Why aren't people in their gardens or gazing out their window ?

What are they all doing?

I flit from being indoors to popping out to the garden to back indoors and nosing out the window. I can see many gardens from my house and no one is in theirs! Nor are they gazing out their windows.
Am I missing something? DH even said he was beginning to think we aren't allowed in our gardens as it's really odd round here.

(Yes I know I'm being nosey)

travelled over 11 miles to get my click & collect (massive shop to last fresh veg tonight hurray!) than unpack & clean & remove plastic off stuff sort packets into quarantine (dh quite vulnerable health wise) than went outside to check baby seeds & used bathwater to water garden pots (yes I know but I don't like water waste & we have water meter & pear tree was looking sick) than dh did tea

We sit and have lunch in the garden. The kids do crafts too outside on the craft table. Tomorrow we will have a picnic lunch in the garden.

SpokeTooSoon · 08/04/2020 20:35

You sound like my dad OP. He’s always clocking what the neighbours are up to.

“She leaves her washing out at night, it must be damp by morning.”

“I wonder why he’s going for his run so late in the day, he’s usually back before breakfast.”

“They’ve been out twice already today, maybe the second time was for shopping so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.”

“How much stuff so they need from Amazon?”

He’s a perfectly normal, non-demented, charming man with plenty to occupy him - but my god he’s a nosy bugger.

blossombabies · 08/04/2020 20:35

our neighbours are all young families and have been out all day in the sun :) same as us.

Itwasntme1 · 08/04/2020 20:36

I am stuck inside working while all my neighbours are mowing their lawns or operating power tools.

I need to go back to the office😊

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/04/2020 20:36

@Bercows I do the cat thing too 😹 “ooh sweetie look it’s the short legged tabby”.

ilovecakeandwine · 08/04/2020 20:38

You mean like this

Why aren't people in their gardens or gazing out their window ?
GrizzlebumsMum · 08/04/2020 20:42

I don’t have a garden. Our flat overlooks about 20 flats opposite, work is busier than it’s ever been before and I have a toddler to look after at the same time. Not much time for gazing at anything!

Straycatstrut · 08/04/2020 20:43

Pfff. My boys are out in the garden. I'm clearing up all their mess, stressing over my bills, planning for the next few minutes, hours.... and trying to keep myself sane.

I'd give anything for just an hour to myself daily to exercise without "MAMMYYYYY!!!"

Ilovemypantry · 08/04/2020 20:44

@Nomorewineever

I feel your frustration at trying to work from home surrounded by noisy unthinking neighbours.

I’m lucky, I’m retired and so don’t have to wfh but our next door neighbours are absolutely loving the lockdown. Both adults off work but being paid, 15 yr old DD off school but bf coming round most days. Mum spends all day sunbathing in the garden, DD has her music blaring and on Sunday they had a very smoky bbq and karaoke in the garden...lovely! I reckon they’ll be sorry when the lockdown is finished tbh.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 08/04/2020 20:44

Not sure why anyone is trying to educate the kids on 8th April - it's the Easter holiday!

OK, I'm working from home this week as a teacher because I would be in school for Key Worker children but I'm in an at risk group so showing solidarity with my team by working. Feeling very guilty.

We need to enjoy this lovely weather and those of us who can need to squeeze every single bit of enjoyment from it.

thatgingergirl · 08/04/2020 20:47

I have a wander round the garden sometime between 7 and 8 in the morning. I might put out/get in some washing later in the day. Can't actually see my neighbours, although I can hear them. Pretty quiet round me anyway.

Kuponut · 08/04/2020 20:47

Because my neighbours on either side are not practising social distancing in any way shape or form and our gardens are so small we can't easily keep our distance from them - I'm not really able to use more than a tiny strip down the centre of ours which is the path between the back garden and the shed and am captive in the house. They're always out in the garden so I can't be.

salemcat · 08/04/2020 20:49

Live on a farm, I see coos/calves & horses

NataliaOsipova · 08/04/2020 20:52

I hate sitting in the garden. So I never do.

Yesterdayforgotten · 08/04/2020 20:53

@Straycatstrut me too, just an hour with tiny hands pawing at me... would be bliss!

Notso · 08/04/2020 20:54

All my neighbours have been in their gardens today.
Loud working on the phone neighbour,
Always mowing and strimming neighbour,
Renovation neighbour,
Smokers cough neighbour,
Barky dogs neighbour,
Squeaky swing and shrieky kid neighbour,
Weed and music neighbour,
BBQ neighbour.

I went out for a bit but it was way too hot so took refuge in the conservatory.

Yesterdayforgotten · 08/04/2020 20:54

no tiny hands that should say

BookWitch · 08/04/2020 20:55

Me and DD1 are WFH. DD2 and DD3 are doing uni work.
We meet in the garden for coffee break (elevenses), lunch and afternoon tea (where we decide what to have for dinner. We are turning into hobbits.

Yesterdayforgotten · 08/04/2020 20:55

Notso which neighbour are you? We have names for ours too but often wonder if they have one for us Shock

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2020 20:56

Are you sure you aren't a cat OP? You do exactly what my cat does.

MrsSnitchnose · 08/04/2020 20:57

Because I don't like the sun and stay out of it as much as possible. It's one of the only things I'm glad about during this lockdown, that it's happened at my most hated time of year Smile

Aside from the above, I've no desire to interact with most of the neighbours, nor have to breathe in the ever present smell of weed

BabyDubsEverywhere · 08/04/2020 21:00

I like looking at my garden as I pass a window, but other than that, I'm not interested in it. Four DC here aged 5 to 12, none of them are really interested in it, either. It looks very pretty, but a big photo of it plastered to my windows would be as good.

Corneliusmurphy · 08/04/2020 21:01

My neighbour has taken to her garden and is playing awful music so I’m now avoiding it.

I’ve never known her to use the garden this much in over ten years of living here, and that’s with having two kids (who’s aren’t here currently as she’s managed to hand over them to her elderly mother for quarantine)

Quarantimespringclean · 08/04/2020 21:01

Ive lived next door to the same family for 8 years and I’ve never seen them in their garden. I know they go outside because sometimes clothes appear on an airer and the little boy sometimes leaves toys lying around but I’ve never actually witnessed it.
