If I have symptoms can dh still go out for exercise/food?

Firstly, please be nice. I feel bloody awful, hard to breathe, everything hurts etc. Please don't call me stupid or selfish.

Secondly I need the actual advice/rules, not the MN opinion.

I have symptoms - cough, difficulty breathing, aching, exhausted, temp. So I am isolating in one bedroom. I have dh and 2 dc. And a dog. Are they still allowed to go out for one walk a day, obviously making sure social distancing (easy as never see anyone where we dog walk).

I thought they could (based on a friend who had to do it a few weeks ago). But then thought maybe I'd read different and now in confused.

I'm 99% sure the rules are that if you or anyone in your household has symptoms then you all need to self isolate, as you could have passed it to someone in your household and they don't yet have symptoms, but by going out they may unwittingly then pass it to someone else, and so on....

I really hope you feel better soon. Stay indoors and rest and try to have as little contact with DH and DC as poss. Stay safe xx

I believe you have to isolate for 7 days and they have to isolate for 14 in case their symptoms appear during that time

OK. Thanks. The dog is going to go mental! We have a garden, a small one. But she's 8 months and loves the sniffing. Oh well, she'll live

Yes you have to self isolate for 7 days or until your symptoms have gone. Anyone else in household has to say in for 14 days as it can take this long for symptoms to show.

Yes you isolate for 7 days or until symptoms are entirely gone if that's longer than 7. Other family members must isolate for 14 days from when your symptoms started but if they develop symptoms at any time they need to then follow the symptomatic advice so if they develop them on day 13 then at least another week in not longer if still unwell.

That letter has long gone to the recycling. I have actually been on gov.uk site but couldn't be sure.

No, you need to stay in for 7 days or until you have no temperature, whichever is longest. The rest of the household need to be in for 14 days unless they too get symptoms and then the 7 day/temperature rule applies.
I was sick the first week of lockdown, we had friends deliver shopping. I also isolated from the rest of my family, and no one else developed symptoms.

It used to say you can go out for exercise but they must have changed it. Now it says you can use your garden if you have one but otherwise stay indoors. Sorry op. I hope you feel better soon.

I heard a dog expert man on the radio who said if you have a dog it's important to play games with it at home if you can't take it out as much as you're used to. He said do things like hide dog toys for it to find and stuff like that - I don't know much about dogs so didn't really listen sorry. But I think he said to play "mental games" with it or something.

Yeah they are doing training and games with her. I'll ask if any friends might be able to walk her.

Do you have a local FB self isolation page or street FB page? Anyone who asks for help walking a dog on our get overwhelmed with offers - everyone wants a chance to go walk someone’s dog Grin

I thought that you could walk the dog, too.

Or you could ask someone else to walk the dog for you, that this was allowed. I am walking dog for someone who is shielding/disabled.

I'm sorry I don't know for sure, but I'd look only at govt websites & not trust MN to tell me.

This has some stuff to do with a dog indoors. It says you can get someone else, friend or a dog walker, to take the dog for walks if you're self isolating due to symptoms, but they need to be informed that you have symptoms and all guidelines have to be followed.

I wouldn't ask a friend to walk to dog. It's a risk for them to touch the dog or her lead etc.

If one of you has symptoms none of you cannot leave the house for 14 days.

Essential reasons (food, exercise, helping vulnerable or pharmacy) are only for those with no symptoms.

If your dh leaves the house he is almost certainly carrying/spreading the virus.

This^ We started self-isolation 8 days ago and checked/double checked and you could exercise outside then. NHS website definitely said it was OK. Now it appears you cannot!

No wonder people are confused!

Bloody hell, I have it (cough, slight fever, shortness of breath) but have still been out running. I know it sound mad but mine is very mild and actually the days I have been running my lungs have felt clearer and better than the days I have not.

OP has no evidence she has covid. In fact she almost certainly doesn't have it (most tests are still negative & that's people feeling bad enough to go to hospital).
It's all precautionary.

I'm supposed to use hand sanitiser twice (before going to the door each time) to protect the owner of the dog I walk.

@ChoporNot - you aren’t meant to stay in for your health, it’s to avoid infecting other people! Please don’t go out with symptoms - you could kill someone!

We just had this when I had symptoms of some kind of virus, then DD did and DS did. Those who have symptoms stay in for 7 days (unless you have a temperature). Those who dont its 14 days

Chopornot you really should not be running with mild symptoms FFS. Not only is that bad for your health (look at the italian marathon runner) but actually you are seriously spreading the virus. You have to self isolate with those kind of symptoms. Even if it isnt you are spreading some kind of virus

Do you have anyone that can shop for you.
Its hard but has to be done
