected mild cases, although of course some might be just a regular cough or cold. I don't personally know anyone who has died, but several people I know have told me about deaths in their social circles.

Madein1995 · 19/04/2020 23:49

I'm west mids and know no one who's died thankfully. A work colleagues friends uncle has passed away and a friends brothers boss' father has died. The latter was an elderly gent with underlying health issues. The former was a man in his 40s with breathing issues. So sad.

peoplepleaser1 · 19/04/2020 23:52

I'm in east Anglia. I know 8 people who have had it, two have sadly died.

Blueberry2020 · 19/04/2020 23:59

I know of three family friends who dyed with it/from it. One was in his 60s, the other two older. I know someone else whose grandfather died of it.

Someone posted on a local Facebook page their month long account of having it in which one member of the family has been in intensive care for three week’s children, one other had mild to moderate but not very nice symptoms, another (child) had very mild symptoms and another child had no symptoms.
