Delay in today's numbers

TheReelSlimShady · 25/03/2020 20:00

Unless I'm being really stupid, it doesn't look like the numbers have been updated for today, it still says 24th March

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

Not seen any reasons as to why they are delayed?

I don't know how people are saying there were no measures in place 2 weeks ago. It of course wasn't as strict. But we were being given information about the virus continually by that stage. Whether it be isolate on return from travel, socially distance, wash your hands etc

Cheltenham Festival had hand sanitizer at every turn. Of course, it should have been cancelled in hindsight but there were definitely measures being put into place even then.

We of course have no idea how long this will go on. But there is no point re-writing history because maybe YOU were not doing anything differently 2 weeks ago

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:18

Two weeks ago people were beginning to self isolate and companies were sending staff to wfh. These were decisions made by individuals and nothing to do with government at all. Government were not even suggesting wfh.

All that was happening from government was - wash your hands and self isolate if you have travelled from Italy or China. But we won't check, and you make your own way back from the airport.

I won't let you rewrite history.

ShellsAndSunrises · 26/03/2020 09:22

They are not mentioning the healthy 21, 36, and 47 year olds with no underlying conditions who died.

The 47 year old was mentioned. The other two were not as they did not die yesterday @littlemissmuffins.

Bearbehind · 26/03/2020 09:23

Yes, we test post mortem

Only sudden unexplained deaths get a PM don't they?

I took ‘post mortem’ there to literally just be ‘after death’ not necessarily as part of a an actual post mortem procedure

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 26/03/2020 09:24

Two weeks ago people were beginning to self isolate and companies were sending staff to wfh

People didnt just decide 'hmm I have a fever I wont go in' with the guvernemnet not mentioning corona at all or putting recommendations in place.

The government and NHS direct were telling people to isolate in certain conditions over 2 weeks ago.

I know because my kids, did 2 week isolation based on what NHS direct and the gievrnement said. I had a thread on here about it. Do you not think someone would have said 'but they dont need to' if there was nothing in place. They were and have been symptomless

You are trying to rewrite history. You are denying what people are actually telling you were their experiences. Saying things didnt exist.

That's rewriting history.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:25

And no people were not being told to socially distance.
Lots of people were pushing the government to do something. And those of us on here saying more needed to be done were told we were scaremongering.

The truth is those who read and realised what was happening were self isolating while the government was still saying it was just a cold.
I pulled my kids out of school and was criticised for it on here, because it is "just a cold".

The government were doing nothing. Hand sanitisers at Cheltenham were a bit of performance art and would have achieved little. And anyone who would die as a result of attending that would not yet be dead.

You must think we are idiots who can't remember what was happening 2 weeks ago.

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 26/03/2020 09:28

But there is no point re-writing history because maybe YOU were not doing anything differently 2 weeks ago

This is a good point. It wasnt hugely impact on people 2 weeks ago.

On me it was. A colleague who sat next to me had to isolate due to fever, she comes out today. No other symptoms.

My kids were in isolation for 2 weeks. So it impacted me. So I know there were things in place.

As I said, I dont thinking was enough. But for people to say 'there was nothing in place 2 weeks ago' is factually incorrect.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:28

Yes we were being told to self isolate 2 weeks ago if we had a cough or fever i.e. we were already ill. No there was nothing about social distancing.
People in the shielded group such as me were not even told we were especially vulnerable until last few days.

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 26/03/2020 09:29

No there weren't. They didnt tell me I kust isolate my kids for 2 weeks, because they may have caught a cold in italy.

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2020 09:31

Yes, he stated the peak could be over before Easter, that’s what I meant by over, and that deaths could be much lower than the 20k and that they are reasonably confident the nhs won’t be breached.

They have also stated they do not wish Long term stringent lock downs as they feel it will lead to a resurgence when released. They would like less stringent Measures in place to manage it through. Not because of herd immunity but because they think there could be a resurgence if we shut it down too tight.

No one actually knows, all our top scientists globally are applying every ounce of knowledge they have to this. At this stage it’s likely, or possible (if people are going to pick over words), that restrictions will be eased slightly after this three to four week period, but the twelve weeks Boris put forward is looking more likely by the day, as the peak would be much earlier, as in the next few days. Not into June time.

Many more positive reports are coming out now from the scientific community, are we through it yet, absolutely not, will it be over, as in completely done by Easter, clearly not, will the peak be over before Easter and much earlier than expected, yes it’s highly possible, sage think so, many global authorities think so.

All we can do is listen, watch, obey and wait.

Paranoia, Pessimism, panic helps no one.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:32

I hadn't realised you meant self isolate as to refer only to people already ill.
Yes I did start wfh 2 weeks ago with no fever or cough. Our company closed down before the government was even encouraging wfh. But I work for a scientific company and managers realised what was happening. One had just attended an international virologist conference where they were talking about this virus.

