People demanding a full lock down

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 16:05

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

Well said !! People getting in a rage over others buying 'non essential items' like chocolate, magazines, etc.? For goodness sake get a grip, what exactly is an essential item, a tin of sardines ? People are allowed to make the best of the circumstances they have.

ilovecakeandwine · 04/04/2020 16:54

Exactly @Yolo2 I agree ,
if no one left the house and that means no one ie including key workers and no one going food shopping or exercise the cases wouldn't just stop.
We can't stop the virus the lockdown is just to slow it down .
God it's like Groundhog Day !!

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 16:54

@pinkhearts exactly. We need to eat nice nutricious meals. We need to enjoy the cake. We need to walk and breathe in the air. We just need to stay away from others (2m) I agree.

Everyone around here is following the advise. Keep to the social distance rules etc. Yes there are more people walking around local park because they can't travel further a field to exercise.

yearinyearout · 04/04/2020 16:55

@Nquartz where are those caravans going? The caravans parks are all closed.

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/04/2020 16:55

And you'd comply if the alternative was getting arrested, which it will be if further restrictions are announced, which they will be if people continue with the "I'm not going to follow the advice" shit.

I vote we keep this thread for the next two weeks and see how it ages when the sheet selfishness combined with stupidity means everyone will be locked down properly. Then whinge about your frozen chip scarcity.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 16:56

I like sardines.

Who has mentioned frozen chips Grin

I like the idea that bread and milk are not staple foods in the UK. These days quinoa and tahini presumably Grin

LavenderQuartz · 04/04/2020 16:56

hey if i run out of milk i have my coffee black. and no bread? i have something different

its not fricking 'essential'!! might be different for BABIES and small children, but not for everyone else

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 16:56

NO YOU CAN'T HAVE A CUP OF TEA YOU MURDERER!

is it wise to keep English people from a cuppa at a time like this.

Tartyflette · 04/04/2020 16:57

I live on a fairly quiet rural road, (except during rush hours) on the outskirts of a village about 30 miles outside London. The village is pretty and popular with 'let's have a drive out into the country' people. That's fine.
But since the lockdown the road has been a lot quieter, of course..
And it is noticeably quieter again today.
We've had a lot more walkers and runners going past recently too, this is not a problem, it's clear they are out for their exercise.
However, here again it seems quieter today. There are distinctly fewer people about.
So, to add my twopennorth to the frothing, IME people seem to be being eminently sensible, around here anyway. Very little evidence yet that further restrictions may br needed.

LimitIsUp · 04/04/2020 16:57

I am following the guidelines - sticking to own household, working from home, essential travel etc - but if there is complete lockdown I will not comply. Can't just be me as an erstwhile committed to the 'stay at home' message, who would rebel at further repression. It's a dangerous strategy and would push too many people beyond the limits of their endurance

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 16:57

Christ.

I never thought I'd see the day that bread and milk were not considered staple foods in the UK.

People have lost the plot.

Bringonspring · 04/04/2020 16:58

The forth coming recession will kill more people

Sapphiresunrise · 04/04/2020 16:58

Someone on my Facebook is getting into a rage over people ordering takeaways (for delivery obviously).

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 16:59

@TheCanterburyWhales

Thanks for the advice on making a real chip. But it was an example. Bread is essential in this house. if I ran out I would put something out the freezer in the oven for a quick dinner. That was my point. Then my point was but the other quick dinners I'd also make,,,, chips, pasta etc are also not available! Why are we in your view part of a problem?

For your information I haven't been in a supermarket since we were locked down two weeks ago. I have been for 3 walks! Out of 15! I've not seen a single adult apart from my partner for two weeks.

I think we need some additional elements adding to the current lockdown such as how far you can travel from your home address. I also think what is classed as essential and non essential needs to be addressed.

I work in construction, and whilst I'm glad I still have a full time job it's not essential were building luxury flats, shops etc. As they've closed hotels all over the labourers, managers etc are travelling 2+ hours a day to and from sites it's not essential but if we don't turn up we are in breach of contract.

uhohimbad · 04/04/2020 17:00

I'm with you op. The comments saying "we need full lock down with army patrolling the streets" need to get a bloody life. Most people are doing the right thing, so it IS making a difference! Some people just have no life anyway so want everyone else to be stuck in forever with them. My friend called me earlier saying it's obvious everyone is breaking the rules now because so many cars were on the road... I said how do you know?! She said she had gone out for a drive to get out the house! Well maybe that's what everyone else were doing!

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 17:00

its not fricking 'essential'!! might be different for BABIES and small children, but not for everyone else

What is then?

Besides you do realise the government used the word basic. Not essential.

Besides....who are you to tell someone what is essential in their household?

Sapphiresunrise · 04/04/2020 17:00

I'd love to see a list of what food items are considered 'essential'

LolaSmiles · 04/04/2020 17:00

Those claiming milk and bread aren't essentials make me laugh, however there's absolutely no need to be shopping for them every couple of days because they do keep longer than 2-3 days.
I'm not sure why one poster is buying 4 pints at a time because milk doesn't keep. We go through 10-12 pints a week and the milk I bought in the supermarket yesterday has a date of 9th and 14th or 16th April. Standard supermarket loaves have a date longer than a couple of days, unless you're choosing to buy the paper wrapped ones on the bakery counter, but then common sense says you'd get one of those and one sliced loaf with a longer date rather than putting bread preferences above the need to follow social distancing.

3rdTrimester · 04/04/2020 17:00

Bring on the full, enforced lockdown, the sooner the better!

'Most people' doing the right thing is not enough. Everyone needs to be following the clear instructions and staying at home in order for us to get through this with as few deaths as possible.

Bread and milk are not essentials, they're preferences. No one is going to die from having to go without a ham sandwich and cereal for a few days.

So many people make excuses to get around doing as they're told (in order to feed their own selfish needs) which is exactly why a full lockdown is necessary.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 17:01

The comments saying "we need full lock down with army patrolling the streets" need to get a bloody life.

I wonder how many people actually have experience of living like this. Like Derry was in the 80s. On our estate the army even used to shut down the road for the meter reader.

If they had experienced it. They wouldnt want it.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 04/04/2020 17:01

@Yamihere Plenty of people in your situation ARE complying. Why do you think you should be the exception? Confused

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 17:02

Bread has been, probably THE staple food in the UK for centuries.

I'm lol at the idea it's a luxury Grin

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/04/2020 17:02

Bread is essential everywhere.
Going to buy it every day is not.

But tell us more about how lockdown won't stop the virus? I'm sure the epidemiologists would like to hear.
