The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

@TSSDNCOP

Okay so let's say theres nothing they can do during a pandemic.

What should they do as head of state then? You know, as their incredibly well paid jobs?

OP posts:

@Clavinova

Again doesnt answer our question of what is their role?

You're like a load of MPs dodging a question at any cost!

Wolfgirrl

Drum up more than 400 supporters for your cause then.

Wolfgirrl · 26/03/2020 12:55

@Clavinova still not answered 😂😂😂 literally getting ridiculous now!

To be honest, I dont think people are bothered enough either way. As PP's have said, they provide some entertainment bow and again, a bit of glamour and don't cost that much in the grand scheme of things. I think once the older generation are gone (us and them) apathy will do for them.

TSSDNCOP · 26/03/2020 13:03

Act on advice from their Government @wolfgirl

But like the rest of us when you think about it.

Wolfgirrl · 26/03/2020 13:13

@TSSDNCOP

Interesting that the governments advice is for hundreds of thousands of people to sign up to be nhs volunteers using their own time and resources, but our multi millionaire overlords that dont work are exempt. Ah well.

slipperywhensparticus · 26/03/2020 13:21

She has already released a statement

slipperywhensparticus · 26/03/2020 13:23

And at 93 I expect her to follow government advice and self isolate

ssd · 26/03/2020 13:27

I wonder if Charlie is self isolating along with his staff?
They are keeping quiet about the number of staff 2 people need... Or of course, don't need but have anyway..

BubblesBuddy · 26/03/2020 13:28

Charles didn’t though, did he? He travelled to Scotland and already had signs of the virus before he travelled. This is simply not acceptable behaviour and hardly giving leadership. It’s the same old issue that rules don’t apply to them and they don’t lead by example. Shame on him!

He obviously doesn’t sleep with Camilla as she doesn’t have it!

Alsohuman · 26/03/2020 13:28

That’s not advice at all. It’s an appeal for us all to pull together. As it happens I’ve signed up but I certainly don’t expect anyone over 90 to do so.

BubblesBuddy · 26/03/2020 13:29

The Times today gives a chronological account of his movements. Utterly selfish as you might expect.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 13:30

The royals have always been quite good at self preservation (source the crown but I reckon it’s true)

BubblesBuddy · 26/03/2020 13:30

I wouldn’t expect Charles or the Queen to volunteer but the younger ones could. And should.

dairyfairies · 26/03/2020 13:32

Again doesnt answer our question of what is their role?

looking at the current situation, it appears that the RF goes into collective hiding at the point of crisis (alongside ignoring the general government advice to stay at home and instead flog to their second homes and presumably to drag Covid into different parts of the country with them). They have no role. I really don't get why people fall over themselves to defend this useless and entitled bunch.

If all that is they have to seemingly offer at such difficult times, I am sure we all can do without them.

TSSDNCOP · 26/03/2020 13:33

Well I'm not expecting 70 and 90 year olds to be accepted into the volunteer list. MN has a meltdown if a old person is spotted on the streets at the moment.

Maybe the youngest will be able to contribute. I don't know.

What I do.know is if I was on a Corona ward as a patient or nurse, I do t think a visit from the RF would help. It'd be quite nice if an elderly person got their shopping dripped of by William or a MH call from Katherine.

ssd · 26/03/2020 13:55

@BubblesBuddy, what does it say?

yesterdayhasgone · 26/03/2020 13:57

I’m not convinced that Charles has Coronavirus. What better way to go into hiding and isolate than to pretend he has. Very mild symptoms too. Hmm

BubblesBuddy · 26/03/2020 14:04

Exactly TSS. Silence and no activity is not good enough.

TSSDNCOP · 26/03/2020 14:08

Maybe they will all throw open their windows at 8pm tonight and clap for the NHS Grin

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 26/03/2020 14:16

Of course they are not going to do anything. They need to preserve the genes that keep them in their massive meal ticket. Minor royals can because they are dispensable

Clavinova · 26/03/2020 14:28

I’m not convinced that Charles has Coronavirus.

I wasn't really listening to the news last night but I assumed the woman giving the press statement about Prince Charles' coronavirus test was a Scottish Health Minister - if I remember correctly she was standing next to Nicola Sturgeon. Do you think they were making it up? Come to think of it Nicola Sturgeon does look a bit shifty.

our multi millionaire overlords that don't work are exempt.

Looks as though Prince Charles was wfh yesterday:

25 March 2020
The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay this morning held a Meeting with Professor Klaus Schwab (Founder and Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum) via telephone.

His Royal Highness, Patron, International Rescue Committee UK, this evening held a Meeting with the Rt. Hon. David Miliband (President and Chief Executive Officer) via telephone.

On the day he was supposed to have been infected (at the WaterAid Summit) he had four engagements - he looks pretty busy for a 71 year old to me:

10 March 2020
Clarence House

The Prince of Wales, President, this morning attended a WaterAid Summit, Kings Place, York Way, London N1.

His Royal Highness this afternoon held a Meeting with Commonwealth High Commissioners at St. James's Palace.

The Prince of Wales, Patron, the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism, afterwards held a Meeting.

His Royal Highness, President, The Prince's Trust, this evening held a Dinner at Buckingham Palace.

EthelMayFergus · 26/03/2020 14:29

I think a lot of their appeal is from foreigners. I'm from ROI and I am fascinated by them. HMQ is an incredibly good diplomat and does a great deal for international relations, I don't think that should be underestimated as we leave the EU. I think the rest of the family do too, to a lesser degree (except Andrew and Harry obviously).

alloutoffucks · 26/03/2020 14:31

Yes the younger ones could volunteer to do something useful. Helping to drop off shopping does not really put them at risk, but shows they are pulling together to help.
And I am glad the queen is doing a short talk.

I do think the younger ones need to show what they are adding to the royal family.
