What about those without cards - plenty of them.
Plenty of corner shops don't even take cards.

where I am (not uk) payment by cash is strongly discouraged. most shops accept cards. those that don't (the barber we use) accept bank transfer via banking app there and then and I message the barber a screenshot.

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 13:46

Can't see any sign of the post office allowing their pension cards to be used in shops or by another person (if you normally collect yourself.0

danni0509 · 24/03/2020 13:47

Dh gets paid in cash !

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 13:47

Lol - trying to get plenty of people who have never been online in their life to bank transfer a shop for a pint of milk and a loaf of bread will be interesting.

danni0509 · 24/03/2020 13:48

I need to get it into my bank for our rent coming out Friday. He gets paid cash every Friday in a pay packet has always been this way (5 years working for company) I bank with Barclays so hopefully there is a way.

'Downing Street Tuesday briefing

Q: Sadiq Khan raised construction workers with PM. Why are they seemingly special category?

A: We said people shd go to work where they have no way of working from home. Also manufacturing in this category.'

NemophilistRebel · 24/03/2020 13:49

Why on earth are people still being paid in cash in this day and age unless it’s dodgy?!

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 13:49

Sam Coates Sky - 'Downing Street Tuesday briefing

Asked whether construction should continue, No10 say it should continue so long as it follows both Public Health England and industry guidelines. Workers should stay 2m away from one another.'

danni0509 · 24/03/2020 13:50

@NemophilistRebel not dodgy at all!

It's how ds company do it and always have.

He pays tax and ni thank you.

NemophilistRebel · 24/03/2020 13:51

Workers cannot stay 2m away from each other

And even so they have to work together for lifting and loading purposes

What a load of rubbish to even think that’s possible unless your putting on a bit of skirting

Any major building work and the 2m rule doesn’t work due to HSE rules

danni0509 · 24/03/2020 13:51

My sister is a hairdresser and is paid by pay packet too, I'm sure there are many small companies who still do this.

NemophilistRebel · 24/03/2020 13:52

If that’s the case danni then they can do bank transfers just as easily

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/03/2020 13:52

Just noticed there's been a huge drop in new cases in Spain, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland and Norway (numbers from Italy and France not released yet)

Does anyone know if the figures on Worldometer will be for the whole day yet?

NemophilistRebel · 24/03/2020 13:52

You’re may be paying tax but someone is avoiding it if they are sitting on cash to dish out for pay

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 13:52

iain watson - 'Downing st resisting pressure to close the construction industry despite being urged by @NicolaSturgeon
and @SadiqKhan
to take action. No10 say people can go to work if they cant work from home but need to make sure workers can keep 2m apart on site.'

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 13:56

Sam Coates Sky - 'So the most notable issue out of the No10 briefing seems to be that people cannot refuse bosses’ instruction to come into work if
A) they and their household are well.
B) they cannot do their job from home (eg manufacturing and construction).
Even if they want to stay at home...'

SansaSnark · 24/03/2020 13:58

I'm not really sure what the point of lockdown is if so many people are still having to go out to work. Most people spend more of their waking hours at work than anywhere else.

Seems like the government is still putting money above lives.

Jerseygaly · 24/03/2020 13:59

I think What I meant about the 40yo is that going forwards knowing what we do now about viruses like this affecting older people worse it makes sense to not leave having kids till say 40 when you are already going into the higher risk categories. So say a 50yo with a 10yo.
I did actually have mine latish after fertility issues. So have 2 under 10. But some, men especially having kids in 50s. None of us could have anticipated this, but if say there is is no vax or treatment and if say we aren't immune, then I will be entering the higher risk categories with teenagers. Plus obviously my parents are already high risk over 70 and commorbidities so my kids could lose Gp all of them perhaps very young.
So more consideration for people having kids going forward if this can't be sorted.
I wonder if this were like a cold coming back ever year maybe there will be some illnesses it which make you so vulnerable that it's just not worth treating us? Hoping drugs and bad can make this a mild thing

groovejet · 24/03/2020 14:00

@Horehound signed your petition.

I am worried about my Mum she is in South Africa visiting a relative and not sure she is going to be able to make it home before they lock down.

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 14:02

Cat Neilan - 'Interesting tension building here - PM's official spokesman says construction workers - which are contributing to the crowds on the Tube - can carry on going to work but must practice social distancing of two metres.'

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 14:03

Chris Mason - 'Building sites: "It should continue where it can happen in line with industry guidance." '

Nmagain · 24/03/2020 14:04

At the briefing, No 10 made clear that if people are not key workers they should not be going to work even if their employers say they should. They expect employers to adhere to it.

Hopefully Boris says this tonight in clear and precise language so every one understands

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 14:04

Chris Mason - 'Are construction workers some kind of exception? Downing St say no, you can still go to work if you cannot work from home -- eg in manufacturing.'

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 14:05

Boris is not speaking tonight - Gove is instead.

NemophilistRebel · 24/03/2020 14:06

I any idea why?
Guessing Boris might need a breather

But maybe because gove is giving conflicting information on construction?
