108-year-old Spanish flu survivor dies from Covid-19.

www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2020/mar/29/uk-coronavirus-live-mass-testing-lockdown-boris-johnson-covid-19-latest?page=with:block-5e80b4518f081e5eda239038#block-5e80b4518f081e5eda239038

A 108-year-old woman and survivor of the 1918 Spanish flu is thought to have become the oldest victim of coronavirus in the UK.

Hilda Churchill died in a Salford care home on Saturday, hours after testing positive for Covid-19 and just eight days before her 109th birthday.

She is the oldest victim of the virus to be named in the UK. She was born in 1911, the year before the Titanic sank and three years before the start of the first world war. It was also seven years before the Spanish flu pandemic, which infected 500 million worldwide, and killed her sister.

pocketem why would you tell someone off for a description of how they feel?

of I hope you feel better soon. My last attack of pneumonia, I was acutely aware of my lungs, which is obviously not normal!

Horehound · 29/03/2020 16:24

SistemaAddict · 29/03/2020 16:29

Nice cough into the elbow there Jenny!

SansaSnark · 29/03/2020 16:35

Hoping this works, but this was shared by a nurse I know who is involved in drugs trials, showing some of the work going on around the world and when we can expect results.

Have I missed today's update??

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 29/03/2020 16:39

I can't see the portal for vulnerable people anywhere?

What is it and where is it?

We are still not able to get a Sainsburys slot even though it says all over their site that we can.

I know it's small fry compared to people who are ill just now, but if lots of people can't get food safely it will cause more to become ill, which undermines the whole aim of the lockdown.

I feel so sorry for people with poor or no internet access who would struggle to navigate this situation. Especially those on their own.

peridito · 29/03/2020 16:44

in today's press briefing there is a media question re nos of reported deaths not accurately reflecting the nos of people dying .

Questioner says letter from Kings Trust stating seeing more deaths in their hospitals than those reported .

Dr Jenny Harries replies it's down to time lag in reporting - todays numbers based on nos of deaths that happened those ocurring ?24/36 hours ago .Plus implies delay also due to informing families .

But ,personally ,I think hospital trusts are neither stupid nor irresponsible and would have factored these issues in .They are raising it with media because even having done this they think reported numbers are too low .

SistemaAddict · 29/03/2020 16:46

I'm not reassured by any of that really. Good news about the ppe but it should have been in place weeks ago.

JemimaPuddleCat · 29/03/2020 16:46

@MangePasTesOnglesVilain

You can find it on the Gov website.

Does anyone know if there's a register for Scotland yet?

mrshoho · 29/03/2020 16:46

Mange there's a new number to call for Sainsburys. 08009534988 you give your details and they then check your nectar and existing account. They will then be checking against the government's database and should contact you to set up delivery. I don't know how quickly this is meant to take though.

peridito · 29/03/2020 16:48

@Helenj1977

todays figures another 2433 cases and 209 deaths

I like this spreadsheet which gives percentage increases and daily totals re nos of tests

Horehound · 29/03/2020 16:51

Jenny did cough again later on. I said to DH I bet she has it.

Has gove got it?

CrunchyCarrot · 29/03/2020 16:53

Latest death figures for the UK added to the comparison table between Italy and the UK.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 29/03/2020 17:00

Thanks all. I have signed up on the gov website the first day it happened. Didn't know that was a 'portal' sorry...

but it hasn't recognised me as vulnerable on Sainsburys website yet.

That conference mentioned food parcels, but for one person. We are isolating as a family unit as I didn't think it's practical to isolate myself from the dcs and dh in the house.

Like I say, it sounds petty to go on about food but it will undermine the lockdown if the gov can't sort it, as people will just start taking risks.

It's only been a week so maybe it will get sorted soon.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 29/03/2020 17:06

Isolating as a household here too mange. Whoever decided it was safe for those we live with to go out so long as we stay in was clearly writing advice to lowest common denominator.

If DP brings it home, I'll get it. So she and the DCs are staying put.

Noideareally2 · 29/03/2020 17:07

So the UK number is lower than Italy at the same point.. but would it be similar/same if CV deaths at home were included, or still quite a bit off, or is it impossible to say?
