3 week plateau, 3 week falling, then schools open?

The figures being released are promising.

I’ve said all along that there is absolutely no chance the schools will keep closed until the end of July!

I think it’s looking like they will reopen after May half term.

That article was so unbelievably bad. Don't think the researchers had ever been to school. Maybe they had as it was done
In China and Singapore not even Europe.

There has been no studies done on just schools opening that is based on them mixing in the community etc and that isn't happening.
It as bad as the article today saying that UK will have 3x the deaths of Italy. Lots of nonsense going around.

As for when schools are back who knows.

When will the pub open?

PipsM · 07/04/2020 21:25

We don’t have the staff at my school to reopen fully, lots are shielding or have to self isolate because of their or their partners conditions and there’s still 9 weeks left for that as a minimum.

Cranb0rne · 07/04/2020 21:25

If they do open before July, I won't be sending my son in.

KindKylie · 07/04/2020 21:26

Even the scientists saying schools could reopen, are advocating that numbers would have to be kept low and social distancing would have to be adhered to.

I'm not keen for my dc to go to school on a weird unpredictable rota, not having sociable mealtime or play times, being made to wash their hand obsessively etc.

I'd rather they stayed home (and given that none of the experts is advocating any other returns to normal many parents will still be at home too).

JackChaffinch · 07/04/2020 21:26

What figures are really promising? I thought we were having the peak in about ten days? Plateauing there for at least three weeks then a couple of months of the other side of the curve depending on what measures are brought in or relaxed?

AlmostThereKeepMoving · 07/04/2020 21:27

Nicola Surgeon says she expects them not to open before August.

It would be nice to be told this, just so we know one way or another. I think it’s the fact we haven’t been told anything past next Monday which is actually quite stressful.

They’ve cancelled exams, no chance they’ll be back so soon. They’d be playing with our kids lives if they did. There’s no way my kids are going back so soon.

FaFoutis · 07/04/2020 21:29

I think it might be June too. The noises towards it are starting - 'the science' and Denmark.

Siameasy · 07/04/2020 21:30

I agree with Cranb0rne - if they open too early and it feels like a rushed job I’d rather not send DD. Can you imagine the mayhem? I cannot see us back to normal by June. The gaggle of parents collecting kids forced to queue 2m apart. Queue would be in the next town.

Darcydashwood · 07/04/2020 21:30

I don’t want schools to open before it’s safe. I do however want my son to start to get some normality to his life back and socialising with his friends again as soon as it’s safe to do so. This doesn’t mean I want to palm him off at school Hmm

ChickLitLover · 07/04/2020 21:31

Why are people so obsessed with wanting kids to go back ASAP? I want my kids safe

This.

Hippywannabe · 07/04/2020 21:31

Your kids might die or the staff might die if we go back too early. I cannot get my head around the desperation in Mumsnet for children to go back to school.
I want things to go back to normal, I want to get my class back and see my parents but I want to see ALL of them and I am terrified we will rush through a decision to back and regret it.

Travelban · 07/04/2020 21:32

I think it's going to be September as well. Sadly..

atotalshambles · 07/04/2020 21:32

Furloughing staff finishes in June . So if schools don’t open then what will happen to people who have to return to work. No money versus kids at home?

midgebabe · 07/04/2020 21:33

Trouble is with a new virus it's impossible to say at the outset for definite when anything might happen.

So they do things in three week blocks because that's as far ahead as they can be reasonably certain

Not ideal, but better than being hopelessly wrong

Sennetti · 07/04/2020 21:33

you haven't been told anything because they dont know!!

the virus has taken hold in the community now. hadn't so much before the schools were closed, but now its rife. and kids are getting it and dying too.

why should school staff be exposed? cant believe how many are so keen to ship the kids back to school at earliest opportunity

SansaSnark · 07/04/2020 21:33

Scotland is different because their summer holidays start in June.

But the big problem with schools going back is how do you staff them? If we are still following the 14 day isolation rule if someone in your household has symptoms, and staff have to do this every time they have a cough, schools just can't function safely, let alone maintain social distancing.

If we get a proper antibody test, schools may be able to go back sooner, if the antibody test is available to teachers.

Otherwise, I think it will be late June at the earliest.

SoftSheen · 07/04/2020 21:34

I can't see how social distancing could ever happen in a Reception class.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 07/04/2020 21:35

Schools won't open anytime soon.......they're filthy germ pits at the best of times. I think there'll be a gradual lifting of restrictions.........I'd be amazed if they're back before September and that's mainly because we aren't testing enough and isolating people who show few symptoms.

I think the UK is in for the long haul and it's our governments fault. 💁🏻‍♀️

Siameasy · 07/04/2020 21:36

Tell me about it. My DD’s hands were starting to crack from washing every 45 mins. Yes it’s fairly trivial but shows it would be untenable to return in the near future. Mayhem.

the end of furlough could be extended

BornfreebutinCovidChains · 07/04/2020 21:37

Snowflakes I agree.
I'd be worried sick!

Why the bloody rush.
What gets me is, anyone mentiones '' capitol punishment... Even for people like Fred West... Mumsnet collective crashes in that we mustn't its Vile.. It's disgusting, even thinking about it makes you a murderer...

And yet mumsnet collective seems desperate to push dc back into hotbed of transmission 🙄

Needtobepositive · 07/04/2020 21:37

After half term the kids are due to go back on 1st June here. As much as I want my
Year 6 child to have 7 more weeks of primary school and enjoy the goodbyes and some fun times, I’m not sure it will happen. Let’s hope it can but I’m expecting September.

Disressingtimes · 07/04/2020 21:37

You are wrong.

The NHS trust I work in is gearing up for peak at the end of May. No way will schools be open before September.
