From the BBC website.

Words fail me.

Oh for fucks sake China. A sponsored video came up on my Facebook feed last night for a Asian animal charity. It was a freshly liberated moon bear, frolicking in water with joy I've rarely ever seen. It had spent it's life until then in a bile farm. It absolutely broke me.
China needs to have a long hard look at itself. It's practices with animals have caused this. It's unlikely to cure it.

cinammonbuns · 02/04/2020 11:43

@KonTikki but battery hens are kept in tiny cages their entire lives and are constantly farmed for their eggs?

Just a different farming method to get a product from an animal.

UYScuti · 02/04/2020 11:46

Perhaps this is the Chinese version of homoeopathy/hair of the dog
the problem was caused by inflicting despicable cruelty upon wild animals therefore the problem must be curable by inflicting despicable cruel upon wild animals?

UYScuti · 02/04/2020 11:48

this is China doubling down, telling the world we don't care what you think about our practices we don't care about the damage inflicted upon the rest of the world, we will do as we please regardless.
Furthermore we will suck it up because we want cheap products.

PamelaPupkin · 02/04/2020 11:49

I don’t eat foie gras. It’s no more excusable than what China do to their animals @Smilethoyourheartisbreaking. Not sure who you think is saying it is.

Holothane · 02/04/2020 11:50

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮😀🥵🥵🥵horrific, just that disgusting.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 02/04/2020 11:50

Well it’s China what do people expect from them?

LastTrainEast · 02/04/2020 11:50

ChardonnaysPetDragon lol It's a conspiracy theory that the Chinese did it on purpose.

rosiethehen · 02/04/2020 11:51

Expect a pandemic around every ten years at this rate.

OnTheMoors · 02/04/2020 11:52

There need to be sanctions for this ongoing cruelty

I haven't read all the replies in this thread, but in case it hasn't been pointed out, remember many of you are taking HRT that comes from mare's urine. Premarin. Do you know how that is obtained? By putting pregnant mares in tiny cubicles for months, to collect their urine. Yup. Pretty cruel and horrible.

campion · 02/04/2020 12:14

The final 5 minutes of this episode of The Food Programme on Radio 4 is rather chilling in its explanation of how these zoonotic diseases happen and how they will continue to happen unless the world, and especially China, get their act together.

I didn't know that China's wildlife supply chain is now worldwide and that, therefore, many animals are now mixing with species alien to them.

I'd like to think China was doing something about this, but judging by this report on Bear bile, I'm not holding my breath.

ThePlantsitter · 02/04/2020 12:16

Can you link to the article OP? I can't find it. Without the source this thread just looks like racist reactionism.

FloofenHoofen · 02/04/2020 12:23

@BilboBercow you obviously have no idea how it's extracted do you. Stupid comment to make.

campion · 02/04/2020 12:25

I read it on the BBC news feed about an hour ago but it seems to have rather mysteriously disappeared.
Plenty of information about bear bile and its cruelty though.

Here it is!

ThePlantsitter · 02/04/2020 12:35

Great, thanks campion. Now the thread looks very slightly less like racist reactionism.

BovaryX · 02/04/2020 12:35

The usual litany of apologists, false equivalence, desperate whataboutery that litters every single thread about this topic. Those who excuse, justify and try to distract from abhorrent animal cruelty? I wonder about their motives.

PamelaPupkin · 02/04/2020 12:49

@BovaryX pathetic isn’t it. There are some scary people about.

BovaryX · 02/04/2020 12:56

Pamela

There is a recurrent theme of relentless whataboutery on every single thread on this topic. It's very interesting.....

If anyone is interested in finding out more then I strongly suggest supporting the work of this charity who directly rescue bears from farms in China and Vietnam

For fuck’s SAKE! This entire crisis started because of people who see animals as resources to exploit instead of as individuals who should be left alone. Absolutely disgraceful decision.

This!
