The NHS is an amazing institution 'health care for all that is free at point of need'... there are not many such institutions in the world.
I truly hope that this pandemic does not enable a stronger argument for any kind of fee-paying / insurance based system that will only exacerbate inequalities in this already very unequal world.
If we are comparing the UK against Switzerland, let's consider additional facts. For example, people have had to search for cheaper insurance (for less) coverage in Switzerland given that insurance premiums have risen faster than the GDP in recent years. Health care expenditure as % of GDP in Switzerland has risen to 12.2% vs. the UK's (dropping to) 9.6%. And this rise in healthcare expenditure is despite the fact that 65% of the Swiss healthcare costs are borne by the household.
Whilst it may offer excellent healthcare, it's a great system for as long as you have a good income and will always be assured of that great income. Not so much for the less fortunate.
