Oh he has all weekend!

Angryrant55 · 25/03/2020 17:11

Julian Borger -'According to Der Spiegel, the G7 foreign ministers haven't been able to agree on a joint statement because of Pompeo's insistence it refer to #coronavirus as the "Wuhan virus". Pompeo did not deny that this morning - said G7 don't agree on everything'

middleager · 25/03/2020 17:12

They said it's the Chancellor tomorrow.
Do we think he will go further on 'lockdown' Friday? I hope so because I live near a park and it's like a game of Frogger out there (80s reference).

NoWordForFluffy · 25/03/2020 17:14

We had Frogger on an Acorn Electron! 🐸

Lifesavesocialdistance · 25/03/2020 17:16

Lifesavesocialdistance · 25/03/2020 17:17

Middle, people are allowed out and maybe the view you have is deceptive....

Eeyoresstickhouse · 25/03/2020 17:24

BoJo always goes to the bbc first no matter who is asking the question. Every night so far without fail.

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2020 17:24

BBC and Johnson always get on well. Same with Brexit.

Mawbags · 25/03/2020 17:25

Does anyone know where the figures are for today? Was horrified at yesterday's

middleager · 25/03/2020 17:27

Unfortunately Life my road links onto the park road. I stood on the corner and turned back having seen the groups along the narrow pavement on both sides and jogger brushing past others.

It was busy. Distancing wasn't feasible on the narrow pavement

Lifesavesocialdistance · 25/03/2020 17:27

I can't see any mawbag

ajandjjmum · 25/03/2020 17:30

We live opposite some open fields, with a well established dog walk going through. Always used it, as have many other local people over the years. There are probably three times more people now, and with the 2 mts. distancing, it means we are sometimes encroaching more on to the newly planted crop than we should be. There's often a scattering of half a dozen cars parked by the entrance, impeding access to us and other people, of people who drive here for their exercise. Just trying to be more tolerant in these difficult times!

DrBlackbird · 25/03/2020 17:31

The NHS is an amazing institution 'health care for all that is free at point of need'... there are not many such institutions in the world.

I truly hope that this pandemic does not enable a stronger argument for any kind of fee-paying / insurance based system that will only exacerbate inequalities in this already very unequal world.

If we are comparing the UK against Switzerland, let's consider additional facts. For example, people have had to search for cheaper insurance (for less) coverage in Switzerland given that insurance premiums have risen faster than the GDP in recent years. Health care expenditure as % of GDP in Switzerland has risen to 12.2% vs. the UK's (dropping to) 9.6%. And this rise in healthcare expenditure is despite the fact that 65% of the Swiss healthcare costs are borne by the household.

Whilst it may offer excellent healthcare, it's a great system for as long as you have a good income and will always be assured of that great income. Not so much for the less fortunate.

Aren't Italy's figures normally out by now?

MurrayTheMonk · 25/03/2020 17:38

I mean we've been lied to about the testing haven't we? Two weeks ago 10,000 tests a day for NHS...last week 'extra 25, 000' tests a day...this week, 'next week we'll be testing NHS'... I don't have much faith in it...

SubjectMatterExpert · 25/03/2020 17:40

Why aren’t the UK figures out yet? They have normally updated by this time. Unless we have had no English deaths today? (There are 5 for wales and 6 for Scotland)?

WhoWants2Know · 25/03/2020 17:41

It worries me when they are this late.

Horehound · 25/03/2020 17:41

Sorry to ask this again but I think I asked on a previous thread and I've forgotten.

We were predicting 200,000 deaths but it doesn't look like we will be anywhere near that?
Even in Italy deaths are at 7500 say they reach the peak soon then it'll be around 15000deatsj in total.
So how the hell have we said 200,000??

WwfLeopard · 25/03/2020 17:41

7503 deaths in Italy now

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 25/03/2020 17:42

Clear.As.Mud. As usual. BJ not answering any actual questions, a lot of sidelining into if and when we have tests, whether for existence of disease or (perceived) immunity.

Janemarpling · 25/03/2020 17:42

So how the hell have we said 200,000??

Without any interventions that was or limited

CricketCrocket · 25/03/2020 17:42

Was the 200k figure if we did nothing to stop the spread?

FingonTheValiant · 25/03/2020 17:43

683 deaths today for Italy according to French news.

Horehound · 25/03/2020 17:44

Right so that was just total codswallop because we were never going to do nothing Confused
