To think the amount of people we know who have died or are dying from CV is proportionately high?

Between DP and I, we know 3 people who have died and one who is very likely to due in the next 24 hours from/with Covid-19. We live in Yorkshire.

My old hairdresser who was 38 Sad DP's workmates husband who was a 60 year old GP (she is a nurse) and my workmates Mum who was in her 80's and lived in a care home but was very well on mothers day. My sisters FIL has early onset alzheimer's and is 58, currently in hospital but they had to complete a DNR for him this morning and they are refusing to admit him to critical care or for ventilation.

DP thinks this is probably an average amount that most people will see in this pandemic (he is frontline NHS so quite fatalistic) whereas I didn't think we would know this many people who would die, in what is essentially a month long period.

AIBU to think this is quite high or are you all seeing similar? It is very much adding to my long list of worries.

I know no one who has had it, never mind died,

a friend of a friend of my mother may have it.

Iooselipssinkships · 16/04/2020 17:45

Just through people... Example my Mum's manager's sibling.
From Yawkshire too, Leeds to be exact. I think Yorkshire and Humber have been one of the harder hit places after London and Midlands?

Eireni · 16/04/2020 17:47

Outer north London, I know of 5 deaths (clients through work, colleagues family member, partners family friend), lots of people who have had symptoms/family members had symptoms, a few who were in hospital but getting better. I’m as sure as you can be without testing that I had it. One of the people I know who died was at home, untested but consistent symptoms, so won’t be in official figures.

I think distribution of infection is far from even and more densely populated places like London we probably have a lot more community cases that elsewhere.

From about 6 weeks ago I remember thinking we’re all probably going to know people who die from this. Now it’s happening I don’t feel shocked each time I hear of someone but that doesn’t make it any less horrific.

Sereneren · 16/04/2020 17:47

I know of 2 people who have had it. Both tested. The first one is recovering now and the 2nd one who is a nurse is really Ill with it and is now in hospital.

bobstersmum · 16/04/2020 17:48

Op sorry for the maybe insensitive question but did your hairdresser have any underlying illness?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/04/2020 17:48

I know one person who has died from it. He was over 70.

My mum has very likely had a moderate version and she's just starting to feel better after 11 days.

cologne4711 · 16/04/2020 17:49

I only know one person who may have had it, and follow 2-3 people on Twitter who have had it, but I don't know them personally. The people I follow on Twitter appear to have had it pretty badly, one in particular, though none have been into hospital. Also someone in a running group I am a member of, but don't know personally, has had it, and said she was now well "but not without help from Worthing hospital". She was out running today though.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/04/2020 17:50

Oh and a distant relative of mine has had it confirmed. She is in her 30s, recovered fine. Both she and my mum are NHS workers which is where they likely caught it.

hopefulhalf · 16/04/2020 17:51

I know or know about 8 people who have probrably had it (none tested) also 60% sure I've had it. None hospitalised. 3 live in New York, 1 doesn't but became symptomatic on their return from New York, 2 in London, 1 in Bristol , 1 I'm not sure.....

CCaK · 16/04/2020 17:51

I'm near Cambridge and don't know anyone at all who has knowingly had it.

VerbenaGirl · 16/04/2020 17:51

The father of an old primary school classmate of my daughter, the uncle of one of her current classmates at secondary school and the coach from a local netball team that a good friend of hers plays for. All so very very sad. We are in Hertfordshire.

longcoffee · 16/04/2020 17:51

I said the same thing to DH the other day. Directly we know three people who have died, and another three who are friends of friends.

Spread across Yorkshire and the southeast, ranging from mid-30s to 80s.

Batqueen · 16/04/2020 17:52

It hasn’t touched anyone close to me but lots of third hand contact.

Colleagues relatives, colleagues partners relatives, companies we work with have lost employees. That sort of thing.

Lots of suspected cases (nothing too serious) in my immediate family and friend group who have had contact with confirmed cases. I know a lot of NHS staff and live in London.

Rockbird · 16/04/2020 17:52

Know half a dozen people who have/had it. And I know of two people who have died although I only vaguely knew then.

Rockbird · 16/04/2020 17:52

*them

GreenPop · 16/04/2020 17:52

I know 3 that have had it. 2 sadly died and 1 has recovered and is home from hospital now.

Paddingtonthebear · 16/04/2020 17:52

Sorry to hear that, it does seem like a very high number. I am on south coast and don’t know anyone who has even had it

hopefulhalf · 16/04/2020 17:52

In the South East

Aryaneedle · 16/04/2020 17:53

Bobster no my old hairdresser didn't have any underlying health conditions.

There is definitely a cluster where we live.

Ladyglitterfairydust · 16/04/2020 17:53

I know of 4 people who have had it, 2 of those had to go to hospital. Don’t know anyone who has died though, thankfully.

Northernsoullover · 16/04/2020 17:53

My SILs grandmother died of it but in Spain. My friend who is a nurse tested negative but other than that I don't know anyone with it. I am most definitely not complacent about it though.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/04/2020 17:53

Looking at the regional data or is hardly surprising that I don't know of anyone who has has it, let alone died of it

Yet we mostly do as we are told and act as though everyone we see actually has it.

So, to answer your question, it entirely depends on where you live!

SwedishK · 16/04/2020 17:56

I know quite a few (maybe 5 or 6) who's had it but not been tested, one of them died (he was tested).

daisypond · 16/04/2020 17:57

I’m in inner London and don’t know anyone who has had it, let alone died of it, here. I know people who have had it but not died in other parts of the country, though - Scotland, Midlands and Shropshire.

1forsorrow · 16/04/2020 17:57

I have an elderly relative with it (in her late 80s) and one of my kids has a friend with it, she is in her 30s and seems to have it mildly fingers crossed.
