A thread for people with CV19 symptoms that have lasted for more than a couple of weeks.

First thread here

(Called 40+ to keep a rough tab on when the first symptoms started being reported on MN).

OP posts:
Egghead68 · 18/04/2020 09:46

@Linus72 I find oatcakes helpful for GERD symptoms and, bizarrely, single grapes.

@fedupofbed I have used steaming and spoons of honey for my throat too.

onlinelinda · 18/04/2020 10:01

I think milk based low fat products are ok for gerd symptoms. I had a humdinger of a gallstones attack last night, a bd went to bed early with it, but I can't blame Coronavirus. I'll have to check the fat levels more carefully in my diet.

Scampersaur · 18/04/2020 10:05

Hi, my 11 year old is now on day 33. The last two weeks have felt worse emotionally (for me) than the early days when I presumed he would quickly recover. Although the breathlessness around day ten was the scariest. He’s been very thoroughly checked over and the doctors said his symptoms now are likely to be post viral. He looks very grey, is very low energy, has constant headache and abdominal pain and now strange feelings in his skin. First he described it as a tickling electrical feeling in his hands, then yesterday he felt like something was crawling over his back. This morning he’s had a strange feeling in his face. I can’t believe he’s been so unwell so long, he is normally so enthusiastic and loves sports and school. I’ve been telling him that at least he’s not missing out on things as everyone else has been on lockdown since a few days after his symptoms started.
Anyway, it’s a real relief to hear that some of you are now getting better. It’s helping me to squash the fear of a long post viral illness.

Dorual · 18/04/2020 10:05

@Linus1972 Gaviscon Advance before bed. Doubled my Lansoprazole dose. Not eating before bed.

Bornlazy · 18/04/2020 10:10

Hello everyone thought I’d update you on my situation - day 36 for me. I posted last week saying I had had another dip and was worried about going back to work, but was trying to build my strength up by going for short walks. I kept at the walks and on Thursday I went back and it was ok. First day back I was pretty knackered so I was dreading yesterday ( I work 2 days a week 12 hour shifts) but I actually had a good day. Being able to have face to face human interaction is such a boost to your spirits and I think that this is a big factor in why this virus hits people so hard mentally. Being able to have a laugh and chat with my work friends was just amazing.

Anyway I know that most of you are still a long way away from where I am (to be honest right up until a few days ago I thought I was too) but I just wanted to post to let you know that it does get better.

longshot · 18/04/2020 10:11

@Linus1972 i am coughing sort of clear white stuff but only first thing and not a lot. It looks too healthy to be from dead cells though?!

DH (recovered and never that unwell at all) coughed up some gross brown stuff after a run and a bike ride. That DID look like dead cells!! He never even had chest pain.

Gunner30 · 18/04/2020 10:25

@WorriesomeDad my day 1 symptoms were shortness of breath, so my 36 days started then, my symptoms got better on day 5 and 6 and then got hit with fatigues chest pains (suspected viral pneumonia) and a kidney infection. GP prescribed antibiotics for these and started to feel better (except fatigue), then the sore throat hit and palpitations/chest pains. That was around day 23, felt terrible for a week, but the doc gave my another round of antibiotics to fight of a secondary infection in the lungs and to help with the throat. The last 5 days have seen gradual improvement coughing up mucus for the first few days, so hopefully you are on a similar path. Key for me of rest, hot liquids and steamy showers to help with the cough. Hope that helps.

Gunner30 · 18/04/2020 10:33

Glad you're feeling better @bornlazy. We've been on a similar time-frame , so pleased that you're recovering too.

It has been really helpful for me sharing progress good and bad, so i'll continue posting for the next week to track daily progress. Hopefully this will help others and i'm so grateful for all the support, I was starting to really struggle mentally and can't thank everyone enough.

Take care and hope you all have good days.

Tangledyarn · 18/04/2020 10:34

@bornlazy That's great news, really glad you are feeling so much better!

godhelpusall · 18/04/2020 10:36

@Scampersaur it's really awful when it's your child. Both mine have been ill for weeks- mainly abdominal and nausea but the old 2 days ok then 2 days not etc. I've had moments of real worry too. I'm back to the gp Monday if no sign of improvement.

@longshot, that sounds exactly the same as me re coughing clear white stuff in the morning. I'm hoping it's not a lung issue as so far I haven't had trouble with them other than burning sensations after walking up slopes. The cough has been the most persistent thing of my illness. Sometimes I think it is going and then I wake up the next day and it's worse.

