Hi everyone, I hope your all well and safe. Ive never posted before, but I've been following like everyone else the developments over the last few months of covid 19. As of yet the government have said as its a new disease they still don't know much about it, thinking that it affected the elderly or people with respiratory issues. As of recent events we now know its not just the elderly and vulnerable people. Its our younger and our elder generation who are healthy with no health pre health conditions who are contracting this disease and many are dying within days or weeks. Some people say when they contract it, they have mild symptoms who are healthy. Other people who have no conditions are saying its like the devil pressing on them. Those who say they have recoved from the disease have said that they still feel weak with respiratory problems. The government have said its not flu. Seasonal flu does unfortunately kill hundreds of people a year. This is no flu. It is killing people who are perfectly healthy. There not just contracting the disease and recovering, many are. But as you can see thousands arnt across the world. Someone I spoke to recently said to me, we've hadcvmany deaths of seasonal flu. But we don't shut down whole countries across the world. Something doesn't make sense to me. Sorry if I'm going on a bit. My main issue is this. Why are healthy people dying within days of feeling unwell, to dying within days or a week. No one on the news or internet is reporting this, this is diustubing and worrying. Please can someone answer for me. Thank you. X

I am sure if you look hard enough somewhere on the internet they are discussing this.

Bluewavescrashing · 03/04/2020 22:58

You OK hun?

Paintforkitchen · 03/04/2020 22:59

Erm it is being reported and presumably that’s how you know about it?

Helenshielding · 03/04/2020 23:01

Huh?

FlibbertyGiblets · 03/04/2020 23:02

The short answer is we don't know. Guesses can be made - underlying conditions for example - but we simply don't know enough to say why that person and not this person

I'm sorry it is such a vague answer.

Yallreadyforthis · 03/04/2020 23:03

OP
They've closed the whole country down because of this.
I think people ARE discussing this...?

isabellerossignol · 03/04/2020 23:04

I don't know where you've been but people are definitely discussing this...

Spacerader · 03/04/2020 23:04

Your post doesnt make sense we are all well aware that perfectly healthy peoole are dying of this. It's no secret

PickAChew · 03/04/2020 23:06

There is nothing to say that it doesn't kill young, healthy people, just that older and less healthy people are more likely to die.

Goddess1234 · 03/04/2020 23:07

Celledora, thank you. Sorry everyone, I properly sound like a crazy woman. I think its got to me the past few weeks. I'm trying to stay grounded. My parents are both in there 70s and just worried about them.

wonderstuff · 03/04/2020 23:07

It's much more contagious than flu. That's the major issue. It's not that its more deadly, it's that the numbers of people getting it are huge, no one has immunity, the risk is to the nhs.

waterlego · 03/04/2020 23:08

I think the OP is aware that CV is being discussed widely but is struggling to understand why seemingly healthy people are dying from the illness.

Goddess, you sound very anxious- many of us are. I think there are lots of points to consider as to why seemingly healthy people die of the disease. I think it’s quite complicated but I am reading my way through lots of different sources to try to gain an understanding. Neither statistics nor science are my forte so I don’t want to try to explain anything in case I get it wrong, but so do know there are some very knowledgeable people here on MN and I hope some of them will see your post and give you some good information to help you understand. 💐

Welcometothequiz · 03/04/2020 23:08

Fuck me, it's wall to wall discussion on pretty much every channel on the planet - have you just arrived in a time machine from the 1980's?

SleepingStandingUp · 03/04/2020 23:08

Do you mean why aren't we specifically discussing why healthy people are dying?

Because they might have an underlying issue they didn't know about

Because people are healthy until they're not and there's no accurate way of foretelling how any single virus or bug will affect any one individual

Genetically there's so much we dint understand. Maybe all the healthy dying have a tiny mutation in common that would never have affected them unless thry got pneumonia or similar like Clovid19

But you're being ridiculous if you think you're the oy person discussing thix and everyone else is in Denial or ignoring it. Two (comparatively) young healthy nurses just died. People are taking about it

LastTrainEast · 03/04/2020 23:09

Goddess1234 are you thinking it's something sinister like divine retribution or alien attack? If so you can be sure that while this is a new strain it's a perfectly normal virus of a type we are generally familiar with.

This is not even the first time people have died from viruses on a large scale (Google historical pandemics) and not even the worst we have faced.

Welcometothequiz · 03/04/2020 23:09

Sorry I take that back if you are feeling anxious - sorry Flowers

FlibbertyGiblets · 03/04/2020 23:09

Goddess we're all capable of feeling a bit wibbly. Have a (distanced) pat on the shoulder.

Bluewavescrashing · 03/04/2020 23:10

Can I use the time machine to go back to 1994 please?

wonderstuff · 03/04/2020 23:12

95% of people won't need a hospital admission and of those who go to hospital 75% should recover. To the individual the risk is quite low, but to the nhs, if hundreds of thousands or millions even get sick at the same time, there won't be enough beds, equipment or medics.

HeddaGarbled · 03/04/2020 23:12

I agree, it’s a massive secret, not heard it mentioned at all. Thank goodness you’ve found out about it and alerted us.

Blossomad · 03/04/2020 23:15

If you are anxious try and feel confident about your approach to the virus. Make an assessment as to how vulnerable your family members are. Make sure you are up to date with any medication and procedures for escalation of intervention if your dc has asthma / heart condition etc.
Be assertive with health care providers but always be polite and respectful. Do everything you can to make slack members of your family to follow pandemic regulations. Some people just don’t get it unfortunately and need to be told.

waterlego · 03/04/2020 23:15

Oh for goodness sake, the OP is obviously anxious. A bit of kindness doesn’t go amiss. 😕

FlibbertyGiblets · 03/04/2020 23:16
