Are these things allowed in lockdown?

These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 24/03/2020 15:52

Vets are conserving oxygen for the NHS so no emergency procedures requiring anaesthesia say my vets.

AmberAndAlexsMum · 24/03/2020 17:30

Mot still needed, garages are considered essential so should be open
Delivery still ongoing, so send your stuff.

MermaidinJeans · 24/03/2020 17:35

Dog walking is permitted as part of the one form of exercise people can take a day. Households with two or more members can take it in turns to walk their dog so the dog gets more than one walk a day
To look after any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
To donate blood
Under-18s of separated parents can visit both homes
To travel to and from work “but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home”

I booked an MOT for this week and the centre closed down and cancelled my car service and mot. How do I insure without an mot?

VerbenaGirl · 24/03/2020 17:35

The garage we take our car to has shut, but they have given a mobile number for any keyworkers whose cars need urgent attention.

timeforacuppa28 · 24/03/2020 17:39

Children travelling between parents is allowed

sabbii · 24/03/2020 17:44

yes, confirmed on BBC and other websites, see useful link below
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-51176409
I just booked mine for next week

Xenia · 24/03/2020 17:46

I think currently unless you have an ill family member at home you still have to get an MOT and cannot get insurance nor drive nor buy food to live without one.

"It continued: “The Department for Transport is urgently looking at MOT testing for cars, motorcycles and light vans in light of the current situation and will provide an update shortly. Annual tests for lorries, buses and trailers have already been suspended for up to three months.”

It had previously told Fleet News that if the MOT expires during a period of self-isolation, drivers can make an application to SORN their car or van and apply for an MOT test once their period of self-isolation is over.

Garages are currently on the exemption list for businesses that must close. Some garages will remain open for now and will be providing 'critical services' to cars and vans due for MOT, for the time being."

Gill54 · 24/03/2020 17:47

I’m confused with the difference between house and home!! House is the bricks and mortar - but I’m ordering I can let the two little Ines run riot in the back garden all day long if necessary??

steppemum · 24/03/2020 17:48

BBC talked about MOT at lunchtime.
At the moment garage is open for MOT for cars. Trucks and buses ahve already suspended MOT testing.

It is likely that MOT for cars will be suspended, but they aren't yet, so MOT appointment should go ahead. Garages are on the open list, not just petrol stations, so if you need an urgent repair, you should be able to get it done.
But in the spirit of the lockdown, if it can wait, don't do it now.

timeforacuppa28 · 24/03/2020 17:49

This has been updated by Michael Gove today, children under 18 can travel between their parents houses

lunakitty2609 · 24/03/2020 17:49

@Hannsmum
Pretty sure I read that gas/electricity meters will be put on hold if you can't get out to top-up.. Maybe ring your supplier and check.

timeforacuppa28 · 24/03/2020 17:50

This is a wind up, right?

OhMyDarling · 24/03/2020 17:51

Dear god I really don’t understand. Do you want to die? Do you want you loved ones to die?
No?????
Then the dog gets one walk a day and you do some sit ups or run up the stairs.
Stop being so selfish, entitled and precious.

If you flout the rules I think you should be denied all medical treatment should you get it.

That might sort some of your ridiculous priorities out.

Everydayishistorytomorrow · 24/03/2020 17:53

Post offices are seen as essential.
Walking your dog is allowed maintaining the 2m rule is allowed.
Exercise outside maintaining 2m Social Distancing rule is allowed.

You can go into shops for food or posting but maintain the 2m rule. I still see people queuing behind each other (madness)!

Do not go for a walk or a run with friends.
Do not take your dog out in a group walk.
Do not queue either outside or inside ANY shop or enclosed space without observing the Social Distancing 2m rule.

Jojooldham · 24/03/2020 17:53

What about estate agents and surveys being done? Are they allowed? Xxx

Oscarsdaddy · 24/03/2020 17:56

Parcel delivery couriers are still working so your parcels will be delivered

Waking the dog is fine, just no meeting up for a chat with other dog walkers

We’ve still got local feral kids playing outside here running in and out of each other’s houses. Parents are as thick as treacle !

goodeyebrows · 24/03/2020 17:59

I’m going with:
You can, but should you?
If the answer is yes you should then yes do it. If your trying to bend the rules to suit you then don’t.
I think if people really think carefully then it’ll answer (most of your) your question (s)

Shona52 · 24/03/2020 18:01

My MOT was cancelled this morning

Find more info here

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.fleetnews.co.uk/amp/news/fleet-industry-news/2020/03/24/garages-will-remain-open-for-car-and-van-mots-for-the-time-being-says-the-dvsa

You get automatic 3 month extension for any mot that has been booked and cancelled

cactus2020 · 24/03/2020 18:01

Can't see a problem with going to tend allotment as your daily exercise provided not chatting to people. No different to a daily walk and at ours, actually more space than footpaths near us which are full of people apparently oblivious to social distancing when passing ..

Ifeelsuchafool · 24/03/2020 18:05

Wrt dog walking I suppose, unless you live alone with your dog, then each member of the household does a dog walk as their exercise? Thereby ensuring multiple daily walks for Fido?

Comefromaway · 24/03/2020 18:06

MOT - garages classed as essential to keep transport going. No leeway on MOT running out. Some garages may struggle fir staff/open reduced hours

Paper Round - newspapers/newsagents/journalists classed as essential in public communication

Building merchants - some are still open for essentials eg showrooms closed but emergency breakdown parts. Several of our suppliers are asking orders to phoned through first.

dog walking - either your excercise or animal care.

Fish - again animal care. Fish shops open for food/medicine etc but not new fish/ornamental plants etc

Off licence - probably allowed under local corner shops

timeforacuppa28 · 24/03/2020 18:08

@okiedokieme the nail extensions thing is a wind up, right?

clarehhh · 24/03/2020 18:12

Yes they just discussed that on radio 4 today

barbsbarbs · 24/03/2020 18:26

If your having to ask what is allowed(what we can get away with), then youre not getting it.
