Boris’ latest message.

It’s good to see Boris is getting better. He said in his video message that he went through a critical 48 hours and it could have gone either way. Do you think the early intervention and oxygen helped save him? Would he likely have pulled through if he was treated like you or I and had to be turning blue or unable to finish his sentences before receiving hospital intervention?

I suspect there have been more posts complaining about others wishing Johnson ill than posts actually doing so.

Considering the blase way he told us all that lots of our loved ones are going to die....I feel he could have got a lot worse.
I'm grieving for all the key workers, nurses, doctors, porters, bus drivers who have died and possibly wouldn't have if this government had acted quicker and not put brexit plans ahead of pandemic plans.

Probably because the ill-wishers know how disgusting that would look and so just confine themselves to ill-spirited moaning instead...

You seem to have confused 'probably' and 'thing that would be convenient for me if true but that I've no way of proving'.

I don't understand what you mean by "I feel he could have got a lot worse", but he didn't appear blase to me.
IMO he was being honest about the situation as he saw it.
Perhaps he saved lives by saying this, making people aware of why we needed to follow all the restrictive guidelines.

Not Boris bashing, but I do find it a little odd that he has gone to his second home to convalesce. I thought we weren't allowed to do that?

It's all very well saying that 10 Downing Street is a place of work; he lives in the flat above No 11, which he was originally based when self-isolating. I very much doubt that there are loads of civil servants and others wandering in and out of private apartments. So why isn't he back there?

I doubt the decision was up to him. His advisors and Drs would have told him where he should go to recover.

Exactly the same as when you said “I suspect”, then Smile

Well, this sounds like a good excuse for anyone who has a second home and who had it, to go and decamp to a second home. Which seems a tad unfair to put pressure on the places which have a lot of second homes.

Of course he should go to chequers, he is the PM and like or loathe him, we need a strong leader atm and the alt is Raab, Gove or Patel !!!

I did allow myself a rye smile that the man most responsible for Brexit and wants a very strict immigration policy, credits his recovery, as he hovered at death's door, to Portuguese and Kiwi nurses....... neither of whom would be allowed into the UK after this coming December.

Report
Peregrina · 13/04/2020 13:37

Personally I wouldn't class him as a "strong leader."

I don't think the Tories lack talent, it's just that those who have it, weren't allowed to get near positions in Government.

You don’t seem to understand that neither Downing Street nor Chequers are either primary or secondary homes as the general public would understand the terms. They are government buildings, and presumably his doctors decided that the Prime Minister would recover better in the building that isn’t the main nerve centre of government. But by all means, continue the faux-naive carping!

And the reason for his mistress joining him there is? Or collecting him from Downing Street? In a car flanked by two members of staff - presumably with less than 2m between them?
Faux naivety?
Indeed.

I think he singled out these two deliberately, expecting people to have this reaction.
Then when asked about it he can explain that the proposed "points system" will ensure that nurses from all countries will be welcome to apply to work in the NHS.

No problem at all with Johnson going to Chequers.

He needs to rest and recuperate.

Likely the speech would have been written for him (DC working from home?) and all the political implications of what he said carefully considered.

And the porters, the cleaners, the HCA's, the admin assistants, the lab workers, the catering staff etc - they all played a part in his recovery.

Along with all the other key workers out there.

It's no good having nurses to treat you if they can't get you decent food because there is no one to pick the food in the fields or to drive the food to the suppliers etc

But I am sure he realises that now.

Yes of course. Do you think politicians haven't thought of that?

No Cendrillion, the exact opposite, because it would actually be doable to quantify my statement from the posts on here (though you seemed to agree with it anyway...) whereas your own contention is impossible to verify. Tut tut.

@PerditaProvokesEnmity that was a bit racist to assume none of the names sounded black or Asian. I've worked with a few 'Angels' from a black African background. Names like angel link back to the slave trade. He mentioned 'Angel' did he not?

Report
PerditaProvokesEnmity · 13/04/2020 15:44

No. It was not. Please do not make assumptions.

My point was that the two people singled out appeared to be ftom areas of the world the Tory government would feel least uncomfortable with.

And, in passing - not everything to do with black people requires a reference to the slave trade.

I'd have thought, not quite there. New Zealand, yes, white Commonwealth. Portugal - EU which apparently was the cause of all our problems.

@PerditaProvokesEnmity err... Names like 'precious' and 'Angel' factually are from the slave trade era. You pointed out he did not mention any 'black' people. I'm pointing out (to validate my point) that he actually probably did! Hmm
