I’ve been dry coughing for a few days now, not really felt like I have a temperature, just decided to ride it out and look after myself. This morning I have started coughing up gunk, my chest is even tighter and I get out of breath really quickly. I don’t want to be a burden on 111, and my own GP is closed. I am still ok to ride it out and look after myself aren’t I? I’m young and healthy usually and I don’t want to take up any resources for those who need it.

Moo, yes my heartbeat is between 96-120 bpm i can feel it in my throat. Swallowing food is just impossible for me at the minute. I can cope with the shallow breathing/chest pain at rest its the overhwhelming sensations of dizziness/shakes/fever that I get very upset at as they feel never ending and consume me. Like a very bad roller coaster ride and I’m desperate to get off

MooPointCowsOpinion · 29/03/2020 14:26

@TheDrsWife46 I think you are a day or two ahead of me, my heart rate is 100. I know what you mean about the panic, it’s horrible, a real sense of dread when my heart races. You need to call 111 or an ambulance now I think.

GP rang me yesterday and said unless Im absolutely gasping for air then try to manage at home. I can manage the tight chest/breathing if i sit stock still its the uncontrollable fever/chills etc that puts me into despair. Right now im sitting rigid on the sofa counting each hour that im through it a success.

Notmymug · 29/03/2020 15:01

It’s heartbreaking reading this, any other time you would both be receiving proper medical care, it must be so frightening feeling so unwell and on your own.

I am hoping you both get through this Flowers

GreyGardens88 · 29/03/2020 15:03

I wouldn't bother with 111 unless you want to be on hold for an hour and a half before giving up anyway

MooPointCowsOpinion · 29/03/2020 17:57

111 answered my call in 40 minutes yesterday. Different areas might have different call rates, I was put through to a neighbouring county because my own county was overwhelmed.

incognitomum · 29/03/2020 19:30

Notmymug I know it's like a never ending nightmare.

How old are you both if you don't mind my asking?

MooPointCowsOpinion · 29/03/2020 19:38

I’m 33, regular gym user, walk 15,000 steps a day for work. Size 14/16, but I am bulky with muscle so my BMI is high. Only a tiny prior health complaint, nothing that affects me day to day. Honestly thought I would be completely safe, kept saying I would be the last teacher standing at work and would go in however much they wanted me. I’m the only one this poorly that I know of!

How are you both ?

morethanmeetstheeye · 29/03/2020 22:02

How are you both doing? Been thinking about you xxx

TheDrsWife46 · 29/03/2020 22:07

Im 41, size 14 not particularly healthy just average. I am asthmatic as ive had a pulmonary embolism in the past and developed asthma after.

My breathing is okay although I have pain in my chest/burning sensation in my lungs but i am overwhelmed at the sensations in my body. Its happening again and makes me very overwhelmed andfrightened. Its like my skin is burned, full of fire. It waves over my body, my legs shake uncontrollably like cramps. The best way i can describe it is like my body has been poisoned like im fighting a toxin. I find it very very upsetting and currently cant see any way out of it. The breathing is very shallow and painful but because that remains constant it doesnt alarm me like the convulsive feelings pulsating in my body

Bubu222 · 29/03/2020 22:29

Call 111 when you become breathless, don’t wait

incognitomum · 29/03/2020 22:39

MooPoint and TheDrs thank you for telling us about yourselves.

I really hope you both improve very soon.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 29/03/2020 22:42

I’ve managed to doze on and off, but I keep waking myself up with a weird grunting noise when I breathe out. Apparently that means my lungs are struggling to stay ‘open’, what the hell happens if they close?! I’m calling 111 to ask.
@TheDrsWife46 cramps in the legs is a sign of lack of oxygen, I only know that because I googled it because my legs are cramping like mad. Have you called 111 yet?

OP posts:
TheDrsWife46 · 29/03/2020 22:43

What I will say if anyone else gets ill. Whilst we cant prove this is “it” without a test. The threads show people suffering with similar patterns of illness and a resounding opinion that we have never felt like this before. Being able to talk on threads to others working through it at home is exceptionally heartening.

TheDrsWife46 · 29/03/2020 22:45

I called 111 yesterday but i have an oximeter on my finger keeping me calm and reassured. I too was grunting when I tried to sleep at 4am yesterday so i phoned DH to come down and watch me sleep from across the room.

When i rang 111 it was to plead for sedatives to knock me out. They refused as they slow breathing down

sakura06 · 29/03/2020 22:46

Please call 111! If you are struggling to breathe, you need help.

sakura06 · 29/03/2020 22:48

In fact, I think you should both call 999 (OP and the @TheDrsWife46).

TheDrsWife46 · 29/03/2020 22:50

The thing is and I bet moo feels the same. That unless you are gasping and you cannot talk there is nothing they can do. It is the most frightening, lonely, helpless state ive ever been in but hospital has to be the absolute last resort

incognitomum · 29/03/2020 22:51

It must be terrifying Sad

You both sound desperately ill. I agree you need help.

Jobseeker19 · 29/03/2020 22:55

How bad do they want you to be!
This is madness

Chickydoo · 29/03/2020 22:57

You poor thing, I hope you feel better soon x

RLOU30 · 29/03/2020 23:00

This is bloody awful reading. How unwell do you have to be? You both sound like you need to be seen at hospital to me.
Take care I will wish for your speedy recoveries tonight.

MiggyMoggyMoo · 29/03/2020 23:06

Jeez, this makes for scary reading! Hope you're both ok

ParsleyPot · 29/03/2020 23:19

Hope you both feel a lot better soon. ThanksThanks
