Neighbour abusing vulnerable delivery slots - what to do?

Doeeys · 14/04/2020 12:26

Need advice on what I should do...since the lockdown began, my neighbour receives on average 3-4 large online deliveries from Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco, this usually occur on consecutive day's - this week she has had them Sunday (Sainsbury's), Monday (Tesco) and today (Asda). She is in her mid 40s and has asthma and has been classed vulnerable, however she often goes out during the week to do top up shops as I see her unloading shopping from her car. She has also contacted the local volunteer group to also get 3 large 6pints of milk when she only has herself and one 7yr old. What is concerning me is that there are really vulnerable and elderly people out there that can't even get one delivery slot and she has had 10plus deliveries since the lockdown and it appears she is abusing the system. I have a small 6mth old baby and I am still going out as I know there are people out there that are truly vulnerable and need these extra priority services. What are your views on this and what would you do?

she has several people held hostage that she needs to feed

This

BrieAndChilli · 14/04/2020 12:39

How many bags is it each time? If only a couple maybe she only has a tiny fridge and no freezer so she has to shop little and often?

Lumene · 14/04/2020 12:39

You can’t control her behaviour only yours. If you are concerned for those going without donate online to w food bank or volunteer to help locally with deliveries or phone calls

fezzesarecool · 14/04/2020 12:40

It’s actually starting to sound very strange that not only do you know her shopping habits but you know what is in each delivery

Surely when baby is woken from her nap you are dealing with her rather than staring out the window?

Ohdeariedear · 14/04/2020 12:40

It also makes me sad that I still can’t do the bold thing properly...🤣

Makegoodchoices · 14/04/2020 12:40

Did you dislike your neighbour before this? Or are you just spending all your energy hating her now?

Doeeys · 14/04/2020 12:41

I think the point is being missed that these delivery slots for normal people are very rare to get hold of. Therefore those that are taking slots should be considerate of others trying to get one too. The elderly and vulnerable can't even get a slot - how do they get their shopping if people abusing the system get 3 shops a week!

As someone genuinely vulnerable who uses and needs deliveries, I don’t find threads like these helpful at all - they just make me worry that people are spying on me too. Just stop it ok?

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 14/04/2020 12:41

YABU for being a nosey curtain twitcher.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 14/04/2020 12:41

Well yes she would take it into her house if she needs to sort it out to redistribute it.
Unless she is extremely vulnerable (asthma alone won't put her on that list) she won't be getting priority slots.

TW2013 · 14/04/2020 12:41

Maybe she couldn't get any deliveries for weeks and happened to get some so has been able to stock up now rather than rely on others to get her food. Maybe she has recently been paid so is able to buy food now rather than at the end of the month. Maybe she has developed symptoms over the weekend and is self isolating. Only Sainsburys out of those three are actually prioritising vulnerable groups so I am not sure who you would report to so try not to get too invested in it.

DownWhichOfLate · 14/04/2020 12:41

I think you are probably sleep deprived and bored. Have a think about all you have said. Is it more likely she is shopping for others or that she is eating All The Food? Hmm

smartiecake · 14/04/2020 12:41

The supermarkets are still offering slots to the general public. There are no restrictions on this. If she is lucky enough to get a general slot she is allowed to book it. She is not breaking any rules in doing this even if these shopping deliveries are all for herself. She isn't abusing any services and there is nothing you can do or should be thinking about doing. There are thousands of delivery slots to the general public every week from the supermarkets. They want peoples money and she is using those services. It does sound like she is being excessive but she isn't doing anything wrong

Salene · 14/04/2020 12:42

I think you need to not worry what others are doing, if you were my neighbour you might think the same of me... but I'm getting for another guy and his wife who have MS and aren't leaving the house. I'm also getting for my elderly mother. I sit up for hours trying to get spaces as they don't have the energy to do it, so I do shopping for them and deliver it too then, along with getting for my own family. I'm shopping for 3 households

No way she can eat that amount of food, i would mind your own business personally.

fezzesarecool · 14/04/2020 12:42

The vulnerable can get slots though, I’m on the list and have been offered priority slots so no idea where you are getting your information from

BarbaraofSeville · 14/04/2020 12:42

This is intriguing. If she indeed was having all these deliveries then how is she achieving it?

People report not being able to get delivery slots for love nor money and yet this woman is somehow getting one every other day on average, at least 10 in 3 weeks according to the OP.

Plus of course, what is she doing with all the food, given that the OP is claiming that each one is 'a large shop' and it's not being taken elsewhere. What would 2 people be doing to get through that much food in a couple of days?

Are they practising for some sort of competitive eating competition? Spending their days cooking and eating massive fry ups, Christmas Dinner sized feasts every day, Pizzas the size of cartwheels? You need to watch them more closely OP, see if there is any evidence of weight gain. Plus check their bins, to make sure there's no food waste going on.

Jollypolly999 · 14/04/2020 12:43

Stop being so nosey and mind your own business. you dont know what others are going through and all this curtain twitching really shows the bad in people.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 14/04/2020 12:43

This just shows the bloody system is not working though. My husband is on the vulnerable list and we can't get any slots, never mind from 3 or 4 supermarkets. You should have to choose one. Makes me angry.

smartiecake · 14/04/2020 12:43

The slots are not very rare. If you are online when they are released you may get one

DressingGownofDoom · 14/04/2020 12:44

Mind your own business.

smartiecake · 14/04/2020 12:44

Slots are released every day

thpock · 14/04/2020 12:44

The volunteer group will be easy to contact. So you could tell them about the situation without wasting too much of your own time. Then you'll have done your bit. I'd leave it after that for the sake of your own mental health.

LoveIsLovely · 14/04/2020 12:44

I've always wondered what it was like to live in East Germany and now I don't have to anymore.

fezzesarecool · 14/04/2020 12:45

chocolatesaltyballs22 They seem to be working down the list
My mum registered on the list before me and got offered slots and now my name came up around a week later so hopefully yours will be soon

AvoidingRealHumans · 14/04/2020 12:45

It has nothing to do with you and you can't do anything about it.
I would let it go.
