I really hope he gets better soon, but if he is a lot iller than he’s been claiming why lie about it? It would be far more productive to just tell the truth. My distrust for him would just increase if he’s lied, as he could have actually used his own experience of covid for the greater good.

Because, going on what survivors say, pneumonia comes as a sort of second wind with coronavirus. You start feeling a bit better, then it suddenly hits you. You don't see many people with pneumonia standing at a podium holding a press conference, do you?

I could hardly be accused of leading the Boris Johnson Fan Club, but fucking hell.

Jenasaurus · 05/04/2020 23:27

Only cigars I think

Moomin8 · 05/04/2020 23:27

I had no idea Boris was a smoker.

Well tbh I doubt he'd be puffing away at prime ministers question time!

Smokers have a harder time with this illness because their lungs are already damaged. And if you're addicted you wouldn't stop during the illness. It's pretty bad. The areas hardest hit have the worst air condition too. Lombardy, London, and also around the midlands area worst hit.

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 23:27

I don't think Boris smokes?

Bathroom12345 · 05/04/2020 23:28

God - there are some horrible, nasty comments on this thread.

Peregrina · 05/04/2020 23:28

I wonder if his Doctor did tell him to rest and he was too stubborn to do so?

Moomin8 · 05/04/2020 23:29

@Ambesoli harsh but true...

UYScuti · 05/04/2020 23:29

Air pollution from spending a lot of time in a big city probably also has the bearing on this?

j712adrian · 05/04/2020 23:30

not a Tory, but wish him well. Thought he looked very unwell in his last twittercast.

LangClegsInSpace · 05/04/2020 23:31

I have wished bedbugs on Boris Johnson on numerous occasions but I don't wish this virus on anyone. I hope he makes a good recovery and I hope he hasn't passed it on to too many other people.

What's the deal here though? Aren't the rest of us just being advised to stay at home with our symptoms and not bother 111, 999, our GPs or A&E until we are struggling to breathe? Has anybody else been admitted to hospital as a precautionary measure on the advice of their doctor?

Either he is much more unwell than is being reported or he is getting privileged access to life saving care. Neither of these are good.

Moomin8 · 05/04/2020 23:33

The thing is though LangCleg and although I agree with you, the PM dying from this would be pretty panic inducing.

middleager · 05/04/2020 23:33

Is he a smoker? no mention of it, but there's a picture of him with a cigar. He also mentioned cigars and birth of children.

But there's no evidence of cigarettes...

everythingisginandroses · 05/04/2020 23:34

Day 10 was bad for me, but not hospital-grade bad*. As a human being (and a Labour Party member) I hope he comes through ok.

*No, I haven't been tested, but have had all symptoms. None of the dozen or so symptomatic people I know have been unwell enough to have been tested.

BrooHaHa · 05/04/2020 23:34

Bloods and x-rays could probably have been done at Downing St (vets do x-rays on horses almost literally in the field all the time)

Uh huh. And can you imagine what the media would make of that? How much more expensive it would be to have a portable x-ray brought to him?

Millicent10 · 05/04/2020 23:35

We cannot have a seriously ill man running the country from a hospital bed during a fast moving crisis. He needs to hand the reins over ASAP and take time to recover from this properly. Options are letting the next in line take over (Dom Rabb), getting the Health Secretary to take over or having a quick vote by all MPs to elect a temporary PM.

Get well soon Boris.

LittlePaintBox · 05/04/2020 23:35

He hasn't looked great since it was announced that he was ill. I've felt quite sorry for him alone in the house after Carrie moved out, apparently having his meals left on the doorstep. Pretty miserable for anyone.

This is a dreadful illustration of how dangerous Covid-19 seems to be - he's apparently infected a load of colleagues, and now become seriously ill himself.

SnoozyLou · 05/04/2020 23:37

Uh huh. And can you imagine what the media would make of that? How much more expensive it would be to have a portable x-ray brought to him?

Do you think they'd do a press release about that?

esjee · 05/04/2020 23:37

@LittlePaintBox to be fair, we have no idea who infected whom.

kingofkings · 05/04/2020 23:37

Get well soon Boris. I hope he is found to be stable.

Leflic · 05/04/2020 23:38

Of course he’s getting privileged access, he’s the sodding Prime Minister.
He also gets security to help keep him alive. The average Joe doesn’t but no one complains about him getting that.

CoolCarrie · 05/04/2020 23:39

I hope this gives his smug , ignorant father pause for thought re his stupid comments about continuing to go to the pub at the star of the lockdown and the brilliant treatment he will get make him value the NHS more. I can’t stand Boris, and everything his party stands for, but hope he does get better, especially as he has a child on the way.

Moomin8 · 05/04/2020 23:40

The duchess of Cambridge smokes too but there's no mention of that anywhere much. I think a lot of people in the public eye don't lead the healthiest lifestyles.

Boris Johnson isn't known for his sensible approach to life. I really doubt he even tried to avoid catching the virus. Some people aren't scared of life & death etc. If he were to die it would be just awful though.

kingofkings · 05/04/2020 23:40

The only safe way to assess and monitor a sick patient is emergency admission to an nhs hospital bed.

UYScuti · 05/04/2020 23:41

I think the prime minister should get special care, is that really controversial?

kingofkings · 05/04/2020 23:42

The thing is the best care is nhs. Private patients have to move over to nhs bed if they become unstable. That's because the whole system is there in nhs acute hospital and escalation can be done if needed.
