Boris’ latest message.

It’s good to see Boris is getting better. He said in his video message that he went through a critical 48 hours and it could have gone either way. Do you think the early intervention and oxygen helped save him? Would he likely have pulled through if he was treated like you or I and had to be turning blue or unable to finish his sentences before receiving hospital intervention?

So rather than endless questions about ventilators, perhaps some questions could be asked about other oxygen treatment solutions

Although given the inability to provide PPE I suspect our government is also incapable of providing that

Aramox · 12/04/2020 16:30

No one’s suggesting nhs workers are at fault. But the delay in admissions seems increasingly worrying given the awful results from ventilators.

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/04/2020 16:31

There's a shortage of oxygen as well. Watford A&E recently closed for that reason.

Sparklingbrook · 12/04/2020 16:33

Another thread where you will need your MN Bingo card.

vera99 · 12/04/2020 16:33

toryandproud is just a Tory troll. Best ignored. If she's happy then good.

Lumene · 12/04/2020 16:36

I’m glad he’s better and wish him well.

I do agree about the questions as to the difference between a carefully watched PM who had a bed prepared for him days in advance of using it and a doctor on the end of the line vs the rest of us who have to be at our last gasp to get hospital support.

He looked really well yet is going to be recuperating at his second home watching TV.

Puzzled as to why they released the video of him in his suit making out business as usual.

Meanwhile thousands of citizens are less lucky and dying every day.

Otherrooms · 12/04/2020 16:42

Why does everything have to turn political.

Because we are talking about the PM and his ministers maybe?

toryandproud · 12/04/2020 16:42

I'm not revisiting 2009 again when Labour bankrupted the country, but at the last election there was virtually no difference in NHS spending plans, but of course the other Labour spending commitments and 4 day week would have ruined the country again.

That's all I've got to say of the matter - enjoy your raging in peace, lol

ThePlantsitter · 12/04/2020 16:44

Well, carry on playing your cello on the Titanic, Toryandproud, and enjoy.

Movinghouseatlast · 12/04/2020 16:45

My greatest wish of this period is that this lying power hungry idiot will change his mind on many issues, but mainly on his view that the NHS should be broken up.

I think what has happened in America may be a wake up call.

I think his own brush with death should be a wake up call.

Remember that Tory ideology is opposed to the state. It runs through everything they believe.

Boris himself believes nothing. He just believes in himself and power at any cost.

I think his latest speech was really good actually. It seemed to come from the heart. It made me hope that maybe his illness HAS made a difference.

LizzieSiddal · 12/04/2020 16:50

Right, I’ve been trying to keep off threads like this, but you can fuck right off with saying that NHS workers don’t treat people till they are turning blue and can’t finish their sentences. They are working their arses off to save as many lives as they can and for you to suggest otherwise is utterly vile.

Hear hear!!!!!

Do posters realise how utterly disgusting you post such lies?

For what it’s worth I know 3 people who’ve felt bad with this virus and they have all been told to go to hospital “as a precaution”.

Oxyiz · 12/04/2020 16:53

He will say anything that suits him and do anything that suits him. He's thoroughly contemptible and a brush with death doesn't sadly change that.

However I'm hoping that his desperation to be adored in the history books means he will invest hugely in the NHS.

And yes as prime minister he absolutely got preferential treatment, and probably if we could somehow hospitalise everyone very early and give them one to one nursing, a lot of lives would be saved. But we just can't. There isn't capacity. That's not the NHS's fault, it's the government's for systematically underfunding and doing stupid things like not joining the EU recently in a joint bid for PPE etc.

nuttymomma · 12/04/2020 16:53

I'm glad he's better but I don't understand how well he looks and sounds considering he was close to death just a few days ago. Can people really recover so quickly?

SquishySquirmy · 12/04/2020 16:53

It is to be expected that the PM of the country will receive closer medical attention whilst his symptoms are "mild" and that worsening symptoms are more likely to be spotted at the right time.
I do not think this is wrong.
I am glad Johnson has pulled through and that he got the right medical attention at the right time.

