Do you normally exercise every day? If not, then just surely exercise as normal, maybe jog on the spot or do some star jumps at home
Okay if you live in a flat and want fresh air, but if not then just go in your garden surely.

It's not forever.

@Picklypickles don't forget the farmer's mum... !

I normally go to the gym, lots of classes on YouTube instead I can follow, also have weights and an exercise bike at home. I walk dog once a day as does dh so we’re continuing with that. Kids are mostly trampolining and playing basketball in garden, they’re not keen on dog walks normally and not changed their minds yet.

WatchingFromTheWings · 24/03/2020 14:05

@megletthesecond I timed it right! Decided I should stay away from the gym due to asthma. Ordered treadmill. Following day the leisure Center announced they were closing, the private gyms followed a couple of days later. Stuff started selling out and delivery slots filling up pretty quickly!

Unfortunately due to driver illness they can't deliver it till 3rd April now. Will be using workout dvds in the meantime!

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 24/03/2020 14:05

In that case, Picky contact the police. Nobody with that sort of attitude should be allowed a shotgun certificate (and would not be, if the firearms licencing officer got to hear about it). Though he would be allowed to shoot a dog worrying his stock.

WitsEnding · 24/03/2020 15:06

Thanks Errol, I will!

Delatron · 24/03/2020 15:15

Yep, I think I’ll listen to the government advice on this and they are very clear on it. You are allowed out to exercise once a day. I did a 7 mile run at 7am didn’t go near anyone else. Far healthier than sitting indoors and it puts nobody at risk. Those cramming on the tube however....

00100001 · 24/03/2020 15:39

But they're 'cramming' on the tube because there are fewer trains....

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 24/03/2020 15:48

But they're 'cramming' on the tube because there are fewer trains.

My brother works in London and he has to take public transport

No choice

fishonabicycle · 24/03/2020 15:54

My normal exercise is either walking to work and using the gym at lunchtime, or walking in the fields and woods, or walking into town to buy paper/whatever. Obviously I can't do most of those now, apart from walk in the woods so will do that when it's sunny, and do indoor gym/yoga too. I walk miles every week and love it.

LaurieMarlow · 24/03/2020 16:07

Fresh air and exercise are good for people's mental and physical health. Of course they should do it if its safe for them to do so.

iVampire · 24/03/2020 16:18

Seen on Twitter that France is imposing limits on runners - no more than an hour and all within 1km of your home

OTOH you can take your dog out for as many crapping breaks as you want, but there’s a strict limit on his far from your own front door (200m?)

oreoxoreo · 24/03/2020 16:19

I used to walk from the station to work or shops. None or this is possible now. So yes I am going to use my once in a day exercise to stay active.

2020newme · 24/03/2020 16:24

I usually do at least 10000 steps a day at work, but can't do that now. So, yes, I will be utilising my once a day exercise option.

I am actually protecting the NHS by doing this as I have an underlying health condition (hypermobility) which means my joints will seize up and I can become wheelchair bound if I don't keep moving.

Also, I will end up morbidly obese Blush

sleepwhenidie · 24/03/2020 16:30

The OP is ridiculous, people already exercising outdoors do not have some sort of divine right over others to be there. It’s like me, playing tennis all year round, even in the freezing cold, then saying that everyone who comes out of the woodwork around the time of Wimbledon should the allowed to play!

sleepwhenidie · 24/03/2020 16:30

should not be allowed to play

turkeyontheplate · 24/03/2020 16:33

I bought a treadmill a couple of weeks ago, anticipating this situation, and we've set it up under a gazebo outside with some exercise mats and dumbells. Not ideal, but it's keeping us sane (especially football-mad 15yo ds who is really struggling)

fudgefeet · 24/03/2020 16:39

We were going to go out for a run today. I’m not a regular runner but my daughter has gone from doing 10+ hrs of swimming a week to nothing and is climbing the walls. We live in a flat converted from a house.

I’m a bit embarrassed now as my neighbour who is a professional sports player has been quoted in the paper saying that people are being ridiculous to be out jogging now if it’s not in their usual routine. He has a big house and has been sent all the latest fitness equipment by his club so easier for him to get by. We have a hula hoop. Did have swing ball but it broke this afternoon so just the hula hoop.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 24/03/2020 16:39

Lots of countries say you have to stay within a certain distance of your home. 300 or 400 metres in Spain or France I think I read.

rookiemere · 24/03/2020 17:18

We have a friend in France - he is allowed to go out once a day for a maximum of an hour provided he stays within 1k of the house. That seems pretty reasonable and no different from the majority of posters who are proposing to go out would be doing.

Cinammoncake · 24/03/2020 17:40

That must be really hard for your dd fudgefeet

Well said

TotorosFurryBehind · 24/03/2020 20:46

Arg.. my comment was supposed to be in relation to Aesopfable comment, not the OP. Mental health is people's lives, so well said and pertinent

Zenithbear · 24/03/2020 20:51

Yes I normally wak my dogs twice a day and walk to work and back. I also go to the gym and swimming once or twice a week.
I don't want to take advantage and be out for hours and risk the powers that be taking that away from everyone so it's a lot less for me.
