People demanding a full lock down

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 16:05

It really really annoys me! Most of us are following rules. Not even going for a walk most days. People are kicking off on my local corna page that theres more cars in town today. So they now think we need a full lock down.

Firstly it's the weekend. More people will be shopping due to being at work all week? People might be shopping for other family and dropping it off.

Theres a police statement that the a52 is really quiet and they are saying well done for listening.

People are allowed out for walks. It's important for dogs, children and adults to get air and move around. It should be one walk a day. It can't be controlled if 400 people choose to do just that between 1-2pm or only 30 do. So yes the streets may sometimes show more people. But most of them are probably just going for a walk. The only thing we have left for our minds and health.

I'm not talking about people having picnics,
Travelling for an afternoon walk somewhere,
Sneaking to see family unless they need help.

I'm saying the majority of people are going to be doing the decent thing.

I think rather than fully locking us down fine the minority sat in groups and doing the "wrong" things. Give them a full lockdown but don't punish the many decent people.

The parents/people in flats without gardens need to walk

Young children need to move.

We all need to move about.

Also i wish people would stop getting in a rage about cars being out. There are no online shopping slots. So thousands of locals will need to go out for food each week. Milk and bread etc will need buying for many every few days. Pet food needs buying. Prescriptions need collecting. Workers need to go to and from work.

A huge majority of people are following the rules. I'm sick of everyone being put into the same category. My kids have gone for their 3rd walk in two weeks just now with their dad. I'm sure people will be tutting and presuming we are another family out and not listening. They need to get out for 15 minutes today though. They are starting to climb the walls and get bored.

Far too many irate people at the moment.

The longer we are cooped up with no excercise or social life the weaker we will become! We are not designed to be cooped up for weeks. Especially when this virus wont die out until they discover a vaccination.

lemontreebird · 04/04/2020 16:41

I don't think they should make a show of them. That's a slippery slope.

Appuskidu · 04/04/2020 16:41

Milk and bread do not need to be purchased every few days. They are not essentials

I’d say they were!

ilovecakeandwine · 04/04/2020 16:41

If your seeing lots of people out while your out why are they selfish and your not ?
I don't see any of this I try exercise when it's quiet and I can hardly complain about people out food shopping on a Saturday when I'm doing the same thing . Hmm

NewYearNewJob123 · 04/04/2020 16:43

If milk and bread aren't essentials, what are dipshits defining as essential?

Do people actually think before they post critiscising other people and rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of telling other people off?

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 16:43

Lockdown is not a punishment it is a way to try and save lives and the NHS.

People failing to adhere to the principles will end up facing harsher restrictions through their own undoing.

For the benefit of the nation we need a very strict tough lockdown for the foreseeable future to get us out of this misery sooner rather than it drag on into next year.

The NHS is already at breaking point, a tighter lockdown could keep it functioning.

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 16:44

@rc22

The police are happy but the curtain twitchers think everyone outside is up to no good. They havn't asked these people where they are going. They have decided they are doing non essential journeys

OP posts:
ilovecakeandwine · 04/04/2020 16:44

And enough with the arguing about bread & milk being essentials. I say they are and if you don't I don't really care . We all have different idea of what essentials are . I use bread & milk every day so to me it's essential.

pjmask · 04/04/2020 16:46

I'm really confused. On my local facebook pages, people are complaining that nobody is sticking to the rules and too many people are going whilst at the same time the local police are posting pictures of empty streets and thanking and congratulating people for staying at home. Really don't get it!!

Because people love to stir up hate. Gleefully finger pointing because they have seen something they believe "breaks the rules" when in fact most of the examples given may well be within the rules!

This thread is a classic example "bread and milk are not essentials" ffs 😂😂😂

Op YANBU. This has brought out the worst in so many people and I'm not talking about the people flouting the rules!

Nat6999 · 04/04/2020 16:48

708 people have died in the last 24 hours, the curve doesn't appear to be flattening yet. Unless more obey the lockdown the rules will get stricter.

Aesopfable · 04/04/2020 16:48

Lockdown or not should not be based on what ‘people demand’! It should be based on scientific advice.

mindproject · 04/04/2020 16:49

I'm going out as often as I like - which happens to be 4 days a week for work and a few hours a week for shopping and exercise. Since all the shops, cinemas, restaurants and events are all closed there's nowhere to go anyway.

JorisBonson · 04/04/2020 16:49

After seeing the amount of people milling around Chelsea Embankment today, picnicking in parks with friends and playing football over Blackheath, I think a lockdown is needed.

