Ffs neighbours are having a garden party

WTAF!?
Just popped out to hang my washing. My dc joined me for a run around.
Lots of noise coming from the neighbours garden (next door but one). Including a continuous cough.
They’ve got four extra cars parked on their drive.
What’s wrong with people?
Why would people do this?

Their are posters here who are very definite in their pronouncements and very quick to criticise others but do not state why they are qualified to do so.
I met with one of my DC today. We had a walk in a very remote area and only met 3 other walkers, all were at a distance. Social distancing can involve walking as long as you stay 2m apart.
The walk was DC’s idea, DC is a medical registrar and is working in a CV-19 unit. I prefer to believe them.

Google “what Italians would have told themselves 10 days ago, if they knew what was happening now”

It’s sobering.

But some of you will keep twisting the advice in your mind to self-justify.

Say oh it’s just bossy people being bossy. 2m is fine. I need it for my mental health.

The disease will be mild for a lot of people, but for the vulnerable few it will be fatal.

I would hate to be the cause of that. How about you?

To be so weak willed I couldn’t self isolate for a few weeks to help “flatten the curve” for the NHS.

But yeah you’ve already stopped reading and are rolling your eyes, because you think you know better than doctors, and the WHO, andCDC and NHS.

Ok.

What scares me really is when someone is admitted to hospital for CoViD they are placed in isolation. Turned every 13 hours. Minimum contact. Pray there’s enough ventilators. And if you die while in isolation you die completely alone.

I don’t want anyone I love, or my friends loved ones to have to die like that. Do you?

I've had probably the worst Mother's Day of my life. Couldn't visit my own 80+ year old mum, couldn't see my own dcs or dgc. I'm in the 'vulnerable ' group who've been asked to work from home if possible. My boss had a very kind, but firm conversation with me on Friday and informed me that I could not to to work (in a school) until guidance changes. As she said, we want the entire staff to be for and ready to return once this is over and for that to happen, all our vulnerable staff have to be protected, so we will be working from home for the foreseeable future. I also want to be around for next year's Mother's Day and beyond. In order to make that more likely, I need to be sensible Now. So , dh and I are keeping indoors as much as possible, making do with what we can get on the Tesco deliveries and if we need anything else urgently, dh will go as he is able to walk more quickly and hopefully, the odd loaf of bread will be available in the local shop. We will not be having family gatherings - Skype will have to do. After the press conference tonight, I would not be surprised if much more stringent rules are brought in to prevent the selfishness I've seen reported and heard about on here.

No, I simply prefer to believe my DC, 2 of whom are doctors in a CV-19 unit. They tell me I can go out to walk with a friend and if we stay 2m apart (we do) then that is fine.

although the virus lives for up to 72 hours on hard surfaces, ie wood, metal, hard plastic, it's doesn't survive for long on paper and card or cloth

Cardboard:
Scientists discovered the virus is detectable for up to three hours in aerosols, up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to two to three days on plastic and stainless steel.

bellalou1234 · 22/03/2020 21:29

Mental health is extremely important as well. Please op dont imply it's not and people are using it to justify their actions

PurpleDaisies · 22/03/2020 21:35

If anyone else has had a stroppy pm from @Maelil, you’re not alone.

Soontobe60 · 22/03/2020 21:45

I did!

PurpleDaisies · 22/03/2020 21:46

Aw, I thought I was special.
Never mind.

nicenewdusters · 22/03/2020 21:48

Maelil I don't believe you.

Those are guidelines. If your dc really are working in those positions, I don't believe they'd say yeah, meet up with people you don't live with and don't have to interact with, just stay 2 metres apart. I'm sure they'd be saying don't take extra risks. What if your walking friend slips or becomes ill. CPR from 2 metres, carry her back with a broken ankle on the spare donkey you'll have with you?

If your story is true then the apple hasn't fallen very far from the tree. I'm sure in an ideal world two people could keep exactly 2m apart, never cough or sneeze, never touch the same surface. But that's not real life. Plus, what if it's two people 2m apart x 10 people or 50 people. That's a gathering, and it's not essential. Being pedantic won't save your life or anybody elses.

YourVagesty · 22/03/2020 21:49

Same here. DH and I were digging out our veg patch as the weather was so nice and there were three extra cars outside next door, and lots of noise and laughter from the garden. Angry

nicenewdusters · 22/03/2020 21:50

And if you pm me I'll report you. Anything to say, say it on these boards. Coward.

Soontobe60 · 22/03/2020 22:02

@Maelil

I don't believe you either. If, as you say, your dc is a doctor in a Covid unit, then your dc must have a death wish on you taking you out for a nice walk! Medics working with Covid patients are the highest risk people on the planet at the moment.
This is far too serious to make things up about.

