Sounds sanity saving rather than nuts Bunny.

Orangeblossom78 · 15/04/2020 16:40

Sounds a good plan (garden centre) if it works and makes you happy too surely that's a win-win? Flowers

I am thinking of buying a bike, maybe a fold up one. Any idea where I could get one; could it be click and collect perhaps?

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 17:03

2,657 beds available in critical care in NHS currently (Matt Hancock speaking now).

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 17:04

Is Matt Hancock not too much of a knob or do I have Stockholm syndrome?

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 17:15

Curve is flattening

Bunnyflop · 15/04/2020 17:16

I’ve placed an order for verbena, lavender, compost and hanging basket plants. Have told dh that he has to come and help put it all in the car and he’s not best pleased! Oh well.

Henry is having some pak choi and our butterflies have hatched!

I've just dared Mail Online (yes, I know!) only to check Captain Tom's total and he has now passed £6 million. Apparently, The JustGiving site keeps crashing because so many people are trying to donate.

That is fantastic!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/04/2020 17:23

Your butteries are glorious BunnyFlop!

Bunnyflop · 15/04/2020 17:36

@arcadia was it a more positive press conference today then?

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 17:41

@Bunnyflop it does seem to be in terms of the stats.

Lots of questions around care homes, quite rightly.

They appear to be getting on the case with testing (but a bit late).

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 17:44

Fall in people in hospital beds yesterday 5% in London and 1% elsewhere

M0reGinPlease · 15/04/2020 17:55

I'm finding all the data a bit baffling really. Why such a focus on death rates and hospital admissions and no discussion of transmission rates or new infections? Has the whole lockdown been to wholly protect the NHS?

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 17:57

@M0reGinPlease yes, because it will not just disappear and we're not close to a vaccine yet so it's about managing the flow of cases into the hospitals.

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 17:58

They said the data is not quite there yet to measure the current transmission rates but they believe it is now between 0.5 and 1 whereas before the lockdown it was more like 2 or more.

M0reGinPlease · 15/04/2020 17:59

But surely if transmission rates are low enough it will burn itself out? I thought the UK transmission rate was below 1, but the government's strategy seems to be to bury any remotely good news so as to terrify us all into compliance. I thought they had a pretty good grip on this to begin with but I'm less and less impressed by them.

M0reGinPlease · 15/04/2020 18:00

They said the data is not quite there yet to measure the current transmission rates

Because we've done naff all on the testing front!

M0reGinPlease · 15/04/2020 18:01

Not meaning to rant at you @Arcadia I'm just frustrated by it all now.

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 18:01

Sadly I think if they are too positive people won't stick to the lockdown

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 18:02

Don't worry @M0reGinPlease I didn't take it like that!

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 18:03

The testing situation is ridiculous! So many people I know (including BF teacher who is keyworker herself teaching keyworkers kids!) have had suspected CV and no access to testing.

Arcadia · 15/04/2020 18:08

@Bunnyflop I think it's great to support a garden centre at the moment!

Orangeblossom78 · 15/04/2020 18:16

Just ordered some soaps and essentials like toothpaste from online to send to my mum who is in a very remote place. Her bus stopped running so she can;t get to the bus at all.

In cobbling together support for her she now has a nice lady from the local greengrocers in town who delivers to her cottages nearby anyway and is going to bring veg, fruit eggs and bread and a milkman. All this will be helpful in future for winters there.

So it seems this has been helpful in a way. It is beautiful here today in the SW and do glad to hear the sombrero is flattening etc

Bunnyflop · 15/04/2020 18:24

@orangeblossom78 I’m glad your mum will have some things she needs!

I agree about the lack of good news- they’re probably hesitant to give any lest it result in everyone being out and about. Better to keep everyone afraid and compliant.

BooseysMom · 15/04/2020 18:28

@Bunnyflop..i am taking the advice you gave earlier to a pp who had done what i did and got depressed by the news so i'm in a bubble bath with chocolate! I heard the daily briefing on the radio and Matt Hancock was saying how awful it was that the 13 year old boy Ishmail had to die alone and no family could be there at his funeral. Well that was it, i had had a good few days but this made me break down and DH had to take over the dinner. How Matt delivered that without breaking down himself i'll never know.
So thank you bunny and everyone for just being here on this thread. It helps so much x

Spudlet · 15/04/2020 18:40

@BooseysMom I’ve just had a quiet little weep about that as well. Heartbreaking. That poor, poor family.
