DD(13) thinks he can carry on his paper round. I say no.

Who is right?

OP posts:

"old men who are just as capable of getting their own" are at greater risk of developing complications of coronavirus and putting strain on the health system.

ACupOfCoffee · 24/03/2020 12:53

By the way, I'm not saying that the specific 13 year old in the OP should continue with their paper round if the family decides the risk is too great.

Just that looking at bigger picture it's better for one person to deliver to many households, rather than many households going to the shop.

alloutoffucks · 24/03/2020 12:55

Yeah he is elderly and has diabetes and high blood pressure.
Personally I would prefer a full lock down, no going out except for essentials once or twice a week.
But as that is not happening, then his food and newspaper getting delivered lowers his risks.

What if a pack of badgers invade your house? ShockConfused

Anyone have the answer? Grin

Fleab1te · 24/03/2020 13:15

Well it isn't clear is it as there's so much disagreement. All of you who were being unpleasant towards the allotmenteer look pretty stupid now as actually it's fine. Use some common sense. Growing your own food keeps you away from the supermarkets. It's not that hard. As for the paper round...fuck knows...that's why there's still loads of people going to work because the definition of 'essential' is ambiguous and means different things to different people.

OrangeTwirl · 24/03/2020 13:37

Yes Fleab. That’s why we will soon be in total lockdown where nobody will be allowed to leave their houses. Because stupid people cannot understand “essential”.

My elderly neighbour knocked last week to ask me to get her a pack of 20 cigs. She thinks it’s essential she smokes. I have a lung and kidney problem. No chance of me battling with crowds of shoppers, contracting something nasty and bringing it home to my family for a pack of tabs. No chance!!

If she wanted essential items like food or medicine I would add it to my grocery or pharmacy list.

Stay home. Stay safe. That is all we are requested to do. And some people still can’t do it.

alloutoffucks · 24/03/2020 14:03

@MysteriesOfTheOrganism You have to learn to live with them until lock down is over.
Boris made that perfectly clear!

MarginalGain · 24/03/2020 16:40

People who can't work from home can go to work. Not sure how that's unclear, this provision was specifically outlined in Johnson's speech.

Delivering newspapers, catering to an almost exclusively elderly demographic, is a valuable service.

Yes, this.
