@MurrayTheMonk I think you are bloody amazing And you are not paid nearly enough. Thanks Thanks

mac12 · 05/04/2020 22:56

Re cats, dogs, and now tigers getting it. Should we be thinking about controls for livestock? I’m not farmer or vet - is anyone on here? I know China culled pets & I think also thousands of pigs in January (not sure if that was another recent swine flu thing...)
I would rather our govt got ahead of any threat to livestock & food chain - insert your own herd immunity pun here - rather than Ferguson & his pals at Imperial making the same kind of mistakes they did with foot & mouth.

SomeLady · 05/04/2020 22:57

This might sound crazy mac12 but maybe we could just stop eating them?

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 23:00

@MurrayTheMonk I concur, I’ve been reading your comments for weeks now and you’re a hero in my eyes. I have no idea how you muster the strength to carry on, but thank you.

♥️

mac12 · 05/04/2020 23:08

@somelady it wasn’t so much the eating of them, it’s more than the wholesale slaughter & burning pyres of infected cattle carcasses I’d like to avoid. Ferguson’s models would have culled millions of healthy animals during F&M crisis had Sir David King not stepped in.
I’d rather we asked questions now, put some controls in place if deemed necessary, to avoid unnecessary infection later down the road.

DarnedSocks · 05/04/2020 23:08

maybe we should stop eating them
We certainly would've avoided this Covid-19 pandemic if we didn't eat them.

DarnedSocks · 05/04/2020 23:12

The NHS is a mess because of both Conservatives and Labour. Both are responsible. Labour saddled us with PFI. Both parties are to blame.

istherelifeafter40 · 05/04/2020 23:16

Blair started the PFI; but we have had conservative government for over 10 years now; it is a very very long time.

There's been a few rumours all day about how bad Johnson is from political twitter.

Johnson appearing on the doorstep on Thursday looked like he'd just got out of bed for it and it was a move to reassure the country he was OK still. I believe the announcement of the Queens speech was around then too (it was pre recorded so could be used whenever it was felt most appropriate).

I find the queen's speech broadcasting at 8pm and the Downing Street announcement almost exactly an hour later at 9.10pm that the PM was being hospitalised very striking.

I don't know if its coincidence. (I'm generally not a big believer in that in politics). It almost looks chorographed so our head of state gave reassuring words as our prime minister is taken to hospital.

It could well be that a couple of days ago they were starting to have concerns with his ongoing symptoms and inability to end isolation so started contingency planning deciding that he should go to hospital today as a precaution if he still wasn't improving as he would be heading towards a point where they would be getting concerned that he was at risk of deterioration anyway. A planned exit to hospital rather than an emergency one is a lot better in terms of both national security and in terms of preventing panic within the country.

So yes. I do think that those close to the PM like Hancock probably knew how things were going to pan out this evening.

It's just a little too convenient otherwise.

RedToothBrush · 05/04/2020 23:19

I know China culled pets & I think also thousands of pigs in January (not sure if that was another recent swine flu thing...)

There was a swine flu outbreak in China in January / February.

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 23:20

We can argue about shoulda woulda couldas with the NHS politics all day long, the crux of the matter is that we are in this mess regardless, our PM is incapacitated during an National crisis.

LabConDem they’re all to blame in someway or another, we need to move on from this and address the issues at hand.

SomeLady · 05/04/2020 23:20

I don't really remember the foot and mouth thing but that seems a sensible approach to either mass kill or quarantine ? They won't be testing sheep

AutumnRose1 · 05/04/2020 23:20

One of my pneumonia attacks came on so fast, I was dressing up for a night out and then had to lie down and my then flatmate called the emergency doctor. I don’t remember much about it.

So anything could have happened really.

AutumnRose1 · 05/04/2020 23:21

If anything I think they’d have preferred to release the info later than they did, I don’t know.

middleager · 05/04/2020 23:24

That's terrifying Autumn

I'm trying to process it all this evening, but the truth is stranger than fiction right now.

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 23:25

Red something is off with this whole set up that is for sure, I think you could be right there. Why would the queens speech be on at 8pm? It made no sense at all, it’s a Sunday and majority of non essential people are off work, it could have been at 4,5 even 6pm.

HM at 8pm? Odd, very odd.

Wehttam · 05/04/2020 23:27

I think the person who started the Is BJ ok? thread may have had a tip off, pure speculation but it was timed very well.

AutumnRose1 · 05/04/2020 23:29

middle yes, and I was 25. I think the fever made me delirious.

The second time was better, I had more warning. But I think pneumonia manifests in all kinds of weird ways. And the second time, the tablets were better - the first lot made feel utterly surreal, I felt like I was toxic and the doctor said “that’s because you are, that’s how the tablets are busy killing it”. She made me feel a bit of a plum 😂

I can’t imagine trying to work though. I had a phased return to work both times.

I think the 8pm speech was about sunset time, they were hoping for a bigger audience than at 5pm.

RedToothBrush · 05/04/2020 23:29

No I think 8pm Sunday for the Queen isn't a bad time slot. It's after Country File and Antiques Roadshow. It's kind of where I'd expect it to be rather than just after Pointless or catch point on a Saturday.

It could still be coordinated in a precautionary fashion though.

AutumnRose1 · 05/04/2020 23:30

I do agree about the thread and the tip off, yes.

mrshoho · 05/04/2020 23:30

As soon as he entered the hospital news would have got out so this way they get to release an announcement on their terms. It is being down played with the line 'admitted for tests as a precaution'. They'll be checking lung function, ecg for heart, blood tests for secondary infections. It could be that he will need one of the valued ventilators to allow his body to rest. And you're right Aurumn I've seen the speed of pneumonia and how scary for all concerned.

RedToothBrush · 05/04/2020 23:36

order-order.com/2020/04/05/how-ill-is-boris/
HOW ILL IS BORIS REALLY?

Guido has been hearing for the last week that he’s not in great shape, Guido has not been able to verify the rumour that Boris had pneumonia as a child, which might suggest he is susceptible to respiratory infections. Downing Street has been a cluster for coronavirus with even “Downing Street Sources” going down with it…

Time stamped at 9.20am this morning.

A tiger at New York City’s Bronx Zoo has tested positive for the coronavirus, in the first known case of Covid-19 in an animal in the US, a zoo spokesman told Reuters on Sunday.

“We tested the cat out of an abundance of caution and will ensure any knowledge we gain about Covid-19 will contribute to the world’s continuing understanding of this novel coronavirus,” the Wildlife Conservation Society, which manages the zoo, said in a statement.
