These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

OP posts:
Vynalbob · 24/03/2020 18:28

Everything you mentioned is allowed.
Don't think of it as all I can buy / sell is essentials... It's just that shops that don't sell any essentials food / medicine should shut... The premises if you sell a few things from home and either get shipper to collect or post in post box while on your essential exercise then that is fine.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 24/03/2020 18:40

What a daft thing to ask. Send your ebay stuff. Use your common sense its literally easy. Instead of asking eco warriors and bra burners

PamSav · 24/03/2020 18:42

Coronavirus: Can my car still get an MOT? And other questions www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-51176409

jillb55 · 24/03/2020 18:42

I think driving is OK because you are not in contact with other people so I would say yes to the MOT. Also sending stuff is still going on. It is all about contact with others.

PamSav · 24/03/2020 18:44

Both of your questions are answered in the above link. I can’t understand why people don’t check trusted sources of information instead of asking questions that have easily found answers. Took me literally 2 seconds to find that link 😡

Inappropriatefemale · 24/03/2020 18:55

@OrangeTwirl if there is no point asking people things on the internet then what’s the point of Mumsnet at all?Confused

Mba1974 · 24/03/2020 18:55

Mumsnet needs to start monitoring these threads better... Cats can catch COVID-19 and pass it on! I have truly seen it all now.. it is utterly irresponsible to allow this kind of hysterical crap to be posted and left on here. If you’re not quoting WHO guidelines please just stop.. this whole situation including the entire raft of posters looking for “outs” from the rules which are clear as day makes me wonder whether a little Darwinian survival of the brightest cleanse isn’t such a bad thing. Companion pets cannot catch and transmit to humans and it’s really simple just stay the f**k at home unless you cannot survive (as in stay alive) otherwise. Just incredulous.....

Inappropriatefemale · 24/03/2020 18:58

To all those that are worried about staying fit, why not just download an exercise app and do it at home? That’s what I’m doing, sure you may not be able to go for a run inside the home but there are other forms of exercise.Smile

bonbonours · 24/03/2020 19:04

Garages are specifically mentioned in the government document. However the main dealer I was due to use this morning for a very specific problem which can't be fixed by my local garage told me they are closed. This leaves me with no car for goodness knows how long. Luckily I don't need it to get to work, but I am worried about the fact I now can't help my parents and in-laws if they get ill.

Jem57 · 24/03/2020 19:06

I live on a main road and everybody on our estate has to pass our house to leave.Believe me people are not sticking to the rules, especially young teenagers, why aren’t their parents laying the law. Also dog walkers, seen the same people going past several times and I am not even spying, just sitting on the settee. This is not going to work.

unambiguousbeard · 24/03/2020 19:15

@Jojooldham my survey was cancelled for tomorrow. God knows if my move will happen. First brexit now this.. and I know there are bigger things but it's very frustrating. Living in the family home while exH rents....

LostaraYil · 24/03/2020 19:22

I live in a small village and went for a run this afternoon and saw more people than I have ever seen on the same route! Not saying it's a problem and we kept our distance, but I was surprised! Mostly families with young children, and it's good that they're getting out for some exercise, hopefully once a day when parents finish work.

Ken1976 · 24/03/2020 19:23

I’ve had 3 deliveries today of household stuff that we ordered over the past few days

OrangeTwirl · 24/03/2020 19:27

@OrangeTwirl if there is no point asking people things on the internet then what’s the point of Mumsnet at all

How on earth can anyone answer a complete stranger whether she should apply for a supermarket job or not?

The only person who knows if she us up to the job is the poster herself

ACertainSupermarket · 24/03/2020 19:33

Here's a handy helper:
If in doubt, don't.

ThistleTits · 24/03/2020 19:40

MOTs have been suspended for 3 months.

TightPants · 24/03/2020 19:49

New rules this evening, no mention of being allowed to exercise outside. Proper lockdown.

Are these things allowed in lockdown?
MrsMozartMkII · 24/03/2020 19:53

The link that one gives still shows outside exercise as being allowed:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/full-guidance-on-staying-at-home-and-away-from-others

RichardMarxisinnocent · 24/03/2020 19:54

If you click on the full guidance link it still says you can exercise outside. They aren't going to change that rule without properly announcing it at a briefly - they certainly won't just change the website and hope people go to it and notice.

SingleDadReally · 24/03/2020 20:05

People need to think about these issues. Imagine a pyramid. At the very top is someone who lives on their own, in the middle of nowhere, is totally self sufficient in food, has a well stocked freezer and a large garden to exercise in. They are going to have no need to interact with anyone or leave their premises-perfect! They are not going to be infected or infect anyone else. You should aim to not be in contact with anyone outside your household. I can’t believe the police will be bothered about your MOT expiring during this crisis. It is obviously necessary to do some things which are a risk, but the relevant word is necessary.

ferrier · 24/03/2020 20:40

Enclosed spaces in parks including tennis courts and pitches for football, bowling etc, and outdoor gyms

What exactly does this mean? Since when have football pitches and bowling greens been enclosed. Even some tennis courts aren't enclosed so are they OK to use. And are the same facilities in private places OK to use (assuming by one family only)?

In answer to a pp about why not download an exercise app - because some people don't exercise effectively this way, some people prefer fresh air, etc. etc. It's not a case of trying to flout the rules, it's trying to ascertain exactly what the rules are and the spirit of the rules in order to (in the case of exercise) keep the best level of fitness we can because, you know, being fit and healthy is one of the best ways of fighting off the virus and generally reducing the burden on the NHS.

Mdms02 · 24/03/2020 20:50

The point is, is is dangerous for everyone if you leave your home. Be a responsible citizen and stay home unless absolutely necessary. People are dying and the NHS are already strained. All the data shows we are on track to be in exactly the same situation as Italy within a few weeks, possibly sooner. Walk the dog as little as possible (I have a dog and she has adapted). Every bit of contact creates potential exposure. There are many more cases than reported in the media because only people who need hospitalisation are tested. Stop trying to bend the rules, please. Unless you rather more people die and lock down last even longer. Do your bit.

MugsOfTea · 24/03/2020 21:20

New rules this evening, no mention of being allowed to exercise outside. Proper lockdown

This has already been covered on mn and the thread claiming the same thing was pulled for spreading misinformation.

There are not new rules. Exercise is still allowed - it's covered under 'health reasons' as us medical care.

Delatron · 24/03/2020 21:36

The rules haven’t changed you are allowed to go outside to exercise once per day. The government has said it’s ok so I’ll listen to them rather than ranty (that autochanged to randy!) people on Mumsnet.

I wish people on here would stop swearing at people who are following government advice. It doesn’t say only 1k from your block and there is no time limit specified.

nicenewdusters · 24/03/2020 22:14

Risk to life of not leaving your home to "exercise" - 0%

Risk to life, yours and others, if you do - definitely over 0%

Everyone can manage to refrain from exercising outside for 3 weeks, it's just that not everybody wants to.

You can't always have what you want. I'd like to pretend I don't live in a country full of selfish morons. I'm not going to get that wish am I?
