Ffs neighbours are having a garden party

WTAF!?
Just popped out to hang my washing. My dc joined me for a run around.
Lots of noise coming from the neighbours garden (next door but one). Including a continuous cough.
They’ve got four extra cars parked on their drive.
What’s wrong with people?
Why would people do this?

It’s on the bbc website @SunshineCake

GoldenKirst · 22/03/2020 17:01

People on the street behind me were letting off fireworks this afternoon & having a good old get together 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ people are using it as an 'extended Easter holiday'. Not to mention their 90 something year old grandmother in the house behind!

I walk my dog at the same times in the morning and evening everyday. I normally bump into 1-2 others but most of the time no one. This morning EVERYONE was out walking, driving places, visiting family. I couldn't believe it and couldn't wait to get back home. Dreading going out later with the dog again 😩

YgritteSnow · 22/03/2020 17:04

Total strangers are allowed to walk past each other at two metres but not two friends keeping at the exact same space

But you'll be past the stranger in seconds won't you? Not spending a prolonged period walking alongside them.

@SunshineCake our local authority.

littlejalapeno · 22/03/2020 17:10

Yes passing by a stranger quickly has a low contagion risk. Walking with someone for a sustained time increases the risk of passing the virus along. In Italy they say 2m is not enough and it should be 4.5m distance.

LakieLady · 22/03/2020 17:14

Last night my neighbours on one side were having a family gathering of at least 10 people which included all piling into their hot tub.

Eeeww, hot tubs are germ soup. Unless you crank the temp up at least 100c and boil yourself for at least 20 mins, you're bound to catch something.

Dashel · 22/03/2020 17:15

I want to help with this pandemic and do everything I can to get this over and done with as soon as possible.

I can’t believe that not everyone feels the same. No one locally needs help from me so the best I can do is to stay at home. I think that this isn’t a bad thing tO do, I have spring cleaned, washed the car and done some chores. FFS no thanks going out and about or partying for a few weeks isn’t going to kill anyone but passing on germs will.

Stop being selfish

Iamamoleinthegarden · 22/03/2020 17:20

We are all fucked. How many weeks are we behind Italy now?

Elderly at risk folks around us are out all of the time backwards and forwards not a care in the world.

Darwin.

mrsBtheparker · 22/03/2020 17:24

Do you have nothing green to burn, near the border of your properties, the sort that makes a terrible amount of smoke?

Iamamoleinthegarden · 22/03/2020 17:24

4m is what I use. The danger is from someone sneezing or coughing the virus projectiles at you. Always wear gloves. Take great care entering your house in taking off gloves, clothing, washing your hands and spraying the door handles. We leave stuff in the hot porch. It doesn’t like the heat.

Maelil · 22/03/2020 17:30

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about what social distancing means.
It is perfectly ok to go out for a walk with someone else IF you remain 2m apart. Likewise tea/coffee outside 2m apart.
Mustbetimeforachange is doing nothing wrong. The virus is spread by surface contamination ( hence the need for frequent hand washing) or large droplet spray (sneezing/coughing) not by aerosol.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 22/03/2020 17:31

My husband took my DSC to stay elsewhere for the weekend as I am self
Isolating.

They were due out for lunch today but because it's closed, they have the whole family over for dinner. Everything from grandparents to babies squashed in a tiny house.

And guess what, they have to come back again next weekend

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 22/03/2020 17:32

And it's because these particular group of people are stupid. They don't watch the news as it's boring and don't want to hear about CV

nicenewdusters · 22/03/2020 17:37

I'll tell you what's detrimental to my mental health. Having yet another argument with my 13 year old son. He thinks I'm so mean that I won't let him meet up with his two friends locally. "But it's the last time they'll be doing it!" "Oh, well I'm sure the virus knows that, it'll take the afternoon off." I know the parents, one's a fucking midwife!

I said to him you leave this house I'll lock you out, and you can go and stay with your dad. I would have done this.

