Is no one even a little concerned about the intrusion and removal of freedoms?

I know needs must and we're in a real crisis situation but it does make me a little uneasy to see how easy it has been to remove all freedoms.

The real shocker for me today was the text messages. I've spent the last year or so working on GDPR stuff and all the "threats" associated with that. Who gave the government all our numbers?!

I know it's insignificant in the scheme of things now but is it right that it's so easy?

That's 465 too many imo!Sad

Sostenueto · 25/03/2020 23:05

There's 8000+ in hospital seriously ill with Covid 19 too so count will soon jump. If I have to be a bit restricted in what I can do for a bit and deaths go down then that's fine by me!

Lycidas · 25/03/2020 23:07

Italy was on 827 at this point, so thankfully we're veered off their path a little. Still too many deaths of course.

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 23:11

The mortality rate has not been reported yet for today as not all figures in. Far too early to be drawing any conclusions, good or bad.

alittlebitdemented · 25/03/2020 23:11

I can give you a simple answer and a simple reason.

No. My dad is dying in hospital currently with the virus. My mum can't see him as she may have the virus. My siblings and I can't see my mum as she may have the virus. I can't see my children as I have been exposed to the virus as I visited my dad. It is likely my dad will die alone.

Maybe if people had taken this seriously before, it may not have come to this. Maybe if the lockdown had happened before now, it wouldn't have come to this. I have to go through this utter nightmare so I sure as hell expect others to adhere to the lockdown to prevent it spreading faster.

I have been dealt the cruellest blow through this lockdown and even I accept it.

Sostenueto · 25/03/2020 23:12

Of course don't forget the next crisis coming in December....global recession and a no deal Brexit! Give me a good old virus anytime!!!

alittlebitdemented · 25/03/2020 23:13

I should say lockdown and self-isolation. The lockdown in my circumstances is not the issue.

Sostenueto · 25/03/2020 23:15

alittlebitdemented so sorry to hear your sad news Flowers

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 25/03/2020 23:18

I'm uneasy about the loss of freedom and also the increased police powers.

I'm a frontline worker so I understand the principles and am following the guidelines however I can see that people are not going to want to spend all spring/summer indoors.

alittlebitdemented · 25/03/2020 23:19

@Sostenueto Thank you so much. Devastated doesn't come close. I long for the time when Brexit was the only news.

HeIenaDove · 25/03/2020 23:24

Blimey @LuxLFC that tweet.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 25/03/2020 23:24

@alittlebitdemented so sorry you are going through this as a family. I said the same thing to hubby earlier about Brexit. I remember saying god I wish something else would happen in the world so everyone would stop talking about it. If only that had never happened!

Are you still able to visit him in hospital?

alittlebitdemented · 25/03/2020 23:29

@Thepigeonsarecoming aw, thank you.
Yes, visited him last night and my sister did tonight. We are both having to self isolate now. I can live with that but my poor poor mum. It is heartbreaking.

HeIenaDove · 25/03/2020 23:50

@alittlebitdemented Thanks

Thepigeonsarecoming · 25/03/2020 23:59

@alittlebitdemented I can’t even begin to imagine what your poor mum is going through right now 😥. I have no words, I wish I could say something to make this better. If you ever want to talk or rant feel free to pm me though

RedDiamond · 26/03/2020 00:21

@alittlebitdemented So sorry to read what you have put. My heart goes out to you and all your family.

eaglejulesk · 26/03/2020 02:46

What is it? What underlying agenda have global governments agreed on?

I'm wondering that myself - must be something pretty big!!!

SmileEachDay · 26/03/2020 05:43

I'm wondering that myself - must be something pretty big!!!

Maybe they’re just organising a surprise party for us all and CV is to distract us whilst they put up the balloons?

Oblomov20 · 26/03/2020 06:00

I'm surprised OP sees it that way.
No fan of BJ here, but he told the public again and again. And they didn't comply. I struggle to understand how some people are so selfish or stupid that they didn't 'get it' and comply with social distancing.

So BJ needed to step it up. Even since then, people haven't complied. It's baffling. He'll probably have to take it stricter. He shouldn't even have had to!

But BJ is not to blame for some of the public's stupidity. I can't understand the viewpoint that he's to blame?

Mayra1367 · 26/03/2020 06:16

No

MarginalGain · 26/03/2020 07:12

Yes.

SinkGirl · 26/03/2020 07:24

There is a difference between understanding that right now these measures are necessary, and concern about what the government will do with these unprecedented powers going forwards.

Those two things are not mutually exclusive and I’m surprised that so many aren’t considering it.

Initially the bill was supposed to be introduced for a two year duration which thankfully has been reduced to six months in the first instance. If you have a disabled child or are reliant on social care you’d understand why this is such an issue, funnily enough the impact on them isn’t really being discussed.

SinkGirl · 26/03/2020 07:26

No fan of BJ here, but he told the public again and again. And they didn't comply.

The Coronavirus Bill was already being pushed through before that happened. And some of the contents are a great concern to a lot of people for good reason. Concern about the bill is not the same as arguing the measures right now are unnecessary.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 26/03/2020 07:29

Not right now no. But I am keeping similar concerns at the back of my mind.

MarginalGain · 26/03/2020 07:31

I was in NYC during and after 9/11 and the parallels are striking.

'We're doing this for your safety' + vague exit criteria = disaster