Maelil · 22/03/2020 22:40

Nope, not lying, why would I? Is that what goes on here?
If you make statements you have to be able to give evidence to back them up. Just dishing out abuse to those who disagree doesn’t make you right. Facts and evidence, that’s how science works.

nicenewdusters · 22/03/2020 23:21

Look at #Covidiots. Doctors holding up cards saying we're staying at work for you, stay at home for us.

Stay.At.Home. That's all the "evidence" I need. Haven't seen one yet saying "please go on an unnecessary walk with a friend where you're bound to pass others".

renegadeoffunk · 22/03/2020 23:44

I've been told tonight that a friend in her 30s is in a critical condition in hospital with covid19.

She has 2 young children.

For fucks sake just stay at home!

HooverVacuum · 23/03/2020 01:33

This is all you need to know

  1. Scientists have no final or certain advice or answers. This is new virus. New information and data is emerging all the time. Just look at scientific information about incubation period and the extent to which it can be transmitted by surfaces or airborne. This is constantly changing.
  1. Lots of people are dying from this. including young people and healthy people. They are dying in horrible circumstances - makeshift hospital beds in emergency thrown up facilities and unable to say good bye to loved ones who can't visit.
  1. If you get it, you are likely to get pneumonia and have a high chance of having no treatment at all because the NHS is not as well equipt as say Germany. It will be overrun and like in Israeli (over 60s not being treated) decisions will be made to prioritise the young.

You have one life. If you want to gamble with your variable 2 m distancing, meeting up with your friends in your garden, seeing my mum is OK, then you go right ahead but please do realise and own the fact that
you are risking your own health and life and
you are risking the health and life of everyone you come into contact with and
you are inevitably adding to the future strain on the NHS.

Just try and be a bit less selfish. For once in your life. for a short period.

Soontobe60 · 23/03/2020 07:49

Maelil
I'd love to know which hospital your dc work in. I'd report them for giving dangerous advice out to people.
The scientific evidence is quite limited at the moment, it's still being gathered. What is clear is that the transmission of this disease is rampant. You're far more likely to pass this on than flu.
Having just listened to the news this morning, it has been made very clear that the scenes of this weekend of masses of people going out for fresh air will not be tolerated any more.
Stay At Home!

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/03/2020 08:45

Facts and evidence, that’s how science works.

That’s as maybe but we have no idea who you actually are. Science is backed up by peer reviewed papers.
I’m not saying that you are lying but there is no way to tell if you are who you say you are.

ellanwood · 23/03/2020 15:27

For clarity:
Gov.uk's advice, for people from households who show no symptoms or have fully recovered updated today 23rd March 2020 says this:

You can also go for a walk or exercise outdoors if you stay more than 2 metres from others.

A couple of days ago they were recommending we get outside for walks and cycle rides. Now they are just saying we can if we want to.

The people who absolutely under no circumstances should leave the house are people who show symptoms or who live with a symptomatic person. People who fall into vulnerable categories (elderly and anyone with a co-morbidity) are told to exercise extreme precaution, which I think should be an unambiguous 'stay home.'

But people with no symptoms, on the government's own website are told they can if they keep 2m apart.

I'm not saying this is right or wrong, but we shouldn't bully and harangue people for following gov health and safety guidelines.

AllDruggedUpWithNowhereToGo · 23/03/2020 17:33

Would someone like to explain to my estate that letting children out to play (there is currently about 8 of them in my road, but it was more an hour ago) is also bloody dangerous. Apparently it doesn’t affect children!🙄

Stressybetty · 23/03/2020 17:37

My DH is going potty with it all, we live opposite a takeaway and corner shop and he spends most of the day watching out of the window and commenting on lack of social distancing etc. Today someone walked past and spat outside of the neighbours house, he ran out and told them off which has prompted next door gobby neighbour to wade in and the takeaway owner and passer by 😳 At least the takeaway has now put up signs and is restricting the number of people in the place as a result. Am supposed to be working from home and hiding upstairs

Mothership4two · 23/03/2020 17:39

Are you sure they weren't in the garden keeping a distance from each other OP? We went round to MIL but sat in garden a long way apart. They might be noisy because they are having to raise their voices.

BackBoiler · 23/03/2020 17:41

HOSEPIPE

Giraffey1 · 23/03/2020 17:43

We are heading for lockdown because people can’t follow simple rules. Don’t go out unless you NEED to, keep your distance if you do but otherwise, stay at home. It’s not rocket science.
