I think we are seeing. pattern in the figures (maybe due to weekend reporting)? The death rate seems to flatten off over the weekend and Monday and all the press claim the measures are working! Hurrah. Then we have an adjustment/catch up for the rest of the week and the figures look awful.

What is everyones thoughts on this?

I can't see it - it's attached but too small to read

NettleTea · 03/04/2020 16:43

what is happening with carers in the home. My elderly MIL is very frail - has parkinsons and mainly bed bound, but sits and shuffles a bit. FIL has dementia. He has 2 visits a day and MIL has at least 4, many with 2 of them. They also have a cleaner weekly, and nursing staff.

her GP maintains this is safer than going in a care home although I have a horrible suspicion that its so she doesnt leave her own home. He basically told her to stay put as she will die if she gets it. To which she replied 'well Im taking HIM (rather difficult/abusive FIL) with me if Im going'

But my colleague who lives on the farm says she has only seen one going in with a mask

Jrobhatch29 · 03/04/2020 16:43

Is that better?

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 03/04/2020 16:49

Much better, ta!

That suggestion looks pretty realistic to me. What's it from?

Jrobhatch29 · 03/04/2020 16:56

I just came across it when i was stalking boris johnsons twitter ha. I assumed if there was more asymtomatic cases found it would have reduced the ratios of severe cases and critical x

DarnedSocks · 03/04/2020 16:58

NettleTea That's terrible. I'm so shocked care staff aren't being provided with PPE. To protect them as well as those they're caring for. All I can suggest is trying to buy it yourself for your PIL's carers but I appreciate that might be too costly.

Delatron · 03/04/2020 17:05

Press conference already annoying me! Look how amazing we are building a new hospital so quickly.

Well why can’t you get correct PPE out so quickly!

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 17:15

Matt Hancock sounds quite strange today- stumbled over a lot of words. I think he is still ill, and shouldn't be out yet =/

That diagram is really interesting but it raises lots of questions and needs more explanation. Would like to know more about it.

Delatron · 03/04/2020 17:27

Yes I thought Matt sounded better yesterday.
Not like him to stumble over words. I think this virus can go away then come back if you over do it. Hope he gets some rest this weekend.

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 17:33

Not sure about what Matt has just said, "The more we stay at home, the faster we get through this."

If we flatten the curve successfully, it will take longer to get through it, although we might see an early peak and a long tail.

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 17:34

He said that yesterday it means we peak earlier.

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 17:34

I thought the same but then he explained it.

Delatron · 03/04/2020 17:35

True SansaSnark lockdown will ease the pressure on the NHS but it will lengthen this whole process.

He doesn’t seem quite as on it today!

Delatron · 03/04/2020 17:36

We don’t peak earlier though if we stay at home?

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 17:36

Peaking earlier isn't the same as getting through it faster, though- because if they let people back outside as normal, then we'll see another peak, otherwise we have to keep distancing and have a long tail.

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 17:37

I think we do? We start to see the effects sooner and more strongly

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 17:37

Yes just this peak faster

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 17:37

@Delatron I was quite surprised when he forgot one of the questions he had been asked.

Delatron · 03/04/2020 17:38

Ok, I thought if you let the virus run through the population and didn’t enforce lockdown then the peak would come earlier.

SansaSnark · 03/04/2020 17:39

@MarshaBradyo but if we let people back out shortly after we have peaked it will start a new wave of infections- that may be part of the plan, but doesn't mean that we "get through it faster".

I see what you are saying, but I think he phrased it poorly.