@Dorual I've been taking Gaviscon Double Action although only one table-spoon after meals and at night, so I may up the dosage.

@Egghead68 thanks for the suggestion re grapes, I'll give it a go.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/04/2020 10:40

Coleo DH had vomiting and diarrhoea at the start and we researched and found yes they can be part of COVID in case that helps you

WorriesomeDad · 18/04/2020 10:41

@Scampersaur poor lad. As you’ll see from this thread that tends to be when marked improvement kicks in. Hope he’s feeling better soon.

Moodgie · 18/04/2020 10:42

Anyone feeling completely and utterly exhausted? Can’t do anything. Just looking for some reassurance really. I’m about day 43 and this is a third day of this and has not been like that before at all. I am holding on to the idea of it being postviral.

Gunner30 · 18/04/2020 10:47

@Coleoptera Yes, I had the stomach issues too and felt constipated and bloated. This seemed to cause the pains under my ribs and i had fatigue for around 3 weeks. I found movicol (small doses) helpful for the stomach, to help ease pressure on the digestive system (I had a bad appendix operation last year and don't think that helped with this issue, as i'm still recovering from that). The last 4/5 days have felt much better, stomach has gone pretty much back to normal and fatigue is improving day by day. Hope that helps

eyebrowsofinstagram · 18/04/2020 10:49

Thanks for article link @LetsBeSensible that matches my experience really closely as it was after about 7 days that it moved into my lungs and affected my breathing.

Don't know what to do about the 8 weeks thing though- I'm already 4 weeks in, I don't know if I actually won't be able to work for another 4 weeks. Right now doesn't seem too unrealistic.

Also wonder if I should be seen by a doctor at any point to assess lung damage? Although the question is what would they do about it?

I think I'll phone my GP on Monday and talk about it with her.

I'm 26 days today, not feeling horrendous but generally weak. So will once again rest most of the day.

Does anyone else find talking exhausting? I can manage 10 mins on the phone then either face full relapse or takes an hour to recover.

eyebrowsofinstagram · 18/04/2020 10:54

@Coleoptera sorry to hear about your symptoms. I wonder if your lungs are really inflamed and it's putting pressure on all your other organs?

This snippet refers to it very slightly, but thought it could help.

Will you phone to speak to an out of hours doctor?

Moodgie · 18/04/2020 11:05

@eyebrowsofinstagram Yes, talking absolutely exhausting. Like everything else at the moment for me.

mumto3littles · 18/04/2020 11:07

Hi, I am at 30+ and my symptoms have finally almost gone. My doctor friend suggested to wear face mask in house, open windows and wipe tables often because it is highly likely I had got secondary infection as my symptoms are on and off and suffered from chest pain for a long time. I followed her advise and started getting better a lot. Especially face mask helps me to avoid touch my face.

fedupofbed · 18/04/2020 11:40

@eyebrowsofinstagram thanks for including the Daily Express excerpt. I googled the whole article and found the list of symptoms included at the end quite uncanny. I posted earlier this morning about my problems waking up, which has been completely freaking me out, and lo and behold, 'inability to rise after sleeping' is a symptom. I'm not going mad! It also lists other less common symptoms such as red eyes.

godhelpusall · 18/04/2020 11:45

@fedupofbed me too! I was asking this morning about the weird waking up thing. I've had all those symptoms and more! It's been like a cross between hay fever, anxiety, mild gastro and a nasty cold.
A haynxiety gastrocold. 🤨 with added weirdness.

fedupofbed · 18/04/2020 11:54

Yes it's bonkers isn't it. I've often posted about the kindness and support on this thread, which is really helping me get through. But also the information and resources that have been shared have been invaluable.

TheWooisStrong · 18/04/2020 11:58

@WorriesomeDad I’ve actually woken up feeling OK. Still fatigued and coughing, but mentally much more alert.
I went for a lovely walk alone, back home after 40min and I feel much better for it.

Needsomegoodnews · 18/04/2020 12:05

@Coleoptera yes I’ve had digestive issues too (on off diarrhoea and occasional pain in stomach/pancreas region) and there was a science magazine article that highlighted evidence of major gastrointestinal, cardiac, neurological and vascular effects alongside pulmonary.
