Yes you get the big hit sooner

But this way we feel the effect of a better lockdown earlier

Delatron · 03/04/2020 17:39

Yes I did @SansaSnark
He said ‘I can answer both those questions and then completely forgot the question.

It’s such a stressful job and he seemed to rush back quickly in to the limelight.

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 17:41

I agree with your interpretation being right but I think he needs a carrot for people getting through first peak

Second one will be worse for a bunch of reasons but I don’t think we can handle that yet. You see on here people talking about post- lock down and thinking it’s a one off

Loads will be thinking the same. Except us cos we know more (jesting slightly)

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 17:42

Yeah, he must be under pressure from all angles, but I think it sets a bad example to be out when still unwell.

I hope that he does get some rest over the weekend.

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 17:43

@MarshaBradyo I do understand that he may be thinking of getting people through this first lockdown, which I know has been tough for a lot of people.

A London-based doctor who ignored orders to self-isolate after showing Covid-19 symptoms has been found dead at his flat in Germany, causing concern he could have infected other people on his journey from the UK.

The 58-year-old, who worked in London as a locum doctor, was told to self isolate on 19 March after developing coronavirus symptoms, but was not tested.

Instead on 25 March the man travelled to Berlin where he owns a flat.

Last week the doctor reportedly told his relative he was still experiencing symptoms. He failed to respond to calls after last Friday, and his body was discovered at his Berlin home on Sunday.

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 18:04

That's tragic and concerning on a lot of levels Sad

Pishposhpashy · 03/04/2020 18:06

Honestly a lot of doctors I know are being a lot more blase than the ones I've seen on social media. My sister's boyfriend (A&E doctor) is still insisting it is absolutely fine for him to come and visit my sister (she lives at my mum's). My mum hasn't allowed it of course.

People are dying rapidly from this thing. One minute they're ok

Abraid2 · 03/04/2020 18:07

I didn't think Matt H looked that bad, actually. It's the end of a long week.

He certainly looks a lot fitter than Boris.

Doctor's are human just like the rest of us. You get lots of idiots just like in any other cohort of people.

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 18:16

Hearing these stories I’m not convinced re people would have died anyway. Yes they may be outliers but they seem more of a chunk in size.

People can die rapidly from this illness because it causes breathing problems. My airways were blocked after I'd had symptoms for 5/6 days when I developed sputum, which my coughing didn't get rid of and I'd become too exhausted to get rid of. I actually felt as if I was losing consciousness and my DH called 999. The paramedics talked him through how to help me, various ways to remove the sputum so I could breathe more freely.

In the end, he nursed me through this time, but I've been thinking since then how it could be a different story for someone living alone. I wasn't in a fit state to help myself at all without the help of my DH and the paramedics he spoke to.

Mittens030869 · 03/04/2020 18:25

Oops, I didn't think it had posted so I tried again. Blush

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 18:31

@Mittens030869 That sounds really unpleasant, glad that you got through it.

I suppose if you lived alone, you might have presented to A and E or phoned paramedics sooner? Or did it come on very suddenly?

Mittens030869 · 03/04/2020 18:43

I'd been struggling to breathe for a day or so, but it got worse very suddenly. I couldn't have driven, but I could have called 999, if I'd realised what was happening quickly enough and acted. In these days with mobiles it is easier than it would have been in the past.

I do think about much more elderly people, though. I was able to get through it because I was able to fight for breath and eventually find the strength to cough, but I had to really fight, and I also wasn't alone.

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 18:45

Mittens gosh that is scary, I’m glad you’re ok

Helenj1977 · 03/04/2020 18:46

@Mittens030869 Thank goodness you're OK. That must have been awful 💐

Namechangervaver · 03/04/2020 18:46

Mittens030869 that sounds terrifying. Thank god you had a DP to nurse you through it

Mittens030869 · 03/04/2020 18:52

Thank you, yes it was really scary. The worst part was that when my DH was on the phone, I heard him telling the paramedics that I was asleep, so they thought that meant I was breathing okay. I wasn't, I was fighting to keep breathing and not to become unconscious. But I couldn't talk so I was unable to tell him.

But I came through it, unlike so many others.

WhyNotMe40 · 03/04/2020 18:52

Mittens that is very scary! I remember passing out once when I couldn't breathe due to mucus from tonsillitis and it was terrifying! Luckily the mucus must have shifted as I fell to the floor....

Can I ask what the paramedics asked your DP to do? I wonder if this is something we should all know just in case.

slartibarti · 03/04/2020 18:53

Mittens what a horrible experience, it sounds like people need to be basically fit and healthy to be able to fight it.
