Nightingale Hospital being built and fitted out

www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2020/mar/28/uk-coronavirus-live-testing-rolled-out-for-frontline-nhs-workers

It's all suddenly become real this morning. Lady I know has taken ill through the night and has been admitted to the corona ward awaiting test results.

She is quite poorly hence the admission. She is also very young.

I then went to our local Sainsbury's, it's on my street and I use it all the time. I haven't been out for days but ventured for milk. There was a queue of about 20 people stretching down the road, everyone naturally standing 2m apart. They were letting 3 in at a time.
All very surreal. Sad

Coquohvan · 28/03/2020 11:53

Notice Worldometers site has added a ‘first case’ column.

JemimaPuddleCat · 28/03/2020 11:57

@itsallwrongisntit

Sorry to hear you know someone who is really poorly. Sad

I haven't been out in almost two weeks, but am worried about seeing how things have changed, and how scary that might be.

mrshoho · 28/03/2020 12:22

I went to waitrose just now for my Mum and Dad and it was very organised. Had to queue outside well distanced for about 10 mins and then inside was easy to move around. The only thing I couldn't get was bleach and wipes and Kellogg's cornflakes (found an alternative). I found it strange as no one obvs stops to talk so quite a surreal atmosphere and some very unusual head protection being worn by some. Feel for the staff in there all day.

Horehound · 28/03/2020 12:34

So Italy had their first case on Jan 29th and we had ours on the 30th

That's a good sign isn't it?

Horehound · 28/03/2020 12:36

I also just went shopping. Tesco had a queue outside so I went to aldi and there was no queue and neither did Lidl when I drove past it.
Got everything I needed although people were kind if trying to keep a distance but didn't really...

I actually have a site throat and a cough now and feel a bit achey. But could be anything

Quartz2208 · 28/03/2020 12:39

@Horehound I think now each country is very much going to have its own journey with this as its so dependent on many different factors - Germany and Canada first cases are before ours but data is different.

Horehound · 28/03/2020 13:13

Yes guess so @Quartz2208

Oh my brother has landed!!!

AutumnRose1 · 28/03/2020 13:28

does anyone know what time the press conference is today please?

Janemarpling · 28/03/2020 13:32

Good news horehound

Helenj1977 · 28/03/2020 13:38

Great news @Horehound 😀

Helenj1977 · 28/03/2020 14:02

Worldometer have added a world row as well.

namechangemania · 28/03/2020 14:03

As of 9am on 28 March 2020, a total of 120,776 people have been tested, of which 103,687 were confirmed negative and 17,089 were confirmed positive.

As of 5pm on 27 March 2020, 1,019 patients in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

Youngatheart00 · 28/03/2020 14:08

Thanks for the stats.

What’s the increase rate in deaths, are we still accelerating or has it stabilised?

Namechangervaver · 28/03/2020 14:09

Fuck, that is a MASSIVE increase in deaths.

namechangemania · 28/03/2020 14:09

I make it 260? It was 118 odd the day before Sad

Derbygerbil · 28/03/2020 14:09

That’s 260 more than yesterday. Fuck, that’s bad.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 28/03/2020 14:09

They are just scary figures now. I haven't seen any graphs but we are surely speeding up and on a course to overtake italy and Spain?

namechangemania · 28/03/2020 14:10

It’s more than doubled since the previous day

Derbygerbil · 28/03/2020 14:11

It was 183 not 118... still a sharp increase 😣

GoofyGoob · 28/03/2020 14:11

I've been lurking on these threads for a while (have found them really helpful and useful through what is a really stressful and upsetting time for everyone - thanks everyone!), and just have a really quick question:

@CrunchyCarrot in your table, would the 759 deaths not actually come under 26th March? Because they were reported on 27th March, but had been counted from 5pm 25th March to 5pm 26th March. And so then today's really sad news about more deaths would actually be yesterday on your chart?

More than happy to be corrected by anybody!

MurrayTheMonk · 28/03/2020 14:11

What was the figure yesterday?

Eeyoresstickhouse · 28/03/2020 14:11

If they are still only testing hospitalised patients and obviously others eg BoJo and Charles et al. It must be that the majority of hospital patients in the country now have it!

Helenj1977 · 28/03/2020 14:11

2000 less tests then the previous day.