I feel utterly heartbroken today. People I know that haven't been for a walk in years, all claiming it as a human right now. I'd brand the fuckers with a mark on their cheek. As for the morons in parks, cafes, partying etc, I so wish the army and police were on the streets.

The same fuckers will be whingeing and shouting from the roof tops when their relative or friend is dying alone in a corridor. They'll be saying about what "they" should of done. No, "they" are "you", and you should have stayed in your house.

Mumthedogsbeensick · 22/03/2020 17:37

Same here - older couple in their early seventies with all three of their children and 6 grandchildren of various ages having a fucking bbq and splashing around in the pissing hot tub. Absolute dickheads.

nicenewdusters · 22/03/2020 17:43

Maelil You are the problem! There isn't any misunderstanding among right thinking, responsible citizens. What there is is people like you trying to imagine how they can interpret them, to enable them to still meet with a friend for a coffee. Why would you take the risk?

Nearly 800 people died in Italy yesterday (not including the ones who died in care homes or in their own home). Why does helping to prevent something like this not over ride your need for a fucking tea or coffee with a friend?

LakieLady · 22/03/2020 17:46

As long as it is only "against guidelines" rather than against the law, people will do what they want

And, as "what they want" will invariably trump whatever is in the best interests of the rest of society, lockdown and legislation is inevitable imo. The government would do better to do it now, and prevent some C-19 transmission than do it in 2 weeks time when the number of cases will be into 6 figures, and deaths spiralling like mad.

Carbosug · 22/03/2020 17:49

Some people are going to have a lot on their conscience when this is all over. And if their role in spreading the disease finally sinks through their skulls I wonder how their precious mental health will cope with that.

Obviously people have to find coping strategies for all of this, but many are doing so without carelessly endangering others.

nicenewdusters · 22/03/2020 17:54

Yesterday I signed the petition calling for a lockdown now. What else can we do? Can we email our MPs and point them to the dozens of MN threads demonstrating how the British Public are playing fast and lose with other people's lives? There must be some pressure we can bring to this?

YgritteSnow · 22/03/2020 17:58

I want a lockdown. It's the only way now because of the selfish stupidity of people like those on this thread that hear the rules and then do everything they can to bend them to their own personal circumstances. Like teenagers who will try anything to adjust the rules to get their own way. You should be embarrassed at how self absorbed you are.

nicenewdusters · 22/03/2020 18:06

Just been reading about Johnson's performance at the latest Briefing on another thread. Looks like there's no prospect of a lockdown. Not sure I can bear to watch the actual briefing, may break the TV!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/03/2020 18:11

Maybe hes hopeful that people will listen to guidelines and not think nahhh doesnt apply. However doesnt seem to be happening...

LakieLady · 22/03/2020 18:12

That's what he said today, @nicenewdusters, but not so long ago he wasn't going to close schools, so who knows.

He might as well write on the wind and fast-flowing water for all that you can rely on what he says will happen.

MaMisled · 22/03/2020 18:13

Mine are having a bbq! I too, hear a continous cough! At least 10 people! Idiots! Ive been trying to sleep before a 12 hr night shift looking after 45 elderly folk in a nursing home. Impossible with the noise! Bastards.

Cocoandclive27 · 22/03/2020 18:19

People still need to go shopping. Supermarkets are likely going to be hot beds for the virus to be carried due to the volume of people and close contact, but it's essential so we'll do it.

I genuinely don't see how being outside for a walk in open air and keeping apart from a friend is any worse than that. For mental health it could be very essential. Are people really going to cut themselves off entirely from friends and family but still run the gauntlet every time they go shopping? Just use your common sense!

Yes a garden party is bloody ridiculous, it's a gathering of several people. Going for a rural dog walk and keeping a safe distance....surely that's low risk.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 22/03/2020 18:23

I was really surprised when a usually sensible family member posted photos earlier of a Baby Shower for a friend . I do not judge as a rule but I was and am pretty shocked.
