Anyone watching BBC news? "Sam's a gardener" what in his tracks suit and no gardening tools or gloves etc? Ffs.

defthand · 26/03/2020 18:05

As of 9am on 26 March 2020, a total of 104,866 people have been tested, of which 93,208 were confirmed negative and 11,658 were confirmed positive.

As of 5pm on 25 March 2020, 578 patients in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

AvocadoOwl · 26/03/2020 18:06

Italy will over take China for cases tomorrow 😢

The US might well beat the Italians to it.

defthand · 26/03/2020 18:07

+2129 cases
+115 deaths (up til 5pm yesterday)

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 26/03/2020 18:08

I don't remember our borders being shut when BSE/vCJD originated here either (though admitted prion rather than virus)

RedToothBrush · 26/03/2020 18:10

Doh did tweet that today's figures include a slight adjustment as yesterday's figures didn't cover a 24 hr period.

They now will be 5pm to 5pm daily.

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/03/2020 18:14

I thought those odd figures yesterday were from 1pm to 8pm or something? On the 25th?
So are these figures just a tweaking of those? In case we wanted to be even more bamboozled?

defthand · 26/03/2020 18:15

“As of 5pm on 25 March, of those hospitalised in the UK, 578 have sadly died.”

Does this mean they’re not counting people who die at home or in nursing homes going forward?

Helenj1977 · 26/03/2020 18:16

Holy shit.

CricketCrocket · 26/03/2020 18:17

So they won’t be counted that poor mum who died at home or the man from Marks and Sparks who died alone in his home?

Calmonthesurfacebut · 26/03/2020 18:17

Day 9. Not posted as been trying to WFH, what would normally take an hour is taking 2 - It’s like brain fog.

Woke this morning feeling good, but now am coughing almost constantly. Still no temp. DH is okay, just spaced out dd okay so far.

We need testing as if it isn’t he can go back to work, I wouldn’t be so worried about dd.

Good news about self employed, although don’t feel well enough to look at the details.

mrshoho · 26/03/2020 18:32

@defthand where was that posted?

mrshoho · 26/03/2020 18:40

Thanks @defthand Do they normally word the update differently? Are they classing the dead bodies being removed from people's homes as being hospitalised when they arrive at the mortuary??? That wording needs clarifying.

eeeyoresmiles · 26/03/2020 18:40

@ofwarrent sorry to hear you're ill. I've been failing to keep up with these threads (or any threads), just dipping in randomly. I hope you feel better very soon and your ds skips it.

LittleRen · 26/03/2020 18:40

How can they include people who don't die in hospitals - as surely a post mortem would need to be done to confirm Covid was the cause if someone died at home or in a nursing home? Unless they had been tested then gone home, then gone home and became very poorly.

The mother who died at home had suspected Covid 19. Not official. As sad as it is, these people won't be counted in the official figures.. as it isn't official (yet).

eeeyoresmiles · 26/03/2020 18:42

ofwarren, not offwarent

LeeMiller · 26/03/2020 18:42

Civil protection on rise in new cases.in Italy: hypothesis is an accumulation of results of tests from the last few days.

Not sure how long it is taking between the test and the results.

SunshineCake · 26/03/2020 18:44

I don't understand this thread topics obsession with the death toll numbers. As soon as we knew this was here and were told people would die we should all have stayed at home and upped the hand washing as much as possible. We knew more than a handful would die and should have known anyone of us could get it.

I'm in bed and have been for the last couple of days. I have had symptoms for over a week. In theory I could go out as the seven days has passed - if we weren't all supposed to stay in for three weeks - but even if I felt well I wouldn't be. We are all responsible for our own health and shouldn't need telling. It is like when people ask what the law is on car seats and if you have a really tall nine year old they don't need a booster. I don't care what the law says. I'm having a seat for my child. Therefore I'm staying in as much as possible past the seven days, the fourteen days, the three month. I have asthma but even if I didn't I still would.

So far my symptoms are relatively mild but I'm still unable to do much. Like many mums I carry on even when poorly but there is no chance of that now.

So many other threads on here show people don't get it. They are still going out. They think the rules don't apply to them and it means we will all suffer longer and harder because of it.

defthand · 26/03/2020 18:46

@mrshoho

I’ve never seen them use that wording before, no. Given they are changing reporting time etc I wondered if it was another change. We can expect many deaths to occur in nursing homes, for example, and I can see the government wishing to exclude them from the stats (inappropriately IMO).

But it might just be careless wording?

CharlieTangoBanana · 26/03/2020 18:51

@ofwarren sending love to you and your familyThanks

DemelzaRobins · 26/03/2020 18:54

Self-employed do pay national insurance, but at a lower rate to employees. They get fewer contributory benefits though - employees get JSA and SE don't. Both get State Pension.

NI contributions pay for contributory benefits like State Pension and contributory ESA, but a sizeable chunk goes to the NHS.

Horehound · 26/03/2020 18:55

@SunshineCake they are interesting because it gives us an idea of how good or bad the country will get it. Not sure what's hard to understand about that?

mrshoho · 26/03/2020 18:56

Hope one of the journalists will pick up on it and ask Jenny or Chris tomorrow. It could just be these poor souls are now in the mortuary back log waiting for testing to confirm covid before being added on to figures. This is grim.