Derbygerbil · 26/03/2020 09:32

@Pishposhpashy

Sorry, my response was aimed at the original post by @Bluntness100 not yours.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:34

And GSK, at least locally, had already moved to only essential workers in and serious social distancing in their premises. We work with them so I know this for a fact. In fact the day we closed up, most firms we worked with had either already done the same, or just about to.

The government had said nothing to employers at that point.

loobyloo1234 · 26/03/2020 09:36

publichealthmatters.blog.gov.uk/2020/03/04/coronavirus-covid-19-what-is-social-distancing/

4th March 2020. Socially distancing was already being talked about by the Government.

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2020 09:37

And there is absolutely no doubt people were being more cautious two weeks ago, in fact even a month ago, as said, I was supposed to be having a long weekend in central London with my daughter from the 16 March and we cancelled the week before. We were already joking we’d be the only ones there.

In the lead up to that the price kept dropping as no one was booking rooms, and when I called central reservations, it’s a large high end chain, to cancel, the man asked why and said “yes it’s having a huge impact on us”.

We didn’t have lock down. We didn’t have stringent measures, but there is no doubt that people were already being very cautious. Yes some events took place that likely shouldn’t have, but there were measures in place and activity being under taken that would have had an impact.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:40

I knew this was very serious 2 weeks ago and even before that. But it was all on here - you are scaremongering. The government were still saying that only the very old and very vulnerable are at risk. Even though there were clearly stats that I shared on here showing that if the government did nothing else, half a million people will die. This was obvious before the government u turn. They gave into pressure that many scientists and WHO put on them.

@Itsnotthatcomplicated You are misquoting me. I am clearly not talking about those self isolating because they were ill. I self isolated my family because I knew this was serious. None of us had any symptoms. And yes on MN I was told I was scaremongering and it was just a cold.
People coming from Italy were told to self isolate because there was a very high probability they could be infected. And a lot of people coming from italy didn't self isolate including members of our own royal family.

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2020 09:42

I’d also add Flybe went bust on the fourth of March and partially put that down to corona virus and drop in flights,

No one came on here and said “eh? Why would flights have dropped, that can’t be right” and that was three weeks ago.

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2020 09:46

People in the shielded group such as me were not even told we were especially vulnerable until last few days

You might not have been formally notified but to pretend the info hasn’t been in the public domain for several weeks on what the underlying conditions were is just silly.

My husband has asthma, he also has an immune system issue, we have known for weeks, sure he wasn’t formally notified, but we absolutely knew from the media that people with under lying conditions were more at risk and have done for some considerable time.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:46

@Bluntness100 People were being cautious in spite of what the government were doing. They were taking that much vaunted "responsibility" and going, bugger this, we are going to do x, y and x even if our government is only telling us still to wash our hands.
It should have not been down to individuals. The government should have been saying no travel for holidays or weekends away, essential travel only.

I also think it is disgraceful that there are still people who don't know if they are in the shielded group. I didn't know until a few days ago. Some are still waiting to find out.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:48

@Bluntness100 Vulnerable is very different from the shielded group. Vulnerable for example includes anyone with asthma. Shielded is very different and more specific.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:51

And when vulnerable group were told to stay at home for 12 weeks, lots of us said we can't as we work. Shielded group get a sick note for 12 weeks so they can stay at home.
Yes there is a list of some conditions in shielded group. But there are rarer ones missing. Mine is not even mentioned. I am in fb support group and there are lots of people saying - I don't know if I am in the shielded group or not and my employer is saying I still have to go to work, what should I do?
It is a bloody disgrace. These are supposed to be the people who are at highest risk of dying if they contract it.

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 09:54

Flybe went bust because the government rightly rescinded their offer to bail them out. They had already been on the point of closure and the government had previously promised a bail out.

user1471439240 · 26/03/2020 10:01

He meant the peak in 2 to 3 weeks will be this peak. If the peak falls then restrictions may be relaxed. It is expected that restrictions will be waxed and waned to flatten the peak. If cases rise then restrictions will be reapplied, cases fall restrictions lifted. It is to filter cases through intensive car without overwhelming the beds.
It really is still herd immunity, minimising vulnerable deaths. There is no vaccine, there is no other way.

Bluntness100 · 26/03/2020 10:05

I think it’s very sad indeed that some people can see nothing but pessimism.

Honestly part of me wonders if you’re the guys who’ve got two thousand toilet rolls smuggled under your bed, or trying to sell them for a profit on eBay, posting on here, whilst eyeing up your second freezer balefully.

Look everyone can read what they want from this, some folks like myself will take the green shoots of hope, we will listen to sage, and other global advisors, and not automatically think it’s all bullshit, others will see only the worst,

Right now it’s too early to tell. But the indications are positive. We need to wait and see.

Delatron · 26/03/2020 10:09

Yep just because people (including me) and companies were being cautious is not the same as having government ‘measures’ in place.
I’m pretty sure people were only self isolating if they had returned from Italy/China and had symptoms. Everyone else from Italy went straight back to school and to work (many in hospitals) I remember this as I was horrified and wished there were more measures in place.
The surgeon that went skiing in Italy and came back and went straight back to work and spread the virus around the hospital?
