Hospital admissions have been slowing every week and some areas showing reductions in numbers now, suggesting they may be past peak x

@Jrobhatch29 that's great news! Thank you for sharing

Bunnyflop · 18/04/2020 09:33

@jrobhatch29 that is awesome news! However I do wonder if it would go back up if we all came out of lockdown- wish we knew how we would get out of this mess.

Noooblerooble · 18/04/2020 10:35

I know it's scary but there's lots we can do to stop that.

This is from the Spectator. Masks could help significantly. I will definitely be wearing one. So could the app several countries are developing where they track who likely has the virus and notify people who come into close contact with others (and get them to then quarantine to stop spread). That is a similar thing to what Germany is doing already and it keeps numbers much lower. Plus we will all instinctively keep our distance from eachother after this while queuing etc so that will lower numbers too. And the ZOE research suggests far fewer people now have the virus than a month ago and by the time we are let out again that number will be even lower. So we can track it much more easily and contain outbreaks as they do occur.

I don't know why the press is choosing to go with the line of 'there is no exit strategy, we will be in lockdown forever' when there are lots of weapons in our armoury to fight this. It's baffling me. I don't feel everything will be fine and dandy but it's not the case we're just sitting ducks unless we all lock ourselves away

@Noooblerooble

I personally think the reporting errs on the pessimistic side so people don't think oooo things are getting back to normal and start becoming complacent re social distancing etc

Just my theory!

Noooblerooble · 18/04/2020 10:40

Jrob that's so good to see, thank you

It's cloudy here but I am getting on with some work. I have nothing much else to report but I'm hanging in there. I'm hoping to skype several friends tonight as a distraction. I really enjoyed the National Theatre's Treasure Island last night. The sets are incredible so watch it if you like the theatre!

Noooblerooble · 18/04/2020 10:42

Just my theory!

Yes I think I agree with you there. Bearing in mind I was lying in bed the other night struggling badly with wanting to die off the back of reading some bad news I am really not sure it's such a good strategy. There's a balance to be had between terrifying people into staying in and giving them some hope. It must be hard to get it right though.

Bunnyflop · 18/04/2020 10:44

I think the press is always negative because bad news keeps people hooked. The drama, the fear, they keep people coming back for more in the hope of new positive developments.

We each have a mask in our house and we will wear them.

Wasn’t there supposed to be a tracking app in our country? What happened to that?

Pinkarsedfly · 18/04/2020 10:45

Today I am going to repaint the garden gnome that my grandad made just before he died, 37 years ago.

It’s nearly Grandad’s birthday so it’s time Norman had a spruce up.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/04/2020 10:52

I think that's true about the media. Remember Brexit and how they kept going on about 'X will happen in the case of a no deal Brexit"- kind of similar in a way. Catastrophising, it would be called in CBT.

BuggaLugga · 18/04/2020 11:08

The press always go with worse case scenario. Not good for the anxious amongst us!

Millie2013 · 18/04/2020 11:31

Morning all
Brrr, it’s freexing here, I managed to do the ponies without getting too cold, then I took my mum to pick up some plants and compost from the back of a van and got cold queueing. Had to stand in a hot shower to warm up and mum’s just cooked me a lovely hot brunch
Heating on and I’m in comfy clothes and fluffy socks. Glam

DD and mum are making scones for the neighbours ❤️ I might tidy round then do some crafting while we watch Peter Rabbit

Love to all 💕

maria860 · 18/04/2020 12:54

Feeling a lot more anxious today then other days my chest feels tight and wheezy it's been like that on and off for a few weeks now.
My partner got laid off yesterday from work told not to bother going back he's in construction so that's a blow with worry as he stayed off for my benefit so i feel guilty he's lost his job because of me.

