I am not understanding what I am reading from the Gov.doc website:
Status of COVID-19

As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK.

The 4 nations public health HCID group made an interim recommendation in January 2020 to classify COVID-19 as an HCID. This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak. Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase.

The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is also of the opinion that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID.

The need to have a national, coordinated response remains, but this is being met by the government’s COVID-19 response.

Cases of COVID-19 are no longer managed by HCID treatment centres only. All healthcare workers managing possible and confirmed cases should follow the updated national infection and prevention (IPC) guidance for COVID-19, which supersedes all previous IPC guidance for COVID-19. This guidance includes instructions about different personal protective equipment (PPE) ensembles that are appropriate for different clinical scenarios.

That is from www.gov.uk/guidance/high-consequence-infectious-diseases-hcid

I guess it depends on your notion of consequences...

As of Tuesday I will have 2 unemployed adult DDs living at home. We are self-isolating as DH is post-chemo. (all here at the moment, but DD was 'let go' yesterday - last in first out etc).

Is there any point them applying for JSA? Will they expected to jobseek/attend interviews, which seems irrational in respect of self-isolation?

RosieSunset · 27/03/2020 12:37

Good news about your brother @Horehound

OP posts:
NettleTea · 27/03/2020 12:40

my friend stuck in New Zealand has said there are flights leaving Tuesday at £7K a ticket!!
He cannot get through to anyone at his travel insurance to see if he is covered, but pretty much sure there is no way he can scrape that kind of money together

ajandjjmum · 27/03/2020 12:42

Surely your friend should have seen this coming though Nettle?

NettleTea · 27/03/2020 12:57

yes, he was down at the bottom of the south island when they told them that they would need to get out. So he travelled up as soon as he could. He has been at Christchurch since Friday trying to get out. He had a flight on Sunday, he checked in and then they cancelled it. He had swapped the flight from the South, so did do what was required. He had been travelling a while.

Skittlesss · 27/03/2020 12:59

People on my street are really pissing me off today. One house in particular had visitors on Weds and they came to the doorstep and had a chat with them. Today the same folk have come back and have bloody been giving kisses and hugs to the kids/family who live there. Then they frigging get a delivery. What the hell is up with them?

CaffiSaliMali · 27/03/2020 13:01

Matt Hancock also has Coronavirus according to BBC news

Horehound · 27/03/2020 13:02

@nettletea well, that's very similar to what my brother was going through. His original return flight was cancelled. He couldn't find flights as everyone was buying then up and drive the price up. There was some for £12,000 Hmm
So I managed to boom him and his gf a flight for £4k and then that flight for cancelled and they somehow landed lucky and got a different one a few days earlier.
Bit also, there was a regular "Joe bloggs" guy who organised a charter flight and filled it up within a few hours. Every one paid £1500. Job done.
The embassy haven't managed to organise a piss up in a brewery but some random person managed to get a few hundred people home. Madness!

Givemeabreakpls · 27/03/2020 13:11

Yup Matt Hancock also positive according to the Guardian

AutumnRose1 · 27/03/2020 13:11

yolo does JSA still exist in your area or is it Universal Credit?

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 13:14

Eep at more

Some might not wish this but I hope they’re still running the country from home etc

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 27/03/2020 13:19

autumn I think we still hve JSA...

JemimaPuddleCat · 27/03/2020 13:29

Just in case anyone cares, another 8 deaths in Scotland.

defthand · 27/03/2020 13:36

+165 new cases in Scotland too.

FingonTheValiant · 27/03/2020 13:38

So a French scientist is saying that positive tests are 100% reliable, but negative tests are only 60-70% reliable.

I can add the link for anyone who wants it, but it’s in French with no subtitles.

mrshoho · 27/03/2020 13:50

@Horehound great news. glad he's on his way

Well my news, dh had a call from his consultant to stop work and get home. He's one of the people who needs to be shielded. He had be going in to work but completely isolated and no stopping off anywhere but dr said even that is v high risk. We live in a small house with no spare rooms so don't think we'll be able to follow those strict rules about keeping him away from the rest if us but will try our best. He's self employed so no income from tomorrow but I know it's coming in June at least. I'm going to try and find out about universal credit in the meantime and talk to our bank and mortgage co. I still have to go out as have elderly parents and MIL to care for and starting to worry I could end up infecting him. The consultant was quite blunt in saying he will die if he gets it. My head is spinning but staying calm and positive as my highly anxious daughter needing lots of reassurance. I want to cry.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 27/03/2020 13:50

I also saw a French teenager age 16 with no underlying conditions has died Sad
