GALLUP: Donald Trump's job approval rating is 49%, the highest ever in his presidency.

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 19:09

Sky News Breaking - 'The Department of Health says the number of deaths from COVID-19 in Northern Ireland has risen to five after a patient in their eighties died at Antrim hospital.'

TheCanterburyWhales · 24/03/2020 19:09

The 30 days is a rolling 30 days. Tbh it's what we already knew really anyway, in that lockdown nationally came on 10/3 and is due to end/be reviewed on 3/4. Nobody is expecting to be going anywhere on 3/4!

mrshoho · 24/03/2020 19:12

@Rinoachicken That's how I see it too. Plus patients who may require medical care but not IC. There are going to be many people who may just need oxygen therapy but need to be isolated from other patients within our hospitals.

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 19:15

Arguably they wont want the terminal cases being moved en masse and lot of deaths in transit and the trauma that might bring to paramedics etc.

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 19:16

Gallup: 60 percent approve of Trump's handling of coronavirus crisis

AutumnRose1 · 24/03/2020 19:26

Canterbury quite alarming the powers they have

Interesting re Trump figures, I don’t see the point of surviving to find economic rubble either.

middleager · 24/03/2020 19:27

Coronavirus has made its way into a relative's retirement village. The patient was treated in hospital and residents confined to their apartments.

My mother (73) said "Well, the woman who caught it only had half a lung and she's fine now." Hmm

I tried to explain that each person is different and that at the moment there is bed and ventilator capacity. Also, we do not have immunity - you may be reinfected - and who knows what lasting damage it may have done.

It worries me that many happy-go-lucky types think that even if they contract it and are hospitalised it'll just require a friendly visit to the local hospital like in 'Only When I Laugh' (reference for over 40s only).

RedToothBrush · 24/03/2020 19:27

Re Trump: remember that because health care is wedded to employment, if the economy is shut down there is not healthcare.

The logic therefore is that as long as you can work you have healthcare.

The trouble with this is the lack of sickness pay and the lack of healthcare available even though you've paid for it when the healthcare system collapses due to sheer numbers.

That's the problem; for Americans if the economy goes so does their healthcare. If they say at work at least they have food and can pay the mortgage and have healthcare.

Until they don't.

It's the entire American system which is fucked up that's the problem.

MarshaBradyo · 24/03/2020 19:30

Red yeah that is a huge issue. Good point

Angryrant55 · 24/03/2020 19:30

LBC News - '500 British Transport Police officers will be on the rail network this evening to remind passengers that only those making essential journeys for work should be using the Tube and trains amid the #coronaviruslockdown.'

Seems pointless when tens of thousands manual workers are using it to get to and from work.

AutumnRose1 · 24/03/2020 19:32

What’s the deal with taxis at the moment? Have other countries stopped them operating?

SingforAbsolution · 24/03/2020 19:32

Just seen my first government information advert on BBC.

SummerSazz · 24/03/2020 19:37

I haven't seen how many tests there were. Is this ramping up?

NettleTea · 24/03/2020 19:41

I think Excel will be for new cases not yet needing intensive care, in hall A and 'recovery' in Hall B

mrshoho · 24/03/2020 19:41

Yes RTB the US system as it stands will not survive this tidal wave in its current form. It's all well for Trump to say back to work but the virus isn't going anywhere unless he can magic a vaccine from somewhere. I'm sure he would be willing to write off huge numbers of deaths (elderly and vulnerable) but the millions who will be unable to work due to illness will break the system.

MarshaBradyo · 24/03/2020 19:42

Awful to be in the US and feel so exposed.

PristineCondition · 24/03/2020 19:47

I started a thread with a few questions but hope its ok that i ask them here too.

I may sound thick but hey hoe I've got some questions i cant work out
I don't have any signs but live with someone on the critical list
1: if i show symptoms why can i be around my family after only 7 days? If I'm still sick surely they could still get it?

2: if i get sick then one of the others do can we isolate in the same room or different (tinytwo bed worry)

3: if a whole family were to isolate, if no one had symptoms after 14 days does that mean we def dont have it?

littledrummergirl · 24/03/2020 19:50

Mil is apparently self isolating. She lives in a retirement complex and the residents on the whole are following the rules.
Today her cleaner arrived and washed her hair for her as the hairdresser isn't going in! Head, bang, wall!
The cleaner also does a number of other flats. Wtaf.

SunshineCake · 24/03/2020 19:53

I've done it @Crimples and emailed the link to DH and DD.

RedToothBrush · 24/03/2020 20:01

Finally got my government text 20 mins ago.

Dh got it at 6.30pm.

I saw people were getting it at 8.20am this morning.

Clearly I'm at the bottom of the very long list (my mobile number is a very old one. Had the same number for 23 years).

AutumnRose1 · 24/03/2020 20:07

Red, is it alphabetical? My number is ancient and I got at it 8.20am.

Surname early in alphabet.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 24/03/2020 20:09

Red, I thought mine was old at about 15 years! Grin
Mine was through when I woke up at about 9. Not had my health one yet, which is making me feel a bit imposter-ish!!

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 24/03/2020 20:18

I’ve got an essential nurse visit in the morning. Weighing up seeing her on the drive...? Blush been self isolated/“cocooned” for 12 days now, don’t want to ruin it at the worst moment (ie as all of the beach idiots from the weekend get ill)

Elephantgrey · 24/03/2020 20:24

Interestingly my friend who is a first responder (volunteer in the ambulance service) has been told that he is not going to be called out to any 999 calls as they have no PPE.

I found that really surprising at a time when the NHS is asking for volunteers that their existing volunteers aren’t allowed. It’s is different to what the police are doing with special constibles.
