StCharlotte who are the unclean please? Sorry, I probably missed an in joke.

For those who like to wave at the International Space Station

Bunnyflop · 25/03/2020 20:07

@StCharlotte you are so lucky having an allotment. I dream of having one but I’m just not well enough to do all the digging etc and dh is always either working or knackered.

M0reGinPlease · 25/03/2020 20:16

Thanks @AutumnRose1 that's fab! Love a wave at the ISS.

gingerbreadslice · 25/03/2020 20:32

@givemeacall I think so too just don't know how I'd deal with the unknown of having to find another private rent if the landlord ever wanted the property back. I don't think we will ever be able to save enough to get a mortgage at this rate either to have our own home.

@givemeacall that's the same as my mum 10 years and no problems but now he wants to sell up and retire so my mum might have to find some where else and the rent is crazy high Shock

Arcadia · 25/03/2020 20:52

Good news that Italy figures have dropped again today so they are now dropping down from their peak.

tobee · 25/03/2020 21:43

Just had a nice chat with my 83 year old mum. My df has apparently mostly been sitting reading in the sun, heaven for him!

Only thing is been trying to remotely re connect her to her laptop so she can Skype etc more easily. She can't get her new password to work. She's not too fussed because she has her smart phone. My df not fussed as he's not interested in the internet Grin. It's so annoying that I can't work out how to help her. 🤷🏻‍♀️

No in-joke, I just meant "everyone else" Smile

Was it you who ordered a "blue moon" rose? We had one. It wasn't very prolific (probably down to us!) but OMG the scent! And the colour is gorgeous too.

tobee · 25/03/2020 22:03

Bit freaked out to realise that I'll have known Dh for 40 years this year!! ShockShockShock

Bunnyflop · 25/03/2020 22:04

@stcharlotte yes it’s me. I’m glad to hear it smells good. Hope it does ok for us. We have had good success with David Austin roses but this is our first hybrid tea. I’ll chuck a load of miracle grow on the roots and hope for the best!

What are you growing on your allotment?

WhatHoJeeves · 25/03/2020 22:56

I am quite new to Mumsnet and have been horrified at the hostility, spite, and doom-mongering going on right now. The endless churning over every last piece of second-hand news and the angry self-righteousness ... and if I see the horrid phrase 'shit show' one more time!

I was going to give up but this thread is a little piece of sanity and kindness.

No doubts about CV being dreadful and I have so much admiration for the NHS workers, but today the sun shone, the sky was a clear blue, the birds sang, we walked in deserted countryside, were all together as a family, and ate well.

I'm grateful for the small things and I'm hopeful!

Sleep well all.

HonestlyItsFine · 25/03/2020 23:59

I've had to work in my essential job the last few days.
I walked to work this morning. It was a lovely day, and very quiet. I met one person (neither of us crossed the road- as suggested elsewhere on this site- we just passed in the street like normal people!) and no traffic on an otherwise busy road. The birds were singing, the sun was trying to shine and I just stopped and really got time to look around and appreciate nature for a few minutes.

One day closer to the end. Goodnight all.

AutumnRose1 · 26/03/2020 00:06

I just found a mixtape- CD - that my bestie made for me about 20 years ago. Memories!

Here’s one of the songs, anyone remember it?

Millie2013 · 26/03/2020 06:05

Retro! I remember that song

How is everyone today? Flowers Another day of home schooling here, while juggling work. Need to call and get a couple of things for isolating neighbours and sort ponies first. Hoping for outside tea and lunch breaks again, even though it’s going to be slightly cooler than yesterday...

Going to avoid the news as much as I can too, I think I’ve reached a point of acceptance that I can’t do any more than I am already

Bunnyflop · 26/03/2020 06:20

@WhatHoJeeves there has always been a lot of hysteria on this site but it’s got unbearable now. I don’t come on MN anymore apart from here.

Would anyone else like to have a positive mental health thread even when this is all over? I would.

AssangesCat · 26/03/2020 06:22

All you people having sunny days! It's been overcast for three days here in Edinburgh. The odd patch of blue if you're lucky. Fortunately, I quite like a dreich day, as we call it round here.

DS (11yo) utterly unphased by school closure and lockdown, quite enjoying it in fact. We're both enjoying the complete absence of rushing. No need to harass him to get shoes on and teeth clean because we're running late. His teachers have set enough work that he's happy to do that we scarcely have time for all the stuff I thought I'd need to stop him getting bored. An on-line chess club has been set up, which delights him as his year group was not allowed to attend school chess club, for reasons I never understood.

To be honest, if anything, I'm more content than I was before.

Spudlet · 26/03/2020 07:25

@Bunnyflop Yes, I would. It’s nice.

MN has also launched a corona-free zone if anyone would like a completely virus-free chat. There are a few threads going there, about gardening, pets, nature watch and so on.

Pleased to see Italy getting over the peak. Things are getting tighter every day less people out.

I am painting a ceiling today. Just trying to do stuff bit by bit day by day.

Stay safe people.

whenwillthemadnessend · 26/03/2020 07:53

Oops accidentally hid the thread. Trying to re join

StCharlotte · 26/03/2020 07:56

@Bunnyflop

Just the basics this year, potatoes, tomatoes, onions and squash and whatever seeds are in the shed. As I said we weren't organised in time this year.

My sister gave me a "New Dawn" (also deliciously scented) rose from David Austin which is the one we had in our garden growing up. Not sure where to plant it as it's a rampant climber. Would love it up the house but there's no soil by the house. And I don't think next door would appreciate us taking over their fence! Especially as they had the same rose a few years ago and dug it up Angry

ExpletiveDelighted · 26/03/2020 08:05

Morning all, I'm another one with an allotment, I am going to try and avoid busy times (went on Sunday afternoon and there were lots of people up there). Our plots are very small and we are a chatty bunch so I need to be disciplined about this. Yesterday I went up at 4 and there were only a couple of other people around. I haven't planted any seeds yet, need to get cracking.

My DCs have taken well to home schooling (teens), I'm actually more concerned now about how they will fill their days in the Easter holidays. One is in GCSE year so would have been working flat out but the motivation has dwindled a bit now. We will have to look for other online resources and get them gardening.

AutumnRose1 · 26/03/2020 08:29

when I am so shit at ceiling painting, last time i redecorated, I just didn’t do ceilings 😳

I figure it’s only me who notices!
