Is this a social experiment?

Is anyone else panicking about this emergency act about to go through?

I just heard about it on the radio.

Are we all walking blindly into this?

Our freedom is being snatched from us while we are blindfolded with fear.

We must wake up!

Take your tin foil hat off for a bit!

DonPablo · 23/03/2020 19:02

But what's the other option? No legislation?

iklboo · 23/03/2020 19:03

This explains why ASDA is out of tin foil.

SudokuQueen · 23/03/2020 19:03

If its a social experiment, we are failing badly.

Thespiceisright · 23/03/2020 19:05

I’m not sure if it’s a social experiment but I find it shocking that the people are calling for their liberty to be taken so easily.

BoingBoingyBoing · 23/03/2020 19:05

No. Don't be fucking stupid.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 23/03/2020 19:05

Our freedom is being snatched away because some people can't figure out how to stay more than two metres away from each other. It's not fucking rocket science is it. It didn't need to come to this

Buttercup54321 · 23/03/2020 19:06

So what do you suggest?

BoingBoingyBoing · 23/03/2020 19:06

People are calling for their liberties to be taken - temporarily - to save lives, because the large number of fuckwits in society think that they outsmart a virus.

PeraltasWife · 23/03/2020 19:07

Think the wifi must be scrambling your brain...maybe turn it off for a bit hun Hmm

Wannabangbang · 23/03/2020 19:09

Freedom😏you won't have any if you die. Look at it that way STAY AT HOME

Reginabambina · 23/03/2020 19:10

Well it’s certainly interesting how quickly people accept (even ask for) restrictions on their own movements when there is mass panic. The vast majority of people don’t even have anything to legitimately fear in this scenario and yet they’re asking for military to be called in to prevent people from going out. It’s something that would have been unimaginable a few weeks ago. It’s interesting to see how quickly mentality can change.

TheQueef · 23/03/2020 19:10

If people can't just stay in for my liberty (life) I won't defend theirs.
Risking whole chunks of population for someone's tempory liberty is ridiculous.

Thespiceisright · 23/03/2020 19:10

BoingBoingyBoing

People were quick to call for laws to call freedom of speech a hate crime. Now women get arrested for telling the truth.

Be careful what you wish for

BoingBoingyBoing · 23/03/2020 19:11

"The vast majority of people don’t even have anything to legitimately fear in this scenario"

oh for fucking fuck sake.

TipseyTorvey · 23/03/2020 19:11

Okay even if you thought all the China videos were fake, do you really think all the Italian ones are too? If they wanted to legislate to limit freedom they'd have found a way to do it without completely destroying the economy surely? Cummings is an evil vile repugnant twat yes, but even he couldn't have cooked this up.

Chillyourbeans · 23/03/2020 19:12

We were asked nicely and couldn't comply so now we're being told. No great conspiracy theories required, they're simply trying to keep us alive.

BoingBoingyBoing · 23/03/2020 19:12

"Be careful what you wish for"

I wish for the NHS to be able to cope with the shitstorm that is about to hit us. Pretty fucking simple.

Yarboosucks · 23/03/2020 19:12

Thank god you are hear to explain what is really going on! What would be do with out your incredible insight. How did you manage to reach the keyboard past all the toilet paper?

NellyGrace · 23/03/2020 19:15

Last week the majority on here were mocking the few who were worried- of which I was one.

There is a big difference between being concerned/taking precautions and handing your whole life away. If we have to live like this we might as well be dead.

I find it shocking that the people are calling for their liberty to be taken so easily.

I'd rather my liberty be taken than my life.

All those people bunched together in various parks, coastal areas and so on at the weekend are threatening the lives of all of us. Do you really think it shocking that some of us think we all need to be protected from their stupidity. And indeed they need to be protected from their own stupidity.

If everyone had followed government advice about social distancing perhaps 'the people' wouldn't be eager to have a lockdown.

picklemewalnuts · 23/03/2020 19:16

"The vast majority of people don’t even have anything to legitimately fear in this scenario"
Regina by the time you count NHS workers, care workers, people with underlying health conditions, people over the age of 70 and al, the people who love them, then there's a lot of people with legitimate reason to fear.

iklboo · 23/03/2020 19:16

Christ on a socially distanced bike.

TotesGodsWill · 23/03/2020 19:17

They tried the soft touch approach but too many people decided to prove just how stupid they are

Everyone who went to the pub and to crowded parks and beaches and shopping (other than essentials) in the last few days is to blame for whatever happens next

BoingBoingyBoing · 23/03/2020 19:18

Yeah, having to stay inside your house for a few months while still enjoying all the benefits of 21st century life in order to save thousands if not millions of lives is definately not worth it.

Full lockdowns are required because people like you can't grow up and take some personal responsibility.