(I'm a keyworker and was on my way home from work before anyone asks why I was out).

yearinyearout · 04/04/2020 16:49

I don't know where you lot live but in my usually busy market town people seem to be following the restrictions. I walked through town at about 11 and back through about 1, it would normally be overrun with locals and visitors and it was very quiet. We have a popular riverside area and there were the odd few people out for their walk or bike ride. Odd car passing through. Certainly looks like people are taking notice.

Yolo2 · 04/04/2020 16:50

For those pushing for a full lockdown - genuine question. What will happen with the full lockdown is eased? What is it you want from a full lockdown? It's not going to cure this problem. It's knee-jerk. Do you think this problem will just go away because of a full lockdown? The government scientists are trying to balance the numbers. They will have taken some degree of non compliance in to account. What do you think a full lockdown will achieve?

JorisBonson · 04/04/2020 16:50

I'm going out as often as I like

There's the problem in one sentence.

mindproject · 04/04/2020 16:50

It's not a problem. I'm hardly going out.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 16:51

I think we need to enforce this lock down properly.

Not talking about stopping people buying easter eggs but actually cracking down on big groups. Not ideal but better than further lockdown on everyone.

But people need to stop focusing on what people are doing wrong.

Of course the supermarket is busier today. People still work. I may wfh, but I cant go out Tuesday afternoon to shop, because I am working. Weekends have always been busier for that reason.

Would a full lock down ban people who dont work, from going on a weekend? Or would it still be busier?

The majority of people are going out less. The majority arent going shopping everyday. Roads might be businer today, but compares to a weekend this time last year, its quiet.

Supermarkets are having people going less. I pass one on the way home, I used to go in, in my way home to grab milk, bread etc. I dont now. Lots of people I know are the same. The supermarket has a long queue, but it takes 15 mins at most to get in and quicker overall because its easier shop.

People really need to concentrate on the ones that are acting right. Not focussing on the people who arent. Unless the police are going actually do something, nothing will stop the dickheads.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 04/04/2020 16:51

Funny all these people that say people are out where they live.

Today’s press conference they have said
Britons so far appear to be adhering to social distancing rules despite the temptation to go out in sunny weather, Michael Gove says.

He says he knows the government is asking a lot of the British people.

NHS England Director Stephen Powis says there is some evidence social distancing measures are reducing transmission of the virus.

So it would appear most people are in fact listening. I think a lot of curtain twitcher just see someone going out and assume it’s for “non essential” reasons and let’s face it on mumsnet some appear to think we should stay in 25/7 with just plain rice and tap water as anything nice to eat and drink is not essential

Londongirl88888 · 04/04/2020 16:52

The virus will still be around until a vaccine is found

80% of us will get mild cases and not even all have symptoms. We do need to keep the vunerable protecyed. That's why they have been told to stay in for three months. But months and months of the rest of us being locked down will create

More job losses
More suicide and mental health issues
More poverty
More problems with obesity etc.
We will become more and more unhealthy.
Children being locked up for months will cause alot of complications.

I'm fairly healthy as in I don't drive.i walk everywhere. I normally walk 2 hours a day doing school runs and stuff. I am starting to feel really sluggish. I also have to go upstairs for a break after tea. My partner watches the two young kids. I have to go for a bath or a sit on the bed with a cuppa. Because it's so full on being home all day with two kids who are used to going to school and the parks etc. I don't suffer from depression (occasionally I get anxious) but I'm still finding the last few days tough! I really do see why we need to do what we are. I'm in this and won't be breaking rules. Just imagine people who suffer with mental health. This has got to have some sort of balance!

Yamihere · 04/04/2020 16:52

I live in a flat. Normally spend 3ish hours a day walking as well as 15 hours per week outside at work. Not working and leaving for exercise only once a day is really hard, I hate being cooped up inside. I just wouldn't comply with a no going out at all rule. As others have pointed out, the virus would still be there, so is pointless anyway.

BeetrootRocks · 04/04/2020 16:52

Bread and milk not essentials Grin

Yeah definitely not staple foods in the UK.

Proper lol

Nquartz · 04/04/2020 16:53

Tell that to the posters who are seeing an influx of caravans in Wales.

It's v quiet round my estate, everyone seems to be following the rules, crossing the road to avoid each other etc but I'm not naive enough to think people are still flouting the rules based on the posts on here

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/04/2020 16:53

You could try buying a potato instead of whining you can't get frozen chips?
This entire thread is the perfect example of the pure selfishness that means the UK death toll will continue to rise.
And the comments about the "virus being here to stay" are more scaremongering than anybody telling you you don't need to buy milk every day.
This thread needs to be published in the Redtops to show the govt that people are too stupid to be given "advice".

LavenderQuartz · 04/04/2020 16:54

where did that list come from??