It is a fact that this illness, when severe, can can get very bad very quickly.
There are stories in the press where, sadly, people with suspected Covid have gone from "not serious enough for an ambulance" to "too late for an ambulance".
Countries who are still able to provide medical care for ALL Corona patients have very low death rates (Eg Singapore, where everyone who tests positive is admitted as s patient, and Germany who also identify and monitor people when their symptoms are still mild).
If I am ill at home, I do not have anyone monitoring my blood oxygen levels. I do not have anyone medically qualified assessing me except by phone if I am lucky.
It is not possible for the UK to provide medical care and monitoring to all those with worsening Corona symptoms. There are too many of us. Waiting until the illness becomes life threatening will mean waiting too late for many (I am particularly worried for those who either live alone or who live with very young children and no other adult).

Allowing the virus to rampage through our country before putting any controls in place means that not only are we at higher risk of contracting Covid, but that we are at higher risk of dying when we do (and that other conditions will go untreated).

I do not begrudge Johnson the treatment he received, I am glad he got it. I wish it were possible for everyone to receive the same close medical care early on but it isn't. As leader of the country Johnson's decisions have directly lead to this.

These things are all true. It is not wrong to point that out in my opinion.

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/04/2020 16:53

I'm not revisiting 2009 again when Labour bankrupted the country,

I think you'll find it was the banks. The biggest con ever was making private debt, public debt.

FamilyOfAliens · 12/04/2020 16:59

I'm not revisiting 2009 again when Labour bankrupted the country

And yet here you are, doing precisely that. Muppet.

midgebabe · 12/04/2020 17:00

I think you will find it was the British public who managed to convince all politicians that they would vote for people who would keep their taxes low , who wanted reassurance about a good handle on the economy, value for money etc etc.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/04/2020 17:05

YANBU op. I called 111. I was concerned. I spoke to a nurse, who then referred me on to a doctor (or similar). He basically told me I would need to be more breathless than I was, ie not coherent / gasping for breath. My friend (from talking to her myself) sounded at least as poorly as Boris on the Thursday before he went in. She spoke to 111 and then her Gp twice all in one day. She was told to be on high alert. But as long as she was coherent and could breathe enough to speak, she wouldn’t be admitted.

All of the people stating otherwise are unlikely to have been through what we went through, her even more than me. We both got antibiotics and I sent my dh to drop a bunch of stuff to help speed up the process.

toryandproud · 12/04/2020 17:06

you can argue all you like about 2009, I'll repeat my belief that Labour brought the country to the brink of bankruptcy, and by the way did more to privatise the NHS from 1997-2010 than any government in history, as well as riddle it with off-balance sheet appalling value for money PFI agreements.

I do note none of you have argued against my point that Boris Johnson already admitted and made the NHS a central plank of his vision to level up the country while Labour was proposing nationalising everything, spending more on free broadband than additional funding for the NHS and a ludicrous 4 day week. Hmm

Randomschoolworker19 · 12/04/2020 17:08

I thought it was a great speech and I'm so glad he is doing better.

We're in a war against a deadly virus. It doesn't care whether you're blue or red so let's stop the politics until after this is all done....

Boredsheep · 12/04/2020 17:09

He’s the PM. Of course he will be treated differently / with more caution. It’s silly to think otherwise.

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/04/2020 17:09

Labour didnt cause the housing market bubble. That started off in the US. It can be argued it partly happened because of lack of regulation. That lack of regulation would be worse under the Tories.
They have to have the NHS in the manifesto otherwise everyone would realise the £350 m a week to the NHS was bollocks.
There's been no sign of levelling up so far.

Mlou32 · 12/04/2020 17:11

Regardless of politics, I'm glad he's on the mend. Not everything needs to be politicised.

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/04/2020 17:11

We're not in a war. It's a virus. It doesn't have ears

We can criticise the government as they're approach has led to unnecessary deaths. It's more important than ever the government is held to account.

Jellycatspyjamas · 12/04/2020 17:11

I did like his “powered by love” line.

Except the NHS is powered by cold, hard cash which sentimentalism like this denies. He and his government have routinely undermined and underfunded the NHS, it needs proper investment, not easy platitudes.
