What new measures could be introduced as a result of the increase in deaths? Sorry, I can't remember who said about new measures.

namechangemania · 27/03/2020 15:36

Bercows I’ve wondered about a 7pm-7am curfew unless you are a key worker.
My city centre has been full of youths and gatherings of people generally in the evening!

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 27/03/2020 15:42

"most people don't seem to care about the rest of the UK."

??

I don't understand how you can say that - we've spent good chunks of the thread talking about Aneurin Bevan Health Board - as at least three of us here (i think?) live in it?!

Bessica1970 · 27/03/2020 15:45

Jemimapuddleca
Why do you think no one cares about the rest of the UK?
Of course the number of deaths and cases in the less densely populated parts of the UK aren’t going to be as dramatic as the England figures, which is why they draw more comments.

TBH I don’t know why the figures are announced separately - it should be one daily figure.

Horehound · 27/03/2020 15:47

Can someone explain who are making up the negative tests? If they are only testing people in hospital how can there be so many? Or so they have to test the same people every day assuming one day they don't have it and the next they might??

Bessica1970 · 27/03/2020 15:47

Just like there have been loads of comments about Italy and Spain, but that doesn’t mean people don’t care about Portugal and Germany!

turkeyontheplate · 27/03/2020 15:49

Our new case numbers have just dropped by about 100 on Worldometers Confused

SistemaAddict · 27/03/2020 15:51

Are we expecting a briefing today? I'm not sure how long the daily briefings are going on for. I think tighter measures do need to be brought in. People are not obeying the instructions and they all have an excuse that makes them special if they threads on here are anything to go by. They need to be very clear about what exercise is allowed first a start.

Saucery · 27/03/2020 15:54

Went for a walk today, local area. 6 teenagers came out of a house, 2 couples holding hands. I am quietly despairing now. Still so many cars on the roads, many with several people in, including whole families, so not going to and from work.

turkeyontheplate · 27/03/2020 15:55

It's becoming apparent that we need to be spoonfed sensible advice in very short sentences. They need to clarify what daily exercise can and can't entail, whether walking to the shops for essential groceries counts as daily exercise, which businesses should and should not be open, and I think we need a curfew as well, especially for the young.

It's so counter-intuitive to be advocating for handing over our basic human liberties to a right-wing cabal of sociopathic thieves, though, I'm developing a permanent eyelid twitch Sad

SistemaAddict · 27/03/2020 16:03

There was a long queue of traffic this morning around 11am like any other day. Rush hour is definitely no longer a thing but people are treating it like the holidays. We are still in isolation and haven't been out in almost two weeks but I bet the park is heaving today. I didn't see it all but they were talking on tv about what you could and couldn't do and to keep away from the Peak District as people had flocked there for their daily exercise.

defthand · 27/03/2020 16:04

Numbers are out for the Lombardy region:

+2409 cases (2500ish yesterday)
+541 deaths (385 yesterday)

Helenj1977 · 27/03/2020 16:10

Is there an update today?

defthand · 27/03/2020 16:11

@turkeyontheplate

Weirdly the government has taken 36 cases from the official number on the website too.

KayakingOnDown · 27/03/2020 16:12

The negative tests are often wrong and often turn into positive ones later - according to that French report wasn't it only 60-70 per cent accuracy?

CharlieTangoBanana · 27/03/2020 16:18

Chris Witty is now displaying symptoms and self isolating

Eeyoresstickhouse · 27/03/2020 16:20

Chris Whittey now isolating with symptoms! BoJo has infected them all.

SistemaAddict · 27/03/2020 16:20

Jenny harries will be next and sunak seeing as they've all been stood next to each other regularly.

ClientQueen · 27/03/2020 16:21

I've just been to the doctors. Empty waiting room, only 5 chairs now which are massively spread out. No touch screen and you have to wear a mask and gloves to be seen. Very eerie

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 16:21

Oh man it’s too much

excitedmumtobe87 · 27/03/2020 16:23

They could force businesses to let staff work from home. Countless call centres, insurance firms, banks and telecommunications have they entire admin, support and customer service offices in. They’re making them come in and most of them use public transport. They’re being forced to spread the virus.

Helenj1977 · 27/03/2020 16:24

No press conference.

Chris Whitty has symptoms...

defthand · 27/03/2020 16:39

I was so sure he’d already had it. Poor guy.

PencilFace · 27/03/2020 16:39

After feeling fairly calm about all this I am really starting to worry today. Even more so than the virus I keep thinking about problems with thw food supply, civil unrest and even a collapse of society. Think I may be hormonal but I just can't see how this is all going to end...

AutumnRose1 · 27/03/2020 16:40

I also thought Whitty had it before!

So def no conference today? I thought a message before the weekend would be good.
