These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

The Government wants people to exercise. It has done a scientific exercise based on damage to people of not exercising against risk of going out and it wants you to. Remember there are also lots of deaths from things like lack of fitness, depression and obesity which have to be weighed up.

TooTrusting · 24/03/2020 22:33

2 teenagers stopped from playing tennis and sent home by police here today (South Wales). I would have thought that was within the rules - they were at a distance from each other and others, out for the purpose of taking exercising and it was a "gathering" of just 2.

Delatron · 24/03/2020 22:38

The government have been very clear about wanting to keep people exercising. They mention it at every press conference. I don’t know why people are twisting the rules or just picking the ones they agree with.

Yes you must practice social distancing whilst exercising but it is allowed!

Piggywaspushed · 24/03/2020 22:44

The tennis would involve picking up the ball that another person has touched. Tennis courts are also specifically mentioned as being closed, along with outdoor gyms, MUGAs, bowling greens, playgrounds.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 24/03/2020 22:46

Please don’t judge every teenager you see out and about though. I’m a single mum and live with two teen ds’s; I’m also disabled and have a chronic health condition. If my boys are out it’s because they’re buying necessary shopping for our family. Ds2 also offered to pick up food for his elderly grandparents. They won’t be unique, so please don’t judge.

ferrier · 24/03/2020 23:34

Perhaps the teenagers weren't from the same household.
Not all tennis courts have been told to close. Only those in enclosed spaces in parks .... from what I have read so far.

Kim1010 · 25/03/2020 00:20

Re question Walking the dog,
Yes the dog is just joining you doing yours

TooTrusting · 25/03/2020 00:33

I didn't realise tennis courts were. closed. These are open ones next to a beach, not in a park. The boys were not from the same household.

Inappropriatefemale · 25/03/2020 01:39

I didn’t ask if I was up to the job, I simply asked if I should apply and then I sort of realised why do I care what strangers think, it was more of a rhetorical thought that I typed out, the jobs are being advertised so the question I asked had a very obvious answer @OrangeTwirl.

There are hundreds of threads on MN where folks are asking strangers questions so mines should be no different, anyway I have now applied so hopefully I will be told soon that I do indeed get the job.Wink

ferrier · 25/03/2020 02:00

The boys were not from the same household.
That will be why they were sent home. Exercise is to be undertaken alone or with family members.
Which does seem at odds with the 'no gathering of more than 2 people' edict which would imply that 2 people from different households observing social distancing would be OK.

MissyJane2 · 25/03/2020 04:07

Can I take my kids with me to the supermarket (single parent)?

Come to think of it, I have not seen any mothers with kids since things got worse with this crisis and now this lockdown.

I think you should leave then at home with someone like a friend, it's safer for the kids to stay at home.

couchlover · 25/03/2020 04:50

I rang my mil last night and she told me how her neighbour was out yesterday trying to get her and fil some paint but whickes was closed. We said that's because we are on lockdown and neighbour shouldn't be going out for non essentials and paint is non essential. Oh well she is a carer so is allowed out! And she managed to get us some from b&m.

Mil just can't see what's wrong with this and clearly her neighbour can't. Even a lock down won't stop people leaving their homes.

Mountian · 25/03/2020 06:57

@MissyJane2

I think you should leave then at home with someone like a friend, it's safer for the kids to stay at home.

Please do not suggest that a parent leaves their children at home with anyone who is not already part of the household. That is potentially dangerous advice and contrary to the new guidelines.

Skittlesss · 25/03/2020 07:46

Re being a single parent. Can you leave the kids playing in the garden and a neighbour watching them from a few metres away whilst you go to the shop?

Countrygirl001 · 25/03/2020 08:26

"Yes I don’t think they can monitor how often you go out to exercise, I reckon they just want people to do it."

They! They? Who are "they"? Big brother? Surely anyone in their right mind want people to do it!

Oh and Boo hoo - I can't go for my run - what am I going to do?
Boo hoo! Fido wants his 3 walks but can only have 1.

