What happened to the letters the government were writing to every household?

About 10 days ago I thought it was announced that the government was writing to every household in the country to reiterate the advice regarding CV

I thought it seemed a waste of time and money as you’d have to be living in a bunker to have not heard to before but that’s beside the point

Did anyone actually receive this letter?

Got ours a few days ago. End of last week I think.

There will be delays in post due to workers trying to avoid being in a (usually) small office all at the same time, normally about 80 staff per office.

Also the union decided a couple of weeks ago that staff were not to share vans. In most areas usually two people share a van.

And lots of people on sick leave or isolating.

caz114 · 08/04/2020 11:45

Mine came this am, it's now in the decontamination zone.

enjoyingSun · 08/04/2020 11:46

We've had the post today already and still haven't got one.

Bluebellbike · 08/04/2020 11:47

Got mine yesterday. Greater Manchester.

insancerre · 08/04/2020 11:49

No
Nothing yet. Northwest

Cadfaelfan · 08/04/2020 11:51

I got mine on Monday. I expect it's as much about postal service capacity as anything.

Longdistance · 08/04/2020 11:52

We got ours on Monday. Depends how they distributed them and how often the posties are carrying the extra post I suppose?!

eenymeenyminyme · 08/04/2020 11:52

My friend got two. I haven't had one at the moment and the postie has just been.

Whatisthisfuckery · 08/04/2020 11:53

Got mine today. It’s gone straight in the recycling. I have not been living under a rock. What a waste of government money.

RedRec · 08/04/2020 11:54

Yes, a few days ago. West Yorkshire.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 08/04/2020 11:54

Nope, we got a leaflet but no letter.

ShowOfHands · 08/04/2020 11:54

We've got ours. I know people think it's a waste of money and they're likely right. However, it doesn't matter if its nothing I didn't already know, plenty of people don't have access to unbiased, clear information. This provides an official party line and clear instructions.

Won't stop Debbie from Hull sharing her "eat an avocado and a pineapple and your pH levels will fight Covid" memes though.

Wiaa · 08/04/2020 11:55

Ours has just arrived

TheDogsMother · 08/04/2020 11:55

Yesterday. It doesn't really say anything new so I'm not sure of the point of the exercise.

WanderingMilly · 08/04/2020 11:55

Not had anything yet, but as I only moved recently I assume they don't know where I am yet.....

ohcarona · 08/04/2020 11:55

Just got ours.

Greendin · 08/04/2020 11:56

The letter is in a plain white envelope with no address on it, it comes through the letter box with the other junk mail like Farmfoods and Pizza Hut flyers. I didn't even notice it and put it in the recycling bin with the flyers.

It's not a letter personally addressed to you.

Summerisdone · 08/04/2020 11:57

I've not had mine yet, but I've also not seen the postman on my street for over a week now so don't actually know if we're still even getting post at this point 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bimbleboo · 08/04/2020 11:59

Isn’t the full letter online anyway?im sure sky news published it weeks ago so I didn’t bother reading it when it arrived, having already seen it anyway.

gingajewel · 08/04/2020 12:00

Got ours this morning, west midlands

happymummy12345 · 08/04/2020 12:02

We got ours today. Liverpool. Waste of time and money, spend it getting the nhs staff what they need instead.

Cadfaelfan · 08/04/2020 12:09

While I am no fan of this government, I do actually support them doing this. There is still about 7.5% of the population who have never used the internet (not don't have access to it, have never used it). The proportion of internet non-users is highest amongst the over 75s and the disabled, i.e. groups who are most at risk from covid-19.

My mum, in her 80s listens to the news but has no internet access and doesn't get a paper. She only found out about lockdown because I phoned her and told her to watch PM's announcement. She phoned up some friends of a similar age and they knew nothing about it. It's not like they have to wfh or provide child care, so it had mosly passed them by.

While they are now aware of the guidance, none of them can go online and look it up. Having it written down in an official leaflet as something they can refer to is actually really valuable for some groups.

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/04/2020 12:25

I have not been living under a rock. What a waste of government money.
Not everyone has internet access, many older people don't.

Some people don't even have a TV - my sister doesn't, she thinks it's all rubbish and doesn't do any SM either although she's not averse to sharing rubbish information via email (the sip water every 15 minutes one) and was one of the people in the busy London parks at the weekend. She's not particularly old either, early 60s and younger than me.

1forsorrow · 08/04/2020 12:27

I agree it is a waste of time, if you are so isolated you don't know what is going on you don't really need to do anything unusual do you.

I got the letter yesterday and got another one today so double waste of money.

steamboatwilly123 · 08/04/2020 12:28

Nope! I'm in County Durham.
