I'm still confused whether - as it stands - my wedding would actually be cancelled. It's irrelevant atm anyway as it isn't until the summer, but all the guidance I have read refers specifically to religious services and not to civil ceremonies with possibly only two witnesses (who could be 2m away easily).

I realise I sound like the entitled twats to ask, but I am genuinely confused! If it has to be cancelled it has to be cancelled, but I'd just rather DP have legal rights if this thing kills me. 😕

Number12 · 24/03/2020 12:50

Beyond if I were you, get married with the minimum requirements and defer your celebrations and er well get married again when the dust has settled. You get to wear your dress twice!! It depends on how the venue are...I suppose they are booked up later in the year? Anyone you know with a big garden for a marquee? It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

mamapants · 24/03/2020 12:52

All weddings are cancelled right now for at least next 3 weeks. But could be extended.
We have had to postpone our wedding when we'd rather do it but you have to pay all the registrar fees a month in advance without knowing if its going to be able to take place or not.

USA looks to be headed for a dire situation. Add in all them guns too. I can see homeguard rule and ome sort of nationalising of the health system.

Outfoxed · 24/03/2020 12:57

Wow.
Here in sweden the government has made a huge gesture to stop the spread and....banned bar service at cafes bars and restaurants, table service only. Well thank God they're taking this seriously and putting severe restrictions in place!

Number12 · 24/03/2020 12:59

I had an important dental appointment in two weeks. They have cancelled it and my dentist has left due to being in high risk group. I currently have four weeks of treatment left and now they are telling me the next appointment is late May!!!! I sat and cried last night. Im terrified of the dentist and this has been a big and experience deal for me. I feel totally left to fend for myself. I simply can't wait that long but if I approach a different dentist it will cost thousands all over again. If in the meantime I have problems during the wait to been seen, Im stuffed.

Im trying to look on the bright side. Dh is working, roof over our heads, food in fridge etc there are worse things going on but that doesn't stop me feeling gutted and worried.

Sorry for the vent.

Number12 · 24/03/2020 13:00

breaking news: olympic games postponed to 2021

RosieSunset · 24/03/2020 13:10

Here’s an article about it. Recent study says nearly 50% of the people they studied with corona virus had gut symptoms. Some of those people had diarrhea but no respiratory symptoms.
Is diarrhea a symptom of Covid 19?

My dad is finding it hard as Barclays have shut the counter system and he needs to pay bills - he will never use internet banking.

Workers are not to blame for still going to work. If your company doesn't close and insists you need to come to work or you don't get paid, what are you meant to do? The government need to force businesses to close that aren't essential. I have a friend in this position, she is being told she can't work from home and the business won't close.

SansaSnark · 24/03/2020 13:18

@BeyondMymymymyCorona I know a few people who have cancelled their weddings that are between now and May- but it might be possible to have a small legal ceremony.

I can understand wanting to be legally each other's next of kin at a time like this.

SansaSnark · 24/03/2020 13:19

@usernotfound0000 I agree- pressure needs to be put on companies, or the government needs to say anything not on their list of essential jobs has to close down.

danni0509 · 24/03/2020 13:21

@Angryrant55 can u pay in with Barclays at machines? I bank with Barclays and have money I need to pay in

Jerseygaly · 24/03/2020 13:22

Can I just say, if you haven't got married
Remember to update your wills
As otherwise you might be subject to intestinacy. My money would go to my kids which might have seemed ok but obviously in this situation with all uncertainty do and I might need each other's money and easily accessible. So I would also advise having money in a joint account.
Also make sure any pensions say where money goes to

Jerseygaly · 24/03/2020 13:24

Angry he might not need to use the internet you can pay by DD.
I have that for utilities and council tax and tv license etc.

Jerseygaly · 24/03/2020 13:25

And you can get cash and pay bills at a post office

NemophilistRebel · 24/03/2020 13:37

No one should be using cash
Or cash points

kirinm · 24/03/2020 13:39

Jerseygal - have you clarified your weird statement about 40 year olds having kids?

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 13:40

What about those without cards - plenty of them.
Plenty of corner shops don't even take cards.

NemophilistRebel · 24/03/2020 13:43

No shops should not be taking cards

In this day and age when even market sellers take cards there is no excuse

The banks should be issuing cards to anyone who doesn’t have access as a priority

It’s a major way of spreading this disease and the most vulnerable seem to be the ones against using cards

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 13:43

If tesco etc stop using cash people at risk without cards will either steal or starve. Helping your neighbours etc is fantasy land for many people.

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 13:44

More than 1 million people dont even have bank accounts.
