So many other threads on here show people don't get it. They are still going out. They think the rules don't apply to them

We are allowed to go out.

Horehound · 26/03/2020 18:58

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for my brother's flight leaving tomorrow! Apparently today's was cancelled to the prioritise french folk back to France and was organised by the government. Doesn't make sense because everyone else booked for the flight were refused. (It was the same plane physically).
So ease keep hopeful for me!

SunshineCake · 26/03/2020 18:58

See it doesn't matter in a sense to me whether two people die or ten thousand die. In so much as it is something that could kill me so I'll stay home.

Emotionally of course it matters but it hurts someone whether one dies or a million. *@Horehound

I think the change in wording may mean that reporting of deaths will change. This will lead to a jump in numbers if people who die in community with a history that is suggestive of coronavirus are recorded as such

Keepdistance · 26/03/2020 19:29

The numbers are important in that it shows how well a country has managed or mismanaged it.
They've cocked up and are looking to hide it.
The figures need to be independent and BJ should see them when we do.
Tbh this is not the country I thought I lived in. We are not at war.
I honestly can't see them getting back in in my lifetime.
And possibly need it won't go ahead anyway

Keepdistance · 26/03/2020 19:30

*brexit

tomthomas · 26/03/2020 19:31

Long time lurker and wanted to ask advice here rather than start another 'am I allowed to do this' thread, I've always found these threads to be balanced and sensible.

Will try to be brief:

Me (key worker, only in a supermarket) and DP (still working for now, main earner in the house) decided to send DS(5) to MILs (In her 50s, keyworker- teacher) rather than send him to school when our shifts overlap.

Is this the right decision? Surely school is much more of a risk? (I could have sent him in due to my job) I find myself doubting myself more and more each day, neither of us can afford to stop working.

Quartz2208 · 26/03/2020 19:34

Presumably if you are only testing those in hospital you can only include those in hospital?

Increased testing should change things because the one thing we need to accurately know is how many people have had it already.

abitoflight · 26/03/2020 19:42

I think without post mortem testing from community deaths

Delatron · 26/03/2020 19:48

@tomthomas That sounds like the best option to me as he is around less people?
And if MIL is in her 50s with no health conditions then sounds ok. I would do that rather than send to school.

tomthomas · 26/03/2020 19:55

@Delatron thank-you so much for your reply, I just feel like we're taking risks everyday exposing ourselves. I think I just needed someone to tell me that it's the right thing to do. Thanks

“6203 new cases and 712 new deaths in Italy. Worldometer has contacted Piedmont officials directly and received confirmation that the number of deaths in the region is 499, 50 more than what mistakenly reported in the Protezione Civile's bulletin today. This discrepancy was clearly due to a typing error by Protezione Civile, not to Piedmont's number of new deaths (16 today) missing in the national report, as incorrectly stated by some media. After solving this discrepancy, we changed the official total number of deaths in Italy from 8,165 to 8,215”

WhyNotMe40 · 26/03/2020 20:00

Aren't Italy's stats going down yet? Hideous figure

Zebracat · 26/03/2020 20:11

Wow my street just had a totally self isolated street party. It was lovely, we stood on our doorsteps and clapped.

Imerc · 26/03/2020 20:15

I don't like it.

WhyNotMe40 · 26/03/2020 20:17

Zebracat - we did as well Grin

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/03/2020 20:18

Italy's trend is going down. The figures aren't, because peak isn't due until beginning of April and beyond.

WhyNotMe40 · 26/03/2020 20:18

Lmerc what dont you like?

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/03/2020 20:18

Or rather, going up more slowly and as predicted by how many people are in ICU v how many infected.

mrshoho · 26/03/2020 20:21

positive sign @TheCanterburyWhales 🤞👍

WhyNotMe40 · 26/03/2020 20:31

Ah yes I had a look at Italy's graphs on worldometer. It's a definite slowing.

TheCanterburyWhales · 26/03/2020 20:33

Unfortunately here in the south we are waiting for the storm as it's almost 3 weeks since the twats escaped from the north. I think Naples is already struggling to cope.

Quartz2208 · 26/03/2020 20:48

edition.cnn.com/2020/03/26/health/california-teen-coronavirus-deaths/index.html

Sad look at the 18 year old who died in Los Angeles - the implication I think being that he didnt have health insurance and had he been treated at the start may well have been alright

You do wonder how insurance will be in America.

mrshoho · 26/03/2020 20:56

I have visions of Mr Trump doing a runner. He's so out of his depth and I don't think his big business plans are going to fix it anytime soon.
