Sorry. I'll step away from the capitals. I just had to vent my anger. No war wanted here, I'm just very cross.

💐

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/03/2020 17:20

Highs?
Those figures are for the people officially "cured"
.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 26/03/2020 17:21

I've been self-employed for 20 years give or take a couple. I pay NI as required but get very little in return - eg no SSP, holiday pay blah blah. I assume it is going towards my pension, which I now can't claim til I'm 68, which is in 10 years time.

Rocketmam · 26/03/2020 17:23

Poor Italy Sad

Horehound · 26/03/2020 17:26

Tbh why shouldn't self employed play national insurance?

Horehound · 26/03/2020 17:27

There's not gona be a war...

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 17:28

Better not be

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 17:29

I’m SE fine to pay NI
I’ve used NHS that’s where it goes doesn’t it?

Keepdistance · 26/03/2020 17:30

Yeah I find the WHO advice about not shutting borders bizzarre.
We still haven't shut them to tourist now.

And yet. We are in a sense now trapped in our house afraid to go to the park or supermarket.

I also think lockdown in London would have helped as then all other areas could have helped.
If areas are going at different rates they can supply food too.

Tbh if I survive I will be interested to see how different countries have fared as some have shut flights and borders and schools.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 26/03/2020 17:30

Self employed DO pay NI! why on earth do people think we dont?

defthand · 26/03/2020 17:30

It’s the big jump in Lombardy that’s most depressing. They went into lockdown earlier. Are we going to need a Wuhan-style lockdown to actually stop this thing?

MaxNormal · 26/03/2020 17:31

Angryrant55 you're literally the only person I've ever seen mention a war with China, and you've said it frequently.

BeijingBikini · 26/03/2020 17:33

USA wouldn't start an actual war with a country that has nuclear weapons. That's like committing suicide.

Nuclear weapons aside, pretty much the entire West imports everything from China. If you sanction them, enjoy not being able to buy anything. We can't magic up factories to manufacture stuff, and even if we could, it would then be 10x more expensive as we'd have to pay British wages.

mrshoho · 26/03/2020 17:34

They do pay but a reduced rate. The part they pay does go towards NHS and Pension. SE don't get SSP, Maternity pay etc

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/03/2020 17:34

Remember that the whole of Lombardia only went into total lockdown 48 hours before the rest of Italy.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 17:34

Dr Jenny H answers well

LeeMiller · 26/03/2020 17:36

Lombardy rise is awful, hopefully it's due to testing...

It's really irresponsible not to have clarified the reporting change when releasing the figures for England yesterday. I've seen mention of that Daily Mail headline twice on Facebook, stuff like that doesn't help convince people to stay home.

Foobydoo · 26/03/2020 17:41

Jenny Harries has basically just said WHO advice isn't really applicable to us!
She is good at relaying the government lines.
I find her disingenuous.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 26/03/2020 17:42

Perhaps angry rant is just angrily ranting 😂

Isn't she just!

Why did the chancellor sound like Tim Cook unveiling the new iPhone? Hmm

Helenj1977 · 26/03/2020 17:43

Italy will over take China for cases tomorrow 😢

Lifesavesocialdistance · 26/03/2020 17:47

I find jenny Harris disengenius as sell. Devoid of emotion or feeling.

Did anyone see the new York mayor?
Rambling yes... But human...

Horehound · 26/03/2020 17:49

China could easily have lied about their numbers though. I mean they are so proud but pretty devious and controlling...so 🤷

SonjaMorgan · 26/03/2020 18:02

For everyone prattling on about the Chinese; when we had confirmed cases I didn't see the British government shutting down borders to prevent the spread to other countries.

To keep on insisting this is a Chinese issue just makes you sound like trump. Maybe you should be angry with people in central Africa for HIV.

Instead of being angry maybe you should do a little research. Zoonotic viral infections will happen more regularly as we have decimated the habitats where wild animals live. This means humans and livestock come into frequent contact with bats and other hosts.

The amount of antibiotics used to keep animals alive for the way we farm them is also a massive issue.

This time the outbreak began in china, next time it could be the UK or any other country.

Horehound · 26/03/2020 18:02

Andyrant just posts the most extreme things without actually thinking about them properly or with common sense!
