@ofwarren Flowers hope you're feeling better soon

Re online purchases, it's a difficult balance. If everyone stops buying the economy will grind to a complete halt which will be disastrous but everyone's safety also needs to be considered.

Deliveries themselves can probably be done safely but it's the warehouses that are more likely to be a problem in terms of social distancing.

I think purchases need to be considered on a case by case cost benefit basis.

RedToothBrush · 26/03/2020 08:36

It's like my friends have had an awakening sending scaremongering videos etc this am.

One of my neighbours was coming out of her best mates house yesterday.

I knew she'd be of the opinion that social distancing didn't apply to her because she's a single mum blah blah bullshit. She did 'kindly' invite my son to play over anytime when social distancing was first announced and it was likely the school would close. I gave a flat no.

Both are very overweight and have underlying conditions. One still has children in (two different) schools as they have a social worker. Other does not. So she's potentially exposing herself to a very large chain of contacts which includes healthcare workers kids.

I am very unimpressed by them both. They are being reckless.

Oh ofwarren hope you feel better soon Flowers

Aurea · 26/03/2020 08:40

@ofwaren
I'm afraid it sounds you have it. I had the same symptoms too - the burning lungs are typical.
I'm on day 9 now and am starting to improve.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Compare and contrast these two graphics (ours and FTs today). Are full lockdowns really the answer to stopping #coronavirus contagion? The most successful countries haven’t banned all but essential work. Aggressive testing and contact chasing proving to be the better answer.

Japan is not less hard hit because it hasn’t closed shops and schools. It’s the other way round - it hasn’t closed shops and schools because it’s less hard hit.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 08:54

Pet very true. I do wonder why

Delatron · 26/03/2020 08:55

Unfortunately we missed the boat on aggressive testing but yep countries that did that early have had better outcomes with less lockdown.

twitter.com/SaveTheNHS4U/status/1242943475789766663?s=20 According to Newsnight last night the govt has changed rules on recording deaths - now have to have family’s consent to be included in figures. That adds in a delay - so may explain yesterday’s figures.

Janemarpling · 26/03/2020 09:00

Japan is not less hard hit because it hasn’t closed shops and schools. It’s the other way round - it hasn’t closed shops and schools because it’s less hard hit.

But Japan has closed schools?

WhoWants2Know · 26/03/2020 09:01

That seems wrong, given the limited amount of identifying information that is given. Surely it's in the public interest to know at least the number of deaths.

namechangemania · 26/03/2020 09:04

This just gets worse. Why are we being lied to?

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 09:05

Blimey at consent
That will change things

AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo · 26/03/2020 09:05

WhoWants2Know It is wrong. CV is a notifiable disease - it has to be reported - and figures are not identifying, so no breach of privacy legislation.

If there really were only 48 deaths yesterday, why are we building an enormous field hospital with 2 morgues?

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 09:05

I can’t imagine many will be keen to say yes please include us

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 09:06

Glad it’s not correct

SistemaAddict · 26/03/2020 09:09

Morning all. Get well soon @ofwarren. Ds has started with a cough but seems fine in himself. Dd1 is still coughing a lot and I need to listen to her chest and check it's not needing antibiotics.

AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo · 26/03/2020 09:10

It’s the same massaging of figures that’s going on with tests. I understand there may be reasons why testing isn’t all that helpful (although disagree), but the numbers of tests they claim to be undertaking at the daily presser and the actual number of tests reported on DoH website don’t remotely match up. Likewise claims about buying more tests because there weren’t enough available before.... not borne out by 2 different test producing companies in the UK who state the government haven’t ordered a single test from them - instead they’re shipping them out to China and Korea.

Petiolaris · 26/03/2020 09:10

I do wonder why
Culture. Japanese people don’t touch or shake hands, they bow. They were wearing masks for years before this even began. And they’re more socially isolated in general. They’re also testing less than other countries - they’ve only done about a quarter as many tests as we have.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 09:12

Yes Pet that did cross my mind. Wash your hands was a good move here first (whether people listened enough is another thing).

Petiolaris · 26/03/2020 09:12

If there really were only 48 deaths yesterday, why are we building an enormous field hospital with 2 morgues?
This. We won’t find out the truth until years later because they don’t want mass panic.

ofwarren · 26/03/2020 09:13

Thank you @Bercows
Did you get ill too or just your children?
I've not been reading the post much recently.
I hope you are all ok ❤️

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 09:13

En masse childcare isn’t the same as expecting teachers and vulnerable to go back.
