Hopefully that test as mentioned in guardian will link up to King's college thing so they can identify hotpots

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 25/03/2020 16:28

The test can show it, but are we confident that means we're immune??

Coquohvan · 25/03/2020 16:31

@MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet One thing it tells us is that you survived it.
And let’s HCP go back to work.

Horehound · 25/03/2020 16:32

I don't understand how if you've had the virus can lead to normality because we could still carry it on us and pass to those who haven't had it!

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2020 16:33

Horehound you stop being infectious

peridito · 25/03/2020 16:39

What time do we think

a the figures will be updated today

and

b the daily briefing will be ?

Horehound · 25/03/2020 16:40

But you could carry it on your skin/clothes etc? Like I mean you could pick up molecules being out of the house then bring it into someone else's home?

Helenj1977 · 25/03/2020 16:41

I think Boris will be on at 5 as usual.

Self employed help needs to be addressed.

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2020 16:42

Oh right yes I see what you mean. Lower risk but not sure how low.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 25/03/2020 16:42

I guess so - I just wondered whether:

  1. if you've had it, couldn't you still be susceptible to a different strain

and

  1. as far as I'm aware, there's no evidence that having had it makes you immune, and there have been cases of people catching it twice.

So I guess my concern would be people latching onto this as a miracle solution, when we're not 100% clear that having had it is any protection?

FeatherCastle · 25/03/2020 16:46

Skittlesss I don't think I live next to you, clearly more than one neighbour with a cough 😁

MurrayTheMonk · 25/03/2020 16:48

Do we deffo know that once you had it you are immune?

peridito · 25/03/2020 16:49

It's not v usual though - yesterday the briefing started before 4.30 and was Mat Hancock and ? Sunday was it ( the days are all the same ) we found out about 4pm that it eas to be a statement by BJ at 8.30 .

I just wish we could be told by midday when it was likely to be and who was doing it .

picklemewalnuts · 25/03/2020 16:50

@MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet I read (can't remember where) that there were some false positives from one of the tests caused by people having had a similar sars corona virus. Some of them who then went on to have Covid19 appeared then to have had it twice.

It's all so new, the information changes constantly.

peridito · 25/03/2020 16:51

The Gusrdian says self employed package being announced on Thursday .

Imerc · 25/03/2020 16:51

We can't not develop any immunity to a natural virus but who knows how long that will last plus mutations. Looking at SARS might give an idea

Eyewhisker · 25/03/2020 16:53

There is some evidence that you have immunity. There is a podcast (in German) by Christian Drosten, a German virologist who developed the original test for Covid 19. They injected the virus into some apes (poor apes) and the apes got sick and then recovered. They then reinfected them with a massive dose of the virus and they did not get ill.

He doesn’t mention it in the interview below, but he is worth reading (there are four pages). He is confident that if you have antibodies you are immune

Horehound · 25/03/2020 16:54

The test will not be for general public just yet. Said on the news just there

Rocketmam · 25/03/2020 16:55

The Gusrdian says self employed package being announced on Thursday

Do you think that's when they will announce tougher measures? There are still too many taking the piss.

Our local wood posted pictures on Facebook today of a packed carpark and large groups of people picnicking. Families had also just hopped over the padlocked fence to swarm the playground. They were pleading for people to stay local and stop driving to the park.

Horehound · 25/03/2020 16:56

It says the queen is in good health but if doesn't actually say if she is positive or not!

LambriniSocialist · 25/03/2020 17:01

as far as I'm aware, there's no evidence that having had it makes you immune

I must say I'm not expert, but surely the reason that anyone recovers from any virus, is because their body has produced enough antibodies to fight it? If you don't do this, then you die? So anyone who has had it and has recovered is definitely immune? But as others have said, mutations would screw this up.

Horehound · 25/03/2020 17:05

Is Boris shagging Laura K? He always goes to her first Wink preferential treatment!

middleager · 25/03/2020 17:08

Good point Hore

Horehound · 25/03/2020 17:08

Not much said in briefing tonight. They probably don't need one every day now?

Newjez · 25/03/2020 17:09

Think even Boris might be too busy for affairs ATM.
