It’s good to see Boris is getting better. He said in his video message that he went through a critical 48 hours and it could have gone either way. Do you think the early intervention and oxygen helped save him? Would he likely have pulled through if he was treated like you or I and had to be turning blue or unable to finish his sentences before receiving hospital intervention?

Germany has better outcomes than we do because they are admitted to hospital sooner. I'm not sure any of us would have been admitted at the same stage as Boris
I'm not sure I believe he was as poorly as he is making out, discharged too quickly imo
Of course it's political. The tories are ideologically opposed to a public health service. They have deliberately underfunded it. They wasted time when we could have secured ventilators and PPE. Boris didn't follow their own guidelines re social distancing

Gronky · 12/04/2020 20:21

Hey up isn't his main residence No 10 10 minutes away and he's just gone to convalesce at Chequers which is over 40 miles. What does the guidance state?

No. 10 is more than a home and it joins on to the Cabinet Office. It would be a little like remaining at work because you have a bed in your office.

isadoradancing123 · 12/04/2020 20:29

He looks remarkably well considering he was so ill, however he did look very ill in the days before his admission

RapunzelinQuarantine · 12/04/2020 20:31

Someone seriously said “ Why does everything have to turn political” about a Prime Minister’s speech on the most urgent political issue of a generation.

RishiSunakFanClub · 12/04/2020 20:35

Typical Labour outpouring of hatred and bile. Decimated at the last election so need something to make them feel better - they've elected a new leader with the same policies as Corbyn, so will remain unelectable for the foreseeable future - I pity them.

vera99 · 12/04/2020 20:39

Boris voted to cap public sector workers' pay. As did Patel, Raab, Gove, Sunak, Grayling, Dorries, Hancock...don't need your pity but thanks anyway.

user1471448556 · 12/04/2020 20:40

Very glad he’s better. Hope he’s learnt something through his experience - how dangerous the ‘herd immunity’ strategy was, how immigrant workers are to be valued, how important it is to properly fund the NHS and stop privatising it by stealth, how he needs to honour his Brexit promise of £350m for NHS if he is determined to see that project through, how all those brave nurses and doctors need adequate PPE now and how they cannot be blamed for any lack of supply ... ever!

Exoffice · 12/04/2020 20:45

He's been amazing from start to finish

Eh?

The response from the government on the whole was and is shambolic. We have a much lower testing capacity, nowhere near enough PPE, less hospital beds than many other European countries, we admit to hospital far later than many other countries even though we know from China that early O2 treatment has far better outcomes than letting patients deteriorate.

As a result, we have the worse trajectory in Europe and lots of predications suggest that we will have the highest rates of death.

What on earth has been amazing about his and our government's response????

Speakeasy22 · 12/04/2020 20:51

I do believe that he held off going to hospital, just hoped that he would get better and that he was seriously ill when he was admitted. Of course he would be closely monitored. I'm glad he's going to Chequers to recover and wish that everyone wasn't so quick to jump in and criticise. No one - government or opposition - should put politics above basic humanity. Please don't try and make political capital out of someone's serious illness or the way they choose to recover.

Oxyiz · 12/04/2020 21:00

Don't be political ladies! Focus on being nice instead.

SentimentalKiller · 12/04/2020 22:29

Women be political. Being nice has never got us anywhere

PicsInRed · 12/04/2020 22:39

Are women allowed to be political AND a Tory?

Are women permitted the diversity of political opinion that men are expected to have?

MaxNormal · 12/04/2020 23:01

Someone seriously said “ Why does everything have to turn political” about a Prime Minister’s speech on the most urgent political issue of a generation.

It's fucking hilarious isn't it?

SentimentalKiller · 12/04/2020 23:07

And don't forget ladies should focus on being nice. Perhaps we should make tea for everyone, we wouldn't want to mess up our pretty little heads with politics

SentimentalKiller · 12/04/2020 23:07

I feel like we are back in the 1950s on this thread

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/04/2020 23:07

Don't be political ladies! Focus on being nice instead.

I presume this is meant sarcastically.

SentimentalKiller · 12/04/2020 23:10

God I hope so

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 12/04/2020 23:21

So if early o2 treatment leads to better outcomes surely that should be our focus rather than ventilators by which odds are at best 50 / 50 and probably not suited to anyone elderly or frail at all.

MaxNormal · 12/04/2020 23:23

Perhaps we should make tea for everyone, we wouldn't want to mess up our pretty little heads with politics

There's plenty of biscuits to serve the tea with Grin

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/04/2020 23:27

We have a shortage of O2 as well as PPE.

And of sedatives, inotropes and feeding pumps ....

Hermanhessescat · 13/04/2020 00:50

RishiSunakFanClub let’s be honest the only reason you got a stonking majority was because of the British public’s mindless obsession with getting Brexit done, the influence of the horrendously partisan British press mainly owned by non dom millionaires and the fact that the leader of the opposition was about as popular as pol pot to much of the electorate. It was certainly not because of the tories amazing stewardship of the economy. Seen the state of public services recently ?? Thought not ..am now expecting to be told how many billions they’ve ploughed in
