@RunningAwayWithTheCircus

Without wanting to turn this into a debate of private vs state healthcare, have you experienced the Swiss system as someone with very little disposable income? Or as a homeless person?

SansaSnark · 25/03/2020 13:01

Speaking of homeless people, I saw two people sleeping rough in my town this morning when I went to the shops. We need to be making a mass effort to get all homeless people to somewhere they can self isolate safely.

Knowing my town, there will be B and Bs who could provide housing, and would probably be glad of the money right now.

I was just reading an article from america that says the nursing home in Washington state noticed that sufferers had red eyelids and underneath the eye. Do we think that is an actual symptom?

Dr Sarah Jarvis on Jeremy Vine this morning said they estimated it to be 2 metres , and very fine droplets so they go out 2 metres and then drop down to the floor .

FeatherCastle · 25/03/2020 13:06

Gara there is a fence, so unless the drops go up and over, we should be OK?

Coronavirus can travel twice as far as official ‘safe distance’ and stay in air for 30 minutes, Chinese study finds

Authorities advise people to stay 1-2 metres apart, but researchers found that a bus passenger infected fellow travellers sitting 4.5 metres away.

The scientists behind the research said their investigation also highlighted the importance of wearing face masks because of the length of time it can linger.

Chaos here as the local bakery has stopped accepting cash - apparently several cardless people had to go home empty handed.

Aurea · 25/03/2020 13:24

Went for my usual dog walk in the woods this morning. Met a group of eight elderly ramblers enjoying the sunshine and nature!!!!!!!!

defthand · 25/03/2020 13:25

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus

Yes, it is! The tube is an ideal super spreading environment for it. Interestingly, the Chinese found restricting all public transport was the thing that had the most impact on the virus’ reproduction value.

Also interesting to hear Prof Neil Ferguson (the Imperial fellow) stating that estimates of the R0 value have now been revised up from 2.6 to 3.
(Compared to 1.3 for influenza).

This thing is very contagious.

Angryrant55 · 25/03/2020 13:28

I think in Whuan healthcare workers moved into the hospitals to live.

Saucery · 25/03/2020 13:29

Eeyoresstickhouse yes, viral conjunctivitis.

SansaSnark · 25/03/2020 13:29

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus Fair enough - I am aware that some insurance based systems seem really good from the outside, but I've always wondered how they work for the more disenfranchised.

@defthand That study is interesting, but I'm wondering how they ruled out surface based transmission? Most people walking down a bus would touch seats on either side and there probably aren't decent handwashing facilities available.

I wouldn't want to be using public transport regardless, right now, though.

Skittlesss · 25/03/2020 13:35

Feather, if the fence is broken then that’s me and it’s just me - I cough at this time of year.

Petiolaris · 25/03/2020 13:39

I’m worried about my garden too. The selfish fucker next door approached the fence where my son was standing and spoke to him through the gaps.

SunshineCake · 25/03/2020 13:48

I have had very sore eyes too, like when you open your oven and the heat hits you. Very red and sore. Temp is up today but still within normal range.

Itscoldouthere · 25/03/2020 13:53

Don’t forget lots of people suffer from Hay Fever this time of year, I started sniffing last week then realised it’s just my usual hay fever, it doesn’t make me cough but some people with hay fever do cough.

NettleTea · 25/03/2020 14:08

yes, I woke up with a tight chest, and have had a little cough for a few days, including a tight chest yesterday.
But its a claggy top of the throat cough, probably caused by my coming off a massive dose of antibiotics that Ive been on for 2 weeks, which also explains the dodgy tum. And I get occassional asthma. I took an antihistamine this morning and the tightness has gone. Im now sleepy, but then thats the antihistamine.
But I could convince myself Ive got the virus if I thought about it too much.

middleager · 25/03/2020 14:11

My son had a nosebleed which he usually gets when run down and with asthma symptoms - triggered by hay fever.
What with being out in the garden and everyone mowing lawns, it's the perfect storm.

Angryrant55 · 25/03/2020 14:13

Sam Coates Sky - 'Downing Street Wednesday briefing.
Q: Could we see more restrictions on say construction workers when we get package for self employed tomorrow?
A: We have said if further steps required at a future point we won’t hesitate but we’ve set out the steps needed for now.'

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2020 14:31

Did I hear that right R4 Prince of Wales tested positive? At least they get a test.

AutumnRose1 · 25/03/2020 14:33

Yes Marsha

Does anyone know if there’s a briefing today and what time, please? Thank you.