Ffs - this is not forever, the sense of entitlement is breathtaking. It really is not the greatest sacrifice we're being asked. Kids of 16 lied about their age so they could go off to fight for their country in the 1st world war and all we're being asked to do is sit on our sofas.

Sorry no answers to the genuine dilemmas others have posted here.

OJZJ · 25/03/2020 08:31

If it's not been said already.
They are asking only key workers use public transport to minimalist risk.
A Dr was on the tube yest and made it public that it was so crowded he was putting his health at risk to go to work to save the lives of others.
Owner of the big dog, if it needs 3 walks a day as it's such a big dog ect can you run it by your bike cross country? I Used to do that about 25 yrs ago when I could cycle that fast and lived with a lazy git who never exercised their collie...
Our neighbours are another bunch who think the laws don't apply to them, two have had BBQ, one has had a hot tub party and the woman opposite who is a mobile care worker for the elderly has at least half a dozen teenagers 16-19 constantly milling in and out of her property day and night ....

OJZJ · 25/03/2020 08:40

Countrygirl my sentiments exactly....
These will be the first to demand the NHS for care when they get ill from doing what the laws that didn't apply to them told us to- possibly taking care away from someone who stuck to the rules but is seriously ill from something else.
Someone on another page has started a petition demanding more benefits (not working-single mum)during the corona as she is being made to stop at home with her kids instead of taking a cut like the majority Confused I am also on a low income before people slam me. It's just amazing the sense of entitlement this generation has.

Hamouchi · 25/03/2020 08:57

I think small shop are all open as they said in the list corner shop

OrangeTwirl · 25/03/2020 08:59

I didn’t ask if I was up to the job, I simply asked if I should apply and then I sort of realised why do I care what strangers think, it was more of a rhetorical thought that I typed out, the jobs are being advertised so the question I asked had a very obvious answer @OrangeTwirl**

If your question had a very obvious answer how come nobody answered?

Let’s think... maybe because most people have a lot to worry about at the moment. Nobody cares whether you apply for a job or not. Got it?

PorpentinaScamander · 25/03/2020 09:06

Sorry if this has been answered, I have skimmed the thread and didnt see it...

My landlord has booked a builder to come and give a quote next week. Landlord says its still going ahead. If builders are even still open can I cancel? I'm sure the work can wait ive been waiting 2 years as it is a bit longer wont hurt

RoombaSavedMySanity · 25/03/2020 09:09

Let’s think... maybe because most people have a lot to worry about at the moment. Nobody cares whether you apply for a job or not. Got it?

Similarly, no one cares that you think no one cares. Maybe just give the other poster a break and stop being such a dick?

Palavah · 25/03/2020 09:15

You can generally pay in cheques online/on mobile app. You can also post them.

OrangeTwirl · 25/03/2020 09:22

Similarly, no one cares that you think no one cares. Maybe just give the other poster a break and stop being such a dick?

Just replying to a question she asked me. Is that allowed?

RubySunset · 25/03/2020 09:29

Let’s think... maybe because most people have a lot to worry about at the moment. Nobody cares whether you apply for a job or not. Got it?

That's not just answering a question, that's trying to be insulting at the same time. Trying to answer the question would have been something like "possibly, people felt it was so obvious they didn't need to answer" not "No one cares" or "Got it?". These are aggressive phrases designed to belittle the other poster.

Everyone's lost their minds and become so nasty in the process.

OrangeTwirl · 25/03/2020 09:46

RubySunset. You’re reply to me is no more kind than my reply to the poster who is keeping on about a job.

If someone tags me in their questions I guess I’m just supposed to ignore them....maybe that’s best actually.

So person asking a load of strangers in the internet whether you should apply for a job and then tag me in future correspondence.... Don’t tag me... I don’t care about your job. I have close family members working in front line. Myself and my adult children have given up our jobs because the risk to our health simply isn’t worth it.

If you want to go for a job where you will be in contact with thousands of people a day. Go for it.... there was no point in anyone saying that in response to your first post because what would have ensued would have beeb .... somebody needs to keep the supplies in the shelf yada yada...

As I said there is no point asking anyone else if you should go for this job. It’s entirely up to you!
