There are no routine admissions at all at present.

Bimbleboo · 05/04/2020 22:52

I know people keep saying that it’s general practice to not admit people on a Sunday evening and in my experience this is a fair assessment. But this is the PM. Could it be possible they WOULD admit him at a time when they ARE unlikely to be admitting many others? So as to do it quietly, and without much fuss or many members of the public waiting around the same wards etc?

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/04/2020 22:53

Wonder what if Trump will still feel unphased by it once he realises BJ has been hospitalised?

Bflatmajorsharp · 05/04/2020 22:54

The private sector has hardly any ICU beds and generally isn't set up for emergencies or unpredictable situations.

Patients get transported to the nearest A&E if they need more care.

Johnson's in an NHS hospital according to the news reports.

I also hope that he recovers.

Nat6999 · 05/04/2020 22:55

He could be the first patient in the Nightingale warehouse hospital, nice empty ward better for security.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 05/04/2020 22:55

@Ostanovka

This is why there was all the debate about the best timing for the Queen's speech. The country needed to feel someone is in charge, when the news broke about Boris.
The timing of the Queen's speech has been arranged for days.

There's no way he's only just been admitted.
I don't think we would be lied to about this.

On another note, I see that Dominic Cummings' uncle, Sir John Laws, has also died and, although he was being treated for sepsis and other things, he also had Coronavirus too.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 05/04/2020 22:55

@CalmerViolet I agree, and that’s why it’s annoying they haven’t been truthful about his illness. It would probably have woken a lot of people up to how serious it is and made people realise how they need to act to save the lives of others.

Once again I want him to get better, and don’t want any harm to come to him.

FATEdestiny · 05/04/2020 22:57

Sunday evening admissions

It was announced on Sunday evening.

Just after the queens speech in order to bury the news as much as poss and have a big enough story to share front page news.

In fact the cynic in my thinks the reason the Queens speak was 'leaked' early to the press is so that newspapers could prepare their front pages before this announcement about Boris Johnson was made.

I think he was admitted earlier today.

Dongdingdong · 05/04/2020 22:57

I miss his positive vibes and feel that he was doing his best to lead us through this awful crisis.

Same here.

The Guardian is saying it received information last week that his condition was more serious than anybody was admitting, but that when it was raised with Downing St the response was a flat denial.

Why didn’t the Guardian run an article about it last week then? Confused

hellsbells99 · 05/04/2020 22:57

I hope Boris is okay and recovers.

Nothappy599 · 05/04/2020 22:57

He isn't well enough to stay at home, despite probably having doctors all over him.
It sounds like he needs hospital intervention. I don't know what he can't get at home, but it sounds serious to me.
Tests?
I very much doubt it.

I hope he recovered. Despite all feelings on his politics.

JeSuisPoulet · 05/04/2020 22:57

I don't like the guy but do wish him recovery. I do also hope it makes him less macho in his approach - minimising this virus for weeks and boasting about shaking hands while you spread it to your pregnant girlfriend and half of the cabinet was not very clever and has contributed to the mixed messages and poor communication.

CoffeeRunner · 05/04/2020 22:58

@Bimbleboo not currently I wouldn’t think. ALL admissions are emergency admissions just now. So any time of the day, day of the week etc can be as busy as any other.

chomalungma · 05/04/2020 22:58

Why didn’t the Guardian run an article about it last week then

So the country and the people aren't panicked or worried?

Eireni · 05/04/2020 22:58

They could be trying to break the news that he is very unwell in stages so the public handle it better.
I’d hazard the opposite, to be honest, that No10 would release the bare minimum info that they can’t avoid revealing. To avoid public speculation and scrutiny like on this thread Smile

I don’t expect there’ll be any more updates on this until later tomorrow, unless there are any significant changes (he is discharged, preferably, or becomes fully incapacitated/ventilated). I would expect he is already on o2/CPAP type treatment now tbh.

lyralalala · 05/04/2020 22:58

first Nightingale patient do you think?

They'll not test a new facility on the PM. Plus with the size of that site it would be a security nightmare

JediJim · 05/04/2020 22:59

Lots of idiots still out today, when I saw the news that seemed to focus on London parks.
Should be a lesson that if the PM can be hospitalised due to it then it should be taken just a tad seriously.
Still the idiots will be out again tomorrow, some will never learn.
Hope Boris gets better soon. This isn’t good...

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 05/04/2020 23:00

Sundays are usually not any quieter. Especially during a pandemic Hmm

Polly02 · 05/04/2020 23:00

I sort of feel dreadful to say this. I definitely don't like Boris - but also would not wish anything bad on him.

But the whole of this government is a pantomime. It's a performance. I don't believe anything we're told to be true.

So unfortunately this latest bit of news just feels like the next bit of the story - that's meant to sway the public - and move us onto our next stage of compliance.

Rhea1981 · 05/04/2020 23:01

This is just awful and so scary. I really wish him all the best and hope he gets well soon. Can't believe people still making nasty comments about him when he's clearly very unwell. Get well soon Boris.

Peregrina · 05/04/2020 23:01

Had he taken a turn for the worse when Dominic Cummings ran away?
That was the middle of last week, wasn't it?

Was Carrie's tweet about having it also an attempt to deflect us from the news? I feel particularly sorry for anyone pregnant at the moment, and no doubt worried sick about it all.

Yester · 05/04/2020 23:01

NHS or BUPA is a moot point as there is its all the same. Many BUPA Drs work NHS as well. The private sector has hired beds to the NHS.

esjee · 05/04/2020 23:02

@Polly02. Oh for God's sake.

chaosisaladder · 05/04/2020 23:03

I hope he gets well.

Thank goodness we didn’t wander down his initial path of herd immunity; this virus is serious

SuckingDieselFella · 05/04/2020 23:04

@KeysDontBelongInTheFridge

"I agree, and that’s why it’s annoying they haven’t been truthful about his illness"

Once again, nobody is lying and it isn't about you. Nobody cares if you are annoyed.

You might be used to reality stars oversharing on social media but this is the prime minister. If he were seriously ill the news would need to be managed so that people don't get frightened. Surely this isn't difficult to understand?