DianneWhatcock · 18/04/2020 13:10

@maria860 sorry to hear that

It's a worry isn't it my h is in house building, he's in the project management side so he's "furloughed" at the moment. But I really worry the potential effect on his job and industry

DianneWhatcock · 18/04/2020 13:12

@Orangeblossom78 @Bunnyflop

Deffo agree re the news catastrophising

@nooblerooble I'm sorry to hear you were so bad recently that's so rubbish x hugs

DianneWhatcock · 18/04/2020 13:13

@Bunnyflop

Do you mean the ZOE app? I am on that and I'm recording symptoms every day (well lack of -
Thank goodness)

I can't link to it I don't know how ...maybe someone else can that's not useless with technology

Pinkarsedfly · 18/04/2020 13:18

My teen boys just put on Chitty Chitty Bang bang and we are all watching it together, unprompted and reminds me of when they were small.

Bunnyflop · 18/04/2020 13:38

@Pinkarsedfly Norman looks great for his makeover! He’s like a new man!

@DianneWhatcock ah is that it. Might be good if it was government policy for everyone to use that!

tobee · 18/04/2020 14:40

Just been catching up with these posts after being off the thread for a few days.

Hoping everyone is well.

It really poured hard with rain last night and I thought we haven't had rain in ages. I was trying to remember if we'd had a loads of rain in the winter. We did didn't we? It's seems like another world remembering last winter. Of course, some parts had floods but that seems like sooooo long ago!

@Pinkarsedfly Norman looks fab now - love him, well done.

I’ve plucked up courage to take the dog out for a much needed walk this afternoon and literally didn’t see a soul - so it was fine. It was cold but the fresh air was good and the dog enjoyed it.
I’ve tidied out the fridge and kitchen tins cupboards. Adult Ds 2 has just gone to the supermarket so hoping he won’t have to wait long to get in. Had a great delivery from the butchers earlier so it’s burgers for tea - with new potato’s and salad.
I’ve accidentally signed up to amazon prime 😂- so I’ve just logged into amazon TV which we will all find useful!
I’ve also found out some hairdressing scissors from when the kids were little and am going to attack my fringe later... Will need a box colour for my roots very soon, Havent coloured my own hair since I was 19, so that will be interesting.

M0reGinPlease · 18/04/2020 16:29

Well I've just been asked to sign funding forms for preschool for the summer term at the local councils request, so there is clearly hope of a return to school at some point!

I think cautious optimism is a good thing but I really think we're getting there.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but you're all a really lovely bunch of people. Can we keep a generic 'positive mental health' thread going after all this is over and just ignore the rest of MN and keep our little corner of the Internet lovely?

DianneWhatcock · 18/04/2020 16:37

@M0reGinPlease that's such great news about the school forms

I'd deffo be up for being in a general positive MH thread with all you lot. Honestly you've all got no idea how much it's helped me

Bunnyflop · 18/04/2020 16:39

@M0reGinPlease absolutely, I said a couple of threads ago that I’d set one up under mental health when this is all over- unless anyone suggests a different forum. Would be lovely to all keep talking.

Me and ds just went for a half hour walk. He didn’t want to go but I knew he could use the exercise. I’m finding it easier and less tiring in general to do these walks and I’ll keep extending the length to try and kick the fibromyalgia’s arse. I spent some time on the curable app today and found it illuminating.

Not sure what to do about one of my medications- I’m not sure if it’s caused weight gain or if I’ve been eating more than i used to. It most definitely causes chronic tummy trouble though and I’m having to take several doses of laxative a day to be able to go- but it has helped me cope a lot better. Dunno what to do.

Noooblerooble · 18/04/2020 17:09

I'd love to keep chatting too

I love Norman. And bless you tobee you can't be a dog owner Grin It was like the bloody Somme all winter, it was so wet. I actually think I cried at one point because i'd had to wash my dog so many times and the house was still covered in mud and I was knackered BlushGrin

I saw my neighbour again whose husband works at a big London hospital. Both admissions and intubations are declining noticeably. It is so good knowing that.

I got some good work done today and went for a nice walk. I'm planning on working out this eve and having a long soaky bath.

I am going to namechange at some point so if I disappear, I haven't really. I can share a bit more freely under a new name.
